2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

The clip showed Sotnikova is a 18 year old junior skater. It shouldn't be that hard to surpass her. Not funny at all with my statement to be 100% honest.

Then it shouldn't be so hard to answer the question - a real answer, not some ambiguously half-covered nonsense. Who should have been ahead of Sotnikova to push her down to 4th?

Asada! In the SP, she should've gotten Level 4 steps, had her 3F< overlooked, and gotten her PCS pushed up to 35. Then, in the LP, she should've gotten 75 PCS and had her 3F-3Lo and 2A-3T credited. Then, Sotnikova's PCS gets dropped by 4 and 8 in the SP and LP respectively. And that's how Mao gets the bronze!

I kid, I kid. But Sotnikova behind Gracie Gold is just . For a moment there, I was wondering if he'd actually swallow his hate and say Mao deserved bronze.

Gold, so **** off or something.

:rolleye:
Yeah, obviously, a girl who's just as "junior" as Sotnikova but had a flawed SP and a fall in the LP.
You could at least try to make your hate because someone beat your queen a little less obvious.

I don't think I would have wanted Mao to be the one getting the outcries now. And you know who would be getting the hate now had she touched Yuna in the LP... ;)

Edit:

YES! That was what I thought like too, the good old bashers clincing to Mao now to help them bash Sotnikova. Going for Gold though was funnier, I have to admit

Oh, that's true. But at least it obviously makes a pretty pitiful human being you have to hate a skater

 Bravo, bro! I am not a particular fan of any skater, maybe that's a relief. Watching so many people spend time hating some skaters who have nothing to to with their lives, I find myself so lucky.

I didn't know Adelina before Olympic, so I had no bias towards her. I did know Kim and remembered rooting for her in 2010. Frankly, I think Kim's performance this year beautiful but not lively as she was 4 years ago. That's why I think it's okay with the placement. Sometimes people have different tastes and I think it's fine. But to hate someone just because they achieve something you don't want them to is kind of exhausting, isn't it? Some people might think the scoring is unfair, but to hate the athletes because they might get benefits from the system, despite all their hard work, is a bit immature, I think.

Seeing someone put Gold 3rd was truly unexpected. I wouldn't even have expected sky_fly in his/her Adelina bashing days to do it. I mean I would still put Sotnikova behind Kostner and Kim but this is just too much for me.

It's funny since I actually agree Sotnikova should have been 3rd. But it's partly always subjective and not the first time a lot of people disagree with the scoring. And yes, the worst is if people let it out on the skater. It's okay not to like her skating or disagree with her scoring, but there's no reason to hate Sotnikova herself.

And it uncovers what could have been a real argument as pure bias! a win/win situation  (for the others, of course)

Now that's :rofl:worthy. Behind whom should she have been 4th overall?

I don't think that there is any doubt that considering what happened, Adelina belonged on the podium. I still see her with the bronze based upon her unattributed flutz and UR along with the step out on the last combo. I do think she had the poorest choreography and interpretation of the final nine skaters. Her general skating technique while solid (speed, edges etc.), was nothing to write home about either This should have been reflected in the PCS's but wasn't. Instead her PCS was inflated.

Still, had Gracie not fallen, she should have been in the conversation for bronze. While not the artist Yuna or Carolina is, Gracie certainly did a better job with her choreography and interpretation than Adelina (and her skating was on par). She would have landed the same number of triples on the technical side. I won't even hazard a guess what would have happened had Mao skated a half way decent SP (in other words, a even with fall on the triple axle and the rest of her jumps and elements completed properly). She should have beaten Adelina if that had happened, no doubt. Had Julia skated cleanly on her FS, she might have been in the conversation too.

Still, what happened in Sochi in the Ladies' Event was terrible. If this wasn't a conspiracy, then it was just shoddy officiating across the board. Russia should be ashamed, one way or another. It's a pity when something like this happens because nobody really wins.

Russian fans are ashamed and disappointed, too, they really are, especially those who don’t just watch figure skating once in four years. They point out in their forums that Adelina got inflated marks, as well as Plushenko, Ilyinykh / Katsalapov, with Asada, Kim, Kostner underscored. I would personally add Yulia Lipnitskaya (overscored, she should have been placed 9-10), Polina Edmunds (underscored, must be much higher, as Yulia with her artistry, skating skills and the quality of jumps especially the defective double axel is nowhere near Polina). Conclusion: Sotnikova’s victory would have been much more appreciated if there hadn’t been such a great gap in scores between her and Kim. So there was a fix anyway.

There was another fix in the team event with Plushenko’s withdrawal from the individuals. The original plan was to skate in the team event, then withdraw and let Kovtun (the 2014 Nationals champion) compete in the individuals. That was against the rules but nobody cared, bc the Olympic gold was at stake. What happened is that Plushenko spoke openly about this plan after his disastrous failure at the Nationals so no surprises the plan became known to the Olympic officials who made it clear that should this happen, the Russian athletes would be disqualified. That’s why Plushenko staged a show of getting injured during the warm-up. At the same time, he was planning to skate in numerous shows shortly after the games, in March and April. There was a public outrage and a possibility of being stripped off the team gold, so he cancelled the shows. All this looked very ugly and it still stinks.

The major problem is that cheating is the normal way of life in Russia – kids cheat during school tests, university students pay their teachers to get better scores (of course not everywhere), if you violate the traffic rules you can pay the officer and get away with it – just a few examples. I know what I’m talking about – lived in Russia for 25 years before leaving it for good. So sorry for what happened in the Olympic figure skating.

Being fourth in the SP behind Kwan, Slute and Sasha was a very long shot for a medal. If anything, in SLC, the judges were less likely to prop up the home team because of the pairs scandal.

Oh please, everyone knew it was 95% likely she would outskate Cohen in the LP.

Plushenko is going to have surgery next month, and now people are talking like he faked it. He might never walk normally again, and people talk about him like he's a traitor. I feel bad for him.

I think my scores would have been something like this:

Short program:

Kim 78
Kostner 76
Sotnikova 70
Asada 60

Long program:

Asada 152
Kim 150
Kostner 150
Sotnikova 140

So the final results would have been:

1. Kim
2. Kostner (I previously had her first overall but as others were telling me I overscored her I rewatched her performances and saw I was indeed a bit generous in part due to being so excited to see Kostner finally do a clean 10 triple competition)
3. Asada
4. Sotnikova

Thank you :) this article is very good, you cand really see that Adelina's first combination wasn't only "flutzed" but also underrotated. And there are still people who say that she won it fair ? have this people watched the program ? are they blind ???
When you don't know figure skating and its rules please don't give your opinion everywhere and please stop calling Yuna's fans crazy or paranoiac
