Mirai Nagasu's future prospects

Not wanting to sound like a debbie downer but: triple Axel, okay, how are the other jumps looking? Are they rotated?

I remember way back when she was around 14 she was on YT with 3A attempts, all ur'd. Now she has a new body with stronger legs and arms, I hope she can get this and show it in competition. But if it's just summertime training and practicing a 3.5 rev jump helps her fully rotate her other jumps, then that's fine as well. Tom Z does have a way of getting his skaters to jump. I'm happy to read about this 'new Mirai' and hope she keeps up the hard work and finally shows her stuff this season. When she's in shape and her mind is on fire she's just as good as Ashley and Gracie. Could make for an interesting season.

I'm curious to know if Mirai secured a sponsor which allowed her to go to CoSpgs and train full on? That could make all the difference to her success.

Such a shame a beautiful skater like Mirai has never made it to the GPF. Now it would be something if

lol

So Mirai said yes! YES! I hope we see video footage of her 3A - rotated or no I think it's cool that she's practicing them.

I think Mirai and Tuk are in similar positions and I wish both would not attempt a 3a in competition unless their confidence is thru the roof with it. We've all seen the 3a fumble up Mao a bit in competition but the thing is Mao had the ability to make up for the error as she skated on. Not sure if this will be the case for Mirai. I personally thought Mirai's jump landings looked a little iffy on the videos I've seen pop up recently. Like her free leg is coming down a bit too early as a balance check instead of being held high.

That said I feel a positive movement from her camp and wish for the best to her and her fans.

***my phone always auto-corrects to Miria*** :bang:

Hopefully Mirai (and Tuk too!) won't compete 3A's unless they are landing them fairly consistently in practice. But who knows - maybe neither will compete one. Mirai may just be doing them or attempting them for fun.

It seems like the summer competitions would be a great time to try something new, when there isn't the pressure of getting a high GP placement. Didn't Brandon do his first 4Lz in a summer event?

It occurred to me that Mirai is looking to fill the void of Alissa Czisny. We know she has terrific spins and I see an every increasing artistry; a purposeful meaning to each move. Now if she can get her jumps solid-she's on to something. I already see a more defined muscularity to her upper body and less of the "deer in headlights" look. Sometimes it's still that dead-pan, I'm focusing so hard that I can't relate to the music but I think it's improving. I know Gracie and Ashley are the brands but Mirai is my hope for the next 4 years.

Is there anyway she can go to Japan? They seem to need some strong skaters now that Asada is likely to exit in the next few years...

She is so talented and maybe she can have a shot at an Olympic medal in 2018.

Speaking of jumps, from the summer comp video, I think Mirai's lutz jumps looked really improved and solid, the take-off edge is very good and seems fully rotated, However, her flip jump seems to have a shaky take-off edge now. her 2A in her 2A-2t combo, is extremely high. perhaps due to those 3A practice. Also, I wish Mirai can practice 3S as well. I just love this girl, some quality about her skating edges is really pleasing. I wish her all the best in the future.

She still holds Japanese citizenship until her 22nd birthday. So in all hypotheticals, she definitely could skate for Japan - but she would have to sit out for quite a while considering her last international event for the US was 4cc's this year.

No way is Mirai giving up her US citizenship to skate for Japan.

wanted to share a video someone posted of her performance at ISI in Massachusetts from about a week ago. It's not the strongest quality vid but man it's a really nice performance of On Golden Pond. Even though it's far away, I've noticed some subtle changes in the choreo that I think are lovely. Just a little more nuance with the music.

Also Tom Z did an interview with Manley Woman recently where he briefly mentions Mirai and her training at the end.

If you want to hear just that part skip to the very end. He plays kind of coy about it but he speaks really highly of Adam's choreo and I think he likes working with Mirai so far. When asked what his goals for her are he said "My goals are Mirai's goals" and then he complimented her work ethic. I wonder if we'll see her in anymore summer events/comps. Do we know when rosters for the senior B's come out?
