Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Today news about Yuzuru´s parade and Tshirt http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1qipy5_140422-スッキリ_sport?start=159

Can someone translate please.

Thank you again toMii9000 (YH Forumatic) for a summary of what the video talks :

It is about Yuzu’s parade and the fundraising for it. The parade will cost ¥57000000. One of the staff for the parade explained that only the Olympics official sponsor corporations can sponsor the parade and the amount of money from those sponsors was not enough. So, they came up with the idea of T-shirt sales. The TV program reported how the T-shirts sold on the first day in Sendai and Tokyo. One lady came from Fukushima to buy the T-shirts. Some gentleman bought 4 T-shirts and donated \2000. A lady started to wait in front of the shop around 5:00 in the morning in Tokyo. The reporter said during the first 2 days 8900 T-shirts were sold out of 10000 they prepared. The people who are in charge of the parade did not expect the T-shirts to sell this well.

The last bit was about Dai, what he will do next season. What Dai said was that he will appear in some ice shows and take one year to think about what to do next. The narration said that he will not compete next season.

Cruzceleste, I put a summary of the video talking about Hanyu's t-shirt/parade.

The parade cost ¥57000000. An certain amount will be cover by an olympics offical sponsor but the amount was not enough, so they organized these sales, and so according to cruzceleste's information, they earned Y28800000. The sponsor may cover 57000000-28800000=28 200 000 JYN. SO for both parties, it was a very good operation ...

^ well, of course times change. nowadays everything is way more global and interconnected and the more you are exposed to different cultures and ideals, the more 'normal' they become. But it's also very much a matter of personal taste. As I have mentioned: I was kidding! I'm not crazy enough to suggest that there's actually something that must be universally liked by everybody. I've always had a thing for Japanese culture and people - my friends don't get that at all. Who cares? We all like different things. If it were any different, how boring would that be?
:agree: Also people are very open-minded nowadays. Human evolution takes a good turn in most parts of the world.

 He was probably crying for Javi, or maybe even Patrick (the curse lives on) lol

May be it’s better to say he was crying because of Yuzu!

Very little / no interaction between the two at the boards immediately after Yuzu’s FS, then Yuzu was alone when he discovered he was the OGM and the scene is absolutely epic “ I AM FIRST??”... he asked strangers.. most original and cutest OGM ever!

Thank you Yuzusan, I´ll ad your explination to the original link in the media thread. I never though doing a parade was so expensive.

Yah Y57000000 = 558 000 dollars. I think, it will be a big parade because a normal parade dosn't cost this amount. But for the best, and the future Legend skater, they need a big parade ^^

LOL. Well you know, some of us are male, and straight, and immune to how "pretty" a male skater is :-D

But we can still be fans, for other reasons than that...

The first time I noticed Hanyu (several years ago), it was because he was doing most of his choreography exactly in time with the music. This adds a layer of difficulty... that many skaters avoid by using abstract music, with a only a few "accent" points they need to "hit". Some don't bother at all, really.

Later, I admired his artistry, his skating skills, his unusual flexibility... his self-belief and big ambitions, that would seem arrogant if they weren't so playful and good-natured. He had the potential for future greatness, you didn't have to be Simon Reed to see that.

And later still, following the 2011 Tsunami - I was impressed by his personality, determination, his sense of purpose and responsibility... and finally, when we saw the fire and passion of his 2012 world's FS, I was as much a fan as my wife! And we started travelling abroad to competitions to see him skate. Well, not just to see Hanyu (I'm a fan of many other skaters too)... but mostly :-D

He always had so much potential... and it has been fantastic to watch him grow over the years, and realise a lot of that early potential (many skaters show similar early potential, but somehow never make it...).

And he still "skates to the music", the thing that made me first notice him... look at PW, or 2012 world's R&J (esp. towards the end), and how his movements match the beats/accents in the music...

PS thank you littlexflower, I just saw your post in the media thread, with a link to video of the Osaka show. My wife and I are SO grateful to the people who upload skating videos to youtube. Life would be grim, without them...

Ahhh that is so sweet that you and your wife support skating and Yuzuru so much! I've been trying to get my boyfriend into figure skating and he's slowly coming around...

I hope Yuzu gets assigned to either skate canada or skate america because I will definitely be taking off time from work to see him as well as the other young skaters and hopefully fresh faces!

I know we can't get enough of this:

Ana@WhateverHime compiled into a video the reaction of various commentators (NBC, CBC, BBC, France2, and Sky Sport (Italy)) to Yuzuru's world record breaking SP score at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi:

For me, the French won for the highest level of excitement, beating out the Italians ;). Love most Sir Robin Cousins' comment just before the record score was flashed: "Oh my goodness me! Wait until you see this!"

Thanks again Ana for this!

Very nice video! Thanks, their reactions are priceless ^^

Japanese never fail to amaze me. Video of a girl's make-up transformation into Yuzuru: http://youtu.be/K5ii11rGQT8?t=1m34s

Are you french Whateverhime ? ;)

No :) I'm from Romania, but i did study French for 8 years, back in school. Well, it doesn't really show as I could't have a decent conversation for the life of me. I just think we, as Romanians, are kinda lucky because it's pretty easy for us to understand Romanic languages. So I have a decent understanding of French, Italian and Spanish. As a Yuzuru fan I feel pretty blessed, since the French/Italian/Spanish commentators are amongst those who are most excited over him :)

I confirm romanian generally speak french very well , and even if they have an accent, their accent is nice to hear. My maths teacher comes from romania and i'm always fascinated by his french .

Brian Orser cried the moment that Yuzu won the gold medal at Sochi Olympics. Very touching!

Thanks for sharing echotpe! I thought I had seen all the pictures and videos of that night Yuzuru achieved his life's dream ("Katta"), but once again you came up with something I haven't seen before.

I think Brian Orser was experiencing a mix of emotions when he cried, including reliving his own crushing Olympic disappointment in Calgary (hence his understandable empathy with Patrick Chan). Probably there was also a sense of relief for he must have been aware that had Yuzuru not won the gold medal, there would have been a lot of second-guessing about Yuzuru's move to Canada to train under him and rightly or wrongly, blame would have been laid at his doorstep. Also there is pride as coach in his pupil's (Yuzuru's) accomplishment.

I thought Brian Orser said exactly the right things to Yuzuru after Yuzuru's less than perfect free skate. When Yuzuru thought he had let the gold medal slip away, Brian Orser told him it's not over yet, meaning Patrick still has to come up with the goods to beat Yuzuru's score. And when Yuzuru did win and being Yuzuru, was unhappy ("regretful") at how he won, Brian Orser told him a win is a win, words that Yuzuru would later echo.

When Yuzuru bowed to his coach and embraced him, it was in acknowledgment of all that the latter had done for him. They went on a journey together that was not without its ups and downs, but now they have that Olympic golden moment in Sochi and hopefully more yet still to come.

Does this mean he is going to Skate Canada? We'll have to wait and see.

If I remember correctly, Hanyu gets to choose his assignments bc he is one of the #1 and #2 seed. Your best shot would be team Borser whispering in his ear to choose something in NA.

Yuzuru has been invited to a press conference by The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on April 24th.
I think you can see it live although I don't know how yet. Did anyone see Mao's live?
