Did you see the Romeo and Juliet she skated on Saturday? I posted it on an earlier page. I liked it and wouldn't be at all upset of they beefed up the music and let Ilya choreo it as opposed to Morozoz who did the first one.

I think it's not a good choice for a young girl because it's a song of mature women, who experienced a lot. Just some parts of the song: " i don’t smoke anymore", "I am dirty without you", "I don’t have a life anymore and even my bed turns into a platform" (of a station), "I drink every night but all whisky for me, they have the same taste".

I know that young girls want to seem older and that is why they take 'mature" music. This song probably would be ok if Adelina was skating only to music, without lyrics (like Julia did last year).

I'm not sure that "sick" is the right word there, it is more like have feelings/passion in english.

That's what the translator said. And of course she isn't 15 like Elena but 18. And these are important 3 years of age difference.

I would say she better stick with the story of the song.
She might intend to interpret that as being sick (passioned etc) aboout FS, but the vocals in the background are still those.
Adding her own interpretation, which doesn't make much sense, to those words will add confusion.

That's just what she said in an interview I read yesterday.

I'm aware that this is, again, about different cultures, but in my country this song is not inappropriate for a 18 year old, since it's normal here to have experienced the things the song is about at least to some extent at 18 years of age.
But I can see people's point nonetheless.

I have no problem with that indeed. When I saw the video I thought she was interpreting the song, as it is.

I think what she is trying to portray in the program is that sometimes you can love someone or something so much that it can make you sick. It doesn't really matter if it is about relationship, about specific person, about some thing or some activity, in her case skating. She is portraying longing for something so desperately that if she doesn't have it, she could become unwell. And I definitely don't think that topic is inappropriate for 18 year old.

I disagree. She took the concept of the song (wanting something desperately, Loving it far too much for her own good and becoming unwell if she doesn't have it) and related it to her own experience. I think it is much better than portraying much older woman to whom she may not even be able to relate. Skaters don't always interpret the song as it is in original. They take the idea, but they don't follow exactly the words. Look at programs from ice dance; they also don't take literary what the words say.

No, what I am telling you is that they will see someone that wants something and it makes her ill. The same way as Julia's Schindler's list last year for a person who has never seen the film, they would see the interpretation, but they would not necessarily know that she is portraying a little girl in a red coat, and yet it would still make sense for them. The feelings remain the same. Like with Adeline's program -the feelings also remain the same as the original concept.

I would actually LOVE if she recycled it but possibly not yet. I think it would be VERY interesting to see what she could do with it in 2 or 3 years once she is a bit more 'adult' and has seen more of life and experienced more by sheer virtue of age.

She was 14, yes.
Women in those times did married very young. Basically a woman was still a child when she had to marry and gave birth to children.
Also life expectancy was low.

The good thing about Juliet is that is relevant to any age. Well, not over 50 maybe (who knows), but I'm speaking about skating and dancing.

However, I think what tulosai meant by age was that being more "adult" might help her more in terms of intepretation etc.

But have you been around adolescent kids? they are CRAZY! They'd kill themselves for love if they grew up in a time where death was commonplace.
I always thought the fact that they were so young played a big part in making the story believable.
A more mature couple would think a bit before believing their love was dead and deciding to die as well.
