2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

Thank you. I've always found Japanese folks are some of the nicest people around. The worlds should be interesting! (though I am not sure if I'll bother to watch it)

So you just finished "bothering" with one of the most biased skating events in history,
And your beef is with Japanese people,

Over an article written by a person called Jack Gallagher ?

A real Gem you are ;)

It's not just Yuna I am upset about. Other girls were cheated as well. Look how Ashley finished behind Julia who fell twice and who had a botched landing on the loop. Ashley wasn't perfect but she didn't fall twice or make a boo boo on the loop. Also Carolina should have finished higher that Adelina. Gracie was also better than Adelina in the fs. Li Zhijun was underscored in the sp and the fs as well as Kanako, Meite, Akiko and Mao compared to Julia who fell twice and who made a mistake on the loop.

Are you ********? Why do you keep pushing Gracie. She is nowhere near Adelina's level.

Adelina won, she deserved it and she'll be the Olympic Champion forever. :D

The Korean Olympic Committee has protested the results & the IOC are waiting for the official letter to be filed. This might be a vehicle to scrutinize the shady judging in our beautiful sport at these Olympics & make changes, including anonymous judging . I feel for Adelina - she skated lights out - but her scores were ridiculous.
Too bad the Canadians didn't have the courage to protest the ice dance results -- but you never know what L'Euipe magazine will dig up :slink:

While your post is unsettling, I do think Adelina competed better than Gracie Gold here

You are behind on the news cycle. The KOC letter was rejected by ISU.

Yes, Their official stance was that they only investigate claims that were filed within 30 minutes after the event,

I can't tell you on how many levels i think that's lame

In short, the IOC would never have enough balls to take a Gold medal away from a Russian in Russia,

And with event protocols under their belt the ISU would have never really needed to bother the IOC with this

Look at the skating on between the elemts. In fact. Just look at the first minutes of the programs and you get a good idea of the disparity on difficulty and transitions in the programs.

6+ crossovers and gliding with cross strokes into a combo vs half that amount and choreo/transitions directly I to it.

Mohawk and a step into a huge telegraphed triple flip or Mohawk Choktaw Counter straight into a big Triple Flip.

Sotnikovas skating was more difficult as well. Not just her spins or jump layout. Yuna's program looks junior level by comparison (structurally speaking) and that's what reputation judging allows her to do. Lesser skaters would not break 8s if they skates Yuna's programs as she delivered them for SS TR CH or Perf/Exec.

But they were elegant nuanced crossovers! ;)

As lovely as Yuna is, her program was too watered down, probably due to injuries, not competing for most of the season and not having a COP Ho like Orser to construct point hoarding programs like she had in Vancouver. The program looked very pre-COP with the jumps in the first half and the majority of choreo in the second half.

If one of the Russians had skated Yuna's program and Yuna skated the Russian's, the dialog about who's program was more difficult would be totally different.

Really? Gracie Gold defeated Adelina at 2012 Junior Worlds and 2013 Worlds. 2012 Cup of Russia, off the top of my head. Adelina beat Gracie here. Sure, but Gracie has every ability to beat Adelina in the future.

Revisionist history. Once again. The next thing they're going to insist that Adelina beat Yuna before. :disapp: At least with Julia, it would've been easier to insist that -- they've never faced off until now.

Adelina skated her absolute best here, which was wonderful, but it doesn't change the fact that Gracie has been able to outskate Adelina many times before and Adelina hasn't won any international competition as a senior until this Olympics.

That is some feat, actually. I can't think of any Olympic champion whose overall score jumped by at least 50 points during the Olympic season alone, or who hasn't won any championship medals before. At least Tara won the worlds before.

Boston worlds is coming,

It's figure skating,

They'll probably just need to go clean ;)

Eladola, assuming that your reply referred to Gracie & Polina, the 2014 Worlds are in Saitama, Japan. No home cooking for US women there.

I'm an American and much as I'd love to see Gracie or Polina on the podium, I'd rather see them lose fair and square than win because of any sort of favoritism or cheating. Same for any of the winners.

Hi, new poster here (I lurked too much and GS forced me to get an account, so here I am . . . ). My gut feeling is that we're seeing Adelina's peak. She was way overscored, everyone knows she was overscored (this is aside from the medal placement--not going to get into that), so it's going to be a different game at Worlds. I think once Kostner, Yuna and Mao stop doing worlds, Gracie Gold will step right up to the podium at some level or another. She has the poise, the skills and the coach to do it. Edmonds is on her way as well--but she's very young and things happen to young skaters--hormones, injuries. I think Yulia, not Adelina, will be the real competition. I think, also, there will be a resurgence of the Japanese. But Gold will be there--I'm a casual skating fan, but I've been watching since Dorothy Hamill won gold, so one picks up a few things. As for Ashley--I love her spunk, but her skating lacks that "it" factor of the very best--the line, the polish, the beautiful edges. In some ways, it's not fair to Wagner, but looking "pretty" on ice matters. It's form, not just function. I don't see Wagner radically changing her skating at 22.

I was talking about 2016 Worlds in Boston,

By then for sure Gracie and or Polina (Ashley?) will be ripe for Worlds domination

Gracie is going to be as good as Yuna. I see it. She has the best jump and she has beautiful spins and a nice spiral. Polina could be a force as well. She has two triple triples. She moves like Oksana Baiul and she's Russian. :p

Gracie is much more talented than any Russian girl. She's graceful and beautiful. Frank will teach her well. She could be as dominant as Michelle.

Gracie also has a great b*tchface.

Gracie is the American who could become the fearless, unbeatable diva Ashley Wagner wishes she was. She just needs Adelina to teach her how to land her Flips and how to do 3-3Loop combinations.
