Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Woke up and saw many, many posts to read! Glad to know from the activity on this thread that there is no off season for us Yuzuru fans!

Kalina, thanks for clarifying the details of the ANA-Yuzuru affiliation. (Props also to ANA for their foresight in signing up Yuzuru.) I watched a documentary on Patrick Chan where Patrick's father said that $160,000/year is a low estimate of the yearly expenses of a top-flight skater. Mind you Patrick has to hold fundraising dinners among the Chinese Canadian community to help out with the expenses, so it is good to know Yuzuru can compete without financial worries.

SuzyQ, I also love the Italian commentary on Yuzuru's performances and always look out for the same in YouTube. Thanks for pointing out where to get the translation. :)

On YouTube, I also found this video of the Spanish (TDP) commentary which the uploader apparently recorded from his television, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dnxb7vIrJI. The Spanish commentators were also admiring of Yuzuru exclaiming "Si senor!" as he went into his final spin. But what's really amusing were the comments of the uploader I presume in the background. Even though he was Javier's compatriot, he was obviously rooting for Yuzuru. He sounded so ecstatic at Yuzuru's jumps and kept saying Yuzuru's name like a benediction. BTW he is also the same guy who uploaded a fan video of the last part of Yuzuru's iconic 2012 Worlds R & J1 performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmmwTuliJTw. Obviously a Yuzuru fan.

Now I am waiting for YouTube uploads of the NBC and CBC commentary of Yuzuru's 2014 Worlds SP and LP as the videos in their website are not available for viewing here in Korea. I am particularly interested in the CBC commentary because I want to know whether Tracy Wilson (I saw she was there in Saitama) also took part as she did in last year's Worlds. If anyone in the Yuzuru fandom can help out in that, pretty please and thanks in advance. :)

Hola, bienvenida :)

yahh, it's fun. it's nickname but really my name :) is it really yourname?

Actually I have a very long name ("Maria Victoria" is just part). People find one to two syllable names easier to say, e.g., "Yuzu" for "Yuzuru," so I have been called "Vicky." :)

actually, you don't need to worry about his income.
According to the "Money's person" which broadcast after Sochi, they said his income is about 600 million yen/year (6 million dollars, I wonder if it has included bonus money, selling book which reach 100000 copies after Sochi, selling discs, tv show, magazine....), while Mao Asada is about 300 million.
They will pay him about 10 million yen per Ice Show, 100 million yen for a CM...

There's no way he's making more than Mao with all her CM's... All of the prices for shows and CM are definitely over-estimates (esp CM).... I'll be happy if he gets half that. Also all proceeds from his book goes to the earthquake.

^So the above is probably what Simon Reed was referring to when he said after Yuzuru's gala performance that Yuzuru will have "untold riches" and that he (Simon) hopes that like Mao Asada Yuzuru will still keep his feet on the ground and not get above himself. I think right now it is only in Japan that figure skating is that financially rewarding.

We will never know exactly how much they're earn, but it's must be about million dollar

According the latest news this morning, two Sochi Olympic medalists Yuzu and Noriaki Kasai (the ski jump silver metal) are official invited to the “Garden party of spring” held by Japanese Emperor and Empress on April 17.

There are 2564 persons participated. The Emperor will talk to guests individual. It will be an incredible experience. And I am happy to see such honorable recognition from Japan royals.

I read somewhere that Mao is making something alike US$10MILLIONS

Edit.

Here, this may help, every year SportPro made a list of the hottest most markable sportmen /sportwomen in the world. Kim Yu-Na is the 44th with and earning of US$9MILLION per year. If we think that Mao is making something alike (even so Mao has not an olympic gold, etc) Yuzuru should be making a little less. A page I looked out put his Neth Worth in around US$2.2 MILLIONS}

I think at that time she is less famous than him so his income is more than her this year.
I am looking for his book "blue flame" by english language, does anyone know it ?

Pretty dumb but anyone know if this is for sale or just a fanmade thing???
Mamushkas
They are soo cute >"<
That might be one of the Russian matryoshka dolls that they had in the Japanese Olympic TV studio in Sochi. I assumed the TV companies made those for the skaters, but perhaps they simply bought them? I don't know.

^Yuzu and Mao are both earning a lot if we just look at the digits, unfortunately the fact is that they need to share their earnings with the JSF. Yuzu is still having a room for development in the advertising market as he did not involve too much before Sochi. But I don't think he'll do the same amount like Mao? Such as the photo collection... Heard Yuzu can get a lot of money if he poses for and publishes a photo collection, but it doesn't look like something that he'll do. Btw, Mao the lovely queen seems to have potential to maintain her earning even she gets retired in the future.
