If we have I've forgotten, but as I understand/see it he's more than announcer. He gives off more "color" (random facts about the skaters, their coaches, etc) than the two "experts".they all "call"/"announce" the event.

that's what I mean by confirmation. Tracy is not the "expert" in singles skating. she's commentated it a lot through the years but she has always deferred to her singles or pairs experienced co-commentator.
I don't like Tracy's style, anyway, because it is odd and annoying... Terry went to school for this stuff, so he's going to sound normal compared to any "expert" he's with. But even he sounds annoyed at being "ignored"
Tracey Wilson is probably the least annoying of all of the commentators. She is very knowledgeable and positive. She does not over commentate

I agree with Chris Howarth. Once she gets her jumps clean, Imai's program will be really good.

Not feeling Haruka's program. She needs more sophistication and control to pull off that music.

I understand your reasoning. I'm just old enough to remember when there was no such thing as "color" commentators. They were originally brought in to football games to give a little more "color" or description than the announcer could give.
When Dick Button was brought in in the '60s it was to give more color to the play-by-play. In skating the color commentators are really needed because the announcer doesn't know anything about the sport. If I can, I will try to find some history on the term.

While I think Haruka Imai has a lot of promise, I'm pretty surprised that she was selected for GP events by JSF over Fumie Suguri - especially when you consider that Haruka's performances last year were on par with those of Fumie's. Not to mention that Fumie (7th) finished ahead of Haruka (12th) at nationals.
