Men Free Skating - 2013 Trophée Eric Bompard

I am happy for Jason! :yay:

:agree:

Fun trivia question. When was the last time a U.S. man medaled in his debut GP season (under the current format, est. 1995)

Quick research shows....Timothy Goebel and Matt Savoie (another artist on ice) both in 1999. It's been a while!!

Woah, the cheers were loud for Jason! :) He looks thrilled!

Chan was good. :)

Obviously he wasn't great then so there is room for improvement but at this point I am not sure if can really improve the tes unless he adds another triple axel or quad. He is still very vulnerable and maybe peaked? But he is getting more consistent - still he needs a tech coach including for jumps (axel, lutz and ensure he throws in that salchow after the half loop as well as spins). He deserved to win here clearly imho. I wonder if sky fly would agree? Oh never mind :)

Yuzuru needs to go for 2 quad toes instead of a quad salcow and toe, He just isn't consistent with that jump enough just yet. I don't even know why Orser isn't making him do two quad toes instead...

Hmm.

Cannot he change the 3T after his first quad into something more difficult here?

That was... a champions performance from Chan. I still don't feel the movement he does is authentic, that sometimes he doesn't give the movements the breath they needs, and that his shoulders are still too high in some parts.... but otherwise, he's clearly the winner, and by a wide margin.

I appreciate and agree but he is trying and I find him far more authentic than Brian Boitano or a lot of the princessy skates from the ladies. he is not an emoter like Toller Cranston or John Curry. Then again he is far more genuine and authentic artistically than Evan. But I doubt he can be this consistent - Yuna, V and T and D and W are the few truly consistent skaters. I hope he didn't blow it on TEB. But wow.

Sky fly will call it inflation.....and fraud...

omg. omg. You guys know? Chan skated clean both SP and LP!

Not only that, but every judge awarded him positive GOEs on all of his elements in the SP and LP. Not a single negative GOE or even a 0. Wow!

Phenomenal skate by Patrick. If he skates like that in Sochi he won't have to worry about improvement, as I can't see anyone, even Yuzuru, keeping pace with him.

I was impressed at the way Yuzuru righted his ship after a shaky start. And Jason Brown was wonderful - that performance was a joy to behold.

It allows him to backload his combinations. He can make his two triple axel jumping passes into combinations and take advantage of that jump's GOE scaling. He must be consistent in practice with the quad salchow for them to go ahead with such an ambitious jump layout.

yep , 4T wont make that much difference same quality with his jumps
his 4S is always been inconsistent, almost Fernandez like.

Orser needs to dump telling them to do 4S
and they run our of air at the end of their LPs :disapp:

I so badly want Yuzu to skate clean
and beat Chan, I don't want Chan anywhere near that Olympic Gold

Exactly. He still got 87+ TES despite completely missing the 4S attempt.

His change-foot camel is a planned level 3.
It might be planned but if he wants to beat Dai, Fernandez, Yan and Hanyu he better figure out how to get it to a level 4! I don't think he is really arrogant but I don't super like his personality but at least he is who he is. You just know a tonne of them and you can see ie Gracie's slip up are putting on their PR faces. Truly as much as we love Michelle Kwan her pretty princess routine I just skate for myself and thank my family and the great US of A is kind of okay whatever. But to hear Joubert, Weir and others talk - that is real. On a side note I was impressed Brown held up - wonderful pcs. Chan is finally get the pcs he deserves too - I know there are many haters but his quality of skating is really phenomenal and compared to say Kostner and the ladies his skating is far more distinguishable. I am sure I will get slammed but those edges annd stroking and transitions...it makes the performance really hard too.

I cannot stand Chan but his skating is exquisite. Much of the choreography is the same in both programs. I guess that is what he feels most comfortable with.

Actually you don't need to like him as a person....
The choreo is far from the same in the two programs.

The programs have grown exponentially since they were choreographed and Chan has developed along with them.

I saw him live at Thornhill and skate canada this season and the program growth is amazing.

Well, way to set the bar so low, by comparing him to Evan  I do agree that he is trying, however, with his level of talent, I still need more.

Having it a level four gives him nothing more than additional .4 points, though.

Patrick Chan -Deep and smooth edges. Effortless skating throughout featuring changes of direction and connecting steps performed with total ease. The way the program flowed from start to finish was absolutely incredible. His upper body movement was composed and refined.

The program could have used some more highlights and variety, however.

Surely a new world record.
.

Great Ziggy.... Good decision not to claw your eyes out....so you could now SEE Chan's FS.

I like Yuzu. But yeah he needs to pick jumps wisely. Thank you also for clarifying your position on Chan. In case there was any question we understand your positon on Chan and conicidentally, and I am sure it is a fluke, Canadian skaters. :) :) :) !!!!
