2014 Nebelhorn Trophy

C/B - 7.58 for Interpretation/Timing. Well, I don't like them but it's too low. Seriously. I think they were OK today.

W/P were ok too. Good for them that B/S withdraw. Easy 1st place.

About Hawayek/Baker:
- Lift is their signature besti squat curve lift
- She fell when he grabbed her hand after the twizzles
- Need some more authority and smoldering for this SD to work (maybe the fall rattled them)

SD: 27.63/27.48-2.00 = 53.11, 3rd (out of 8)

I'm not their fan either, but I must say I like their SD more. It's different.

I loved that lift in last year's FD, but it didn't quite seem to fit the program here. It seemed like they found a place in the music that could fit the lift, as opposed to finding a lift that fit the music.

I've been reminding myself that it is early in the season so these programs may be a bit unpolished or cautiously skated but will hopefully have room to grow.

Yeah, everyone really was a bit rough today. I don't think any of the dances stood out for me. Maybe its just way too early after the Olympic season. Everyone looks really tired or tense.

The audio is weird. Is it just me?
It's in sync., but it looks like separate from the danze. Like it was added to the dance from another source, not live.

Not just you, my audio has a really tinny sound, like speakers with distortion.

The audio/video quality of the archived individual programs is far superior to the live stream -- at least for me. :)

And I am impressed that the archived video of each separate program has been posted so quickly. :yay:

About Zhiganshina/Gazsi:
- He looks so different: short hair, stubbles, and wearing a wifebeater
- She's an Italian hausfrau? I wonder what the story is...
- Twizzles off unison
- Rotational lift with him swinging her around his neck is clunky

SD: 30.73/29.94-2.00 = 58.67, 3rd

I'm here for TEAM AUSTRALIA!

...also I need a skating fix and there's no way I'll be awake when the men's SP happens.

So this wraps up the SD, besides everyone almost wearing the same (laughs) a nice opener in my opinion. My favorite pair was from Canada but not Kaitlin and Andrew even though they were decent today.

A few couples struggled like the Koreans but also Weaver Poje.

Details later, the results for now are:

1 Kaitlyn WEAVER / Andrew POJE 65.59 1
2 Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES 62.80 2
3 Nelli ZHIGANSHINA / Alexander GAZSI 58.67 3
4 Kaitlin HAWAYEK / Jean-Luc BAKER 53.11 4
5 Elisabeth PARADIS / Francois-Xavier OUELLETTE 47.62 5
6 Allison REED / Vasili ROGOV 42.50 6
7 Cortney MANSOUR / Michal CESKA 40.15 7
8 Yura MIN / Timothy KOLETO 40.10 8
9 Lauri BONACORSI / Francesco FIORETTI 39.29 9
10 Rebeka KIM / Kirill MINOV 38.61 10
11 Carter Marie JONES / Richard SHARPE 36.35 11

W&P's SD.

Still, it's too early and I have to see them again, with a proper audio if possible.

I agree, I liked them more than W/P today. But I agree with final placing.

Edit: one of the judges gave C/B only 6.5 for skating skills. I bet he's (or she's) canadian

I enjoy Z/G programs as kind of the art house movie version of ice dance story telling. I don't always know what they are going for, but it is usually interesting. So is their vision of the bullfighter and his cape like Stanley and Stella in a Streetcar Named Desire? Only they know for sure:laugh:.

Let me say that this experimental IJS version is at least a bit confusing to read :scowl: And, it looks like most of the couples received a deduction for violation of choreography restrictions

Thanks to capella on FSU, a violation of choreography restrictions:

Violation of choreography restrictions
• Short Dance: as per Rule 709, para 1.d) (pattern), g) (separations), h) (stops) and i) (touching the ice with hand(s))
