Oh please, if it was any other country where such results were OVERWHELMINGLY shock and surprise, anger and controversy, you can bet that even if the country wasn't going to file a protest, they will file a protest when backed up by many people who disagree.

If it was the US, you can bet your *** that they would file a complaint.
And the competition was only "electrified" by the grossly uneducated, unclassy hordes of Russians.

Are you watching the gala now--the competition is over, and they're STILL yelling RUSIYA. How disgusting. It's the freaking GALA for goodness sake.
 
As a skating fan I should be sad at this but I am actually laughing at the sports continuing to sink itself to the point of oblivion. After 2-3 years of Chan farces this is exactly what the sport deserves. Now everyone but a die hard figure skating fan thinks the sport is a farce, fixed, and medals are bought and not won on the ice. Which of course they would be right on.

I don't want to take away from the energy and the excitement that Sotnikova generated because it was a wonderful part of a fantastic performance but if we are REALLY going to play by the rules and evaluate fairly, there needs to be proper recognition and evaluation for all the components of the final score.

The Sotnikova camp argues that she electrified the crowd and was exciting with more difficulty to boot. YES, technically this is true... but we fail to recognize where the judging failed are the relative (lack of) difference in the 5 component marks between Kim, Kostner and Sotnikova was unjustified and the lower score for grade of execution of many of the elements that all favored Sotnikova were also unreasonable.

Of the 5 categories that compose the PCS (Skating skills, Transitions, Performance/Execution, Interpretation, Choreography): alluding historically to past completions and evaluation and speaking more specifically within the confines of the actual performances in question, Kim and Kostner were superior on Skating skills, Transitions, Interpretation and Choreography with a slight nod to Performance to Sotnikova for the energy and vigor of her performance as fueled by the partisan crowd.

Additionally, the GOEs are incomprehensible... not to mention that the right technical calls were simply NOT made. Underroations aside, the triple Lutz on the very first combination was on the wrong edge which should have warranted an automatic deduction on GOE. Moreover, Sotnikova really did not do any better in terms of her jumping elements than Kim overall, arguably worse considering her more visible error and her lack of control, and this was the opposite of the actual marks given.

They probably need to determine some stricter rules on crowd behavior. Sports fans are generally speaking rude/rowdy at events and at football or basketball games will scream to trip up the opposing team, but it seems like they need to adopt some Wimbledon-esque rules here.

Your sense is not so common when the overwhelming majority of media, fans, experts express the opposite view. It is stupid to label yourself to have common sense. Based on what? Your God? I know you will dismiss those petitions. They are from South Korea. They do not count just like those African Americans' votes did not need to get counted because the did not have 'common sense' in your good old days. Mind you who is in the White House? Does he count based on your common sense?

I don't think there is much outrage at all in the US. There is a balance of those who think Yuna should have won and those who believe Adelina did enough to win. It's definitely not an "overwhelming majority" unless you are polling only those who post on the conspiracy thread.
