Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Thanks for the info!

Things will get complicated as his popularity is rocketing... but I believe his parents (and himself) will take good care of it. And he's still under 20, so no commercials about automobile and alcohol
Since Kozuka is sponsor by Toyota I so hope Nissan sponsor him!!!!! Come on Carlos Ghosn get in there!!!!!

Thanks for the response everyone.

According to the tweet, Yuzuru grabbed Ryuichi by the waist, the two of them skated together for a while and then Yuzuru threw Ryuichi.
It might have been a pretend throw, but Ryichi apparently rotated a little

Another tweet. Yuzuru did a 4T-3A sequence.

The tall Ryuichi san!!! I'll pretend to believe it a real throw then
4T again... He dedicate so much even it's a show but not a competition. But did he look easy for that? If yes then I have no worries anymore.

according to the fan, it was a 'leisurely' 4T-3A...so that means less impact and stress.

actually, you don't need to worry about his income.
According to the "Money's person" which broadcast after Sochi, they said his income is about 600 million yen/year (6 million dollars, I wonder if it has included bonus money, selling book which reach 100000 copies after Sochi, selling discs, tv show, magazine....), while Mao Asada is about 300 million.
They will pay him about 10 million yen per Ice Show, 100 million yen for a CM...

Hi there
Thanks for your post....but....
I live in Japan and those figures are just not possible. Sorry.
You have too many zeros.
300 million yen is about 473billion dollars.
I think Yuzuru is actually priceless but neither him nor Mao are making the amounts of money you are claiming.

I think he is being reasonably well looked after by ANA and by making commercials for TV ( although he is on TV much less than Mao of Daisuke) ANA gave him and his family an all inclusive holiday to Hawaii and some other perks and well as the sponsorship.
They also gave him a pair of specially made earphones in a special case which was the the thing he looked happiest about .

I know he has said that in the previously that his family have struggled in the past to pay for his skating ( and that was one of the reasons he didn't ask his parents for a cell phone due to the financial burden of paying the monthly fees) but in the past two years he hasn't mentioned his finances at all.

I can't say with any real certainty, but having lived in Japan for a couple of decades now, I am not worried about Yuzuru's current financial state. The Japanese have a way of making sure that their national treasures are well taken care of. There is even a special title of "national living treasure" awarded to people in Japan.
Yuzuru is surly a candidate for this special award ( although most people who get it are pretty old!!!)

Sorry that this post has wandered off topic.... It's been a long day.

Hopefully will have a bit of time Over the weekend and will try to translate some of the links that have been posted.
(Have never felt that my ability to understand Japanese was worth much till I started translating some Yuzuru stuff to people who really love skating and are inspired / moved by this young man!)

Russian commentators love to mention that Mao is an idol in Japan and has a cult status(maybe a fellow from glorious Japan will correct this statement), comparing Mao's current popularity with Yuzuru's(which, according to them, is much less than hers).

Hello Yay
I live in Japan and although I am a Yuzuru fan right down to the marrow of my bones, Mao is still more popular here.
She is the darling of the nation and is sooooo popular it cannot be properly described in words.
The good news for Yuzuru fans is that he is quickly catching up!

^Well that's our Yuzuru. As Johnny Weir said in Sochi, Yuzuru makes the hardest of hard seem effortless, easy, hence I think the description of the fan of the 4T-3A as "leisurely."

Actually, 300 million yen is about 2.9 million US dollars, or $ 2.886.906 at the moment. 100 yen is close to 1 US dollar.
The easiest way to convert is to get rid of the last two numbers in yens, and that brings you pretty close to US dollars.

Thank you for this precision. I repost the only video that needs to translate :http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1kuzah_0331every_sport.

"Have never felt that my ability to understand Japanese was worth much till I started translating some Yuzuru stuff to people who really love skating and are inspired / moved by this young man!" It's a great feeling that we can feel. I do the same job for english people who wanted a translation about a french celebrity, or an interview etc ....... Even with my basic english, i'm glad to serve these people ;=)

I'm admittedly really bad with numbers but according to the currency converter I just used 300 million yen is about 2.9 million us dollars. so, no where near anything with a B up front

On behalf of us non-Japanese fans of Yuzuru, thank you Channah! We are lucky to have you with us. :)

Hello! I'm a new fan of Yuzuru Hanyu (became a fan some weeks before the Sochi Olympics). I read about him on a page in Facebook and when I searched him and videos of his programs, I was awed by his talent and humility! :D Since then I can't stop loving Yuzuru Hanyu! I've been checking this thread out for some time prior to joining, and I decided to join in so that I can discuss topics related to Yuzuru Hanyu with the people who also admire and love him! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu! :)

He had a calendar? I´m a bad fan

Video of practice for Nagoya festival... he is wearing all his medals haha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxDvn0pii78&feature=youtu.be

You are so quick. I was going to post the same video
It is already difficult for me to catch up the thread as it takes me time to read English

Anyway, Yuzuru said in the interview of the video,

"These are shows for me to thank all the supporters of various places in achieving the results this season.

The audience of Nagoya Festival at the arena are, you know, rather demanding, as Nagoya fans have an experienced eye (Laugh). I really want to respond to their expectations."

He is damn serious even for the shows as Nobunari commented :points:

But, he will attend the shows tomorrow and the day after tomorrow .....
Oh boy .....

Oh, by the way, Yuzuru will attend the Spring Garden Party held by the Emperor at the Akasaka Palace on 17th this month together with other medalists of Sochi :yay:

Are Yuzuru's parents involved in his skating activities too? I mean, do they have any say about his schedule given that he really needs time to rest after all that he has done this 2013-2014 season?
