Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

This is a bit out of context, but I hope that Hanyu tries to maintain humble despite the huge media/fan attraction to him specifically in Japan at the moment. His schedule is loaded and as fans, we all wish for him to have enough rest. ;)

On a side note, how does he come up with so much to say in such a short time for interviews and speeches? I feel like intellectual words just sprout from his mouth!

Hi there,

Do you see Mr. Yoshida, the husband of Nanami, is showed and cheered at 2:30? His board message is "Shut up & Skate"

Actually, I saw more and more people around Yuzu mentioned his "talkative" style. A teacher of Waseda University met him at first time two week ago, was impressed with his easy, free talk ability that is much different from stereotypes of athletes.

The young man maybe has grown toward to a “great speaker” besides of great skater. ;)

A bit old video (just before 4 continent last year), but you can see Yuzuru in the Nobeyama Training Camp.

It features Japanese novice-category boy skaters. The number of boy skaters is increasing in Japan. The coach says it has been doubled comparing to his days, even if still less than girls.

Shingo Nishiyama won the Novice Japanese Nationals 2012, and Kosho Oshima was 8th.
Shingo respects Yuzuru very much.

And, a junior skater, Sota Yamamoto (13 ys old in the video) also respects Yuzuru. It may be apparent from his costume

Thanks SuzyQ for the links!

So heartwarming to see Yuzuru inspiring another generation of Japanese skaters...and this was even before Yuzuru won the Olympics! Even juniors from other countries look up to him like Nam Nguyen (Canada) and Nathan Chen (USA) even if until December last year, Yuzuru could have skated in the junior ranks himself.

Sota Yamamoto's version of Yuzuru's iconic Etude costume is adorable! :) And Sota jumps pretty good too like his idol.

【video】Yuzu’ support project from Sendai

They invited over one hundred persons in Sendai from various segment, wrote their cheering messages in board and recorded with board by themselves. The film link was sent to Yuzu by email just the day before he attended the team competition.

He replied the email to thank the strong support from local people and committed he would do the best to win.

Indeed, Yuzu took the gold medal as a gift of Sochi coming home, as one person in the film asked him. :agree: What a son of Sendai!

Thanks for posting!!!

This clip is incredibly melting and made me cry... I can’t believe how a pencil thin kid made a whole city became one heart, one voice and one soul because of him!

Messages were all beautiful (jump!!!)! I agree the best one is “Shut up and skate”!

A special mention to the seal at 1:6 and to the firemen!:)

I finally have have a summary of the video where Kikuchi-san cries : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyIcePQBzcc

Just the part with Mr. Yoshida and that with Mr. Kikuchi
When asked if he noticed any difference between Yuzu and other kids when he was an elementary school kid, any distinct talent that indicated the possibility of becoming a gold medalist later, Mr. Yoshida said “well, his ability to talk (very much), I thought, could deserve a gold medal. “He could talk a lot and he was very flexible.”

When asked about his impression on Yuzu when he was an elementary school kid, Mr. Kikuchi said “He was very clearheaded. He knew what he could do and what he could not and he could express them.” “He could also practice hard on what he could not do.”

Narration says “Hanyu-senshu went right to Kikuchi-san after he found out his victory to share the joy with him. Kikuchi-san says that even now it brings tears to his eyes when he remembers the moment. (He cries then.) He further commented that Yuzu won the gold by putting everything in his teenage days into skating, so that (his winning the gold) moved him, inspired him and he is very thankful. Kikuchi-san says to Yuzu, “Yuzuru-senshu, congratulations on your winning the gold medal. Thanks to you, I myself could grow to be better/develop further. Truly, congratulations.”

Now THAT causes me to tear up as well  as Mr. Kikuchi must be more than twice Yuzuru's age and yet he admits learning something from Yuzuru. What a great compliment!

Thanks Yuzusan for the translation and also to Mi9000.

【Fan Art】Together on Ice, Javi, Yuzu & Pooh

In middle June, Javi will attend “Together on Ice”, the ice show in Sendai. Yuzu is defenitely the host.

A fan draws creative paintings for two of them. They show that Yuzu with Pooh bring Javi to have delicious meals (well, doubt it ) and do souvenir shopping. Quite cute!

(1) Have one of famous gourmets in Sendai
(2) Javi does a lot shopping.
(3) Pooh wanted to taste the Japanese dessert!
(4) both tasting desserts

ps.
It seems to have one more pieces later. Will update if any.

Thanks yuzusan. Very touching the words of Kikuchi

GUYS!

Off-topic but Skate America 2014 is announced to be in Hoffman Estates, IL. Which would be awesome because I would rather go to Chicago (since the place is only 45 min away) then some town in Canada I've never heard of for Skate Canada.

I can't wait to see Yuzuru's schedule for this season *crossing fingers*

The kid talked with CBC after Worlds, full interview in English. He tried really hard. Let's celebrate his improvement at English:

If I remember correctly Skate America is the first GP this year, so considering how late Yuzuru is gonna start with the preparation I don´t think it will be smart for him and his team to choose that.
