I used to say that of Hanyu's PCS escpecially his Olympics long program. I would have put it in the range of six but I guess he littered the ice so beautifully and became a human Zambonie and therefore deserved of those PCS. Make sense to you? Yucks!

i think the point is many people think that high PCS should go with quad. PChan only got 90 PCS after he put the wuad in his long, and his skating skill is topnotch.
But anyways we shouldn't compare from one competition to another since top skaters' PCS tend to be inflated in Olympic season.

Hmm, talking to Konstantin yesterday he said that in the past it was all about the quads but today its a lot more. You need to actually combine the jumps with artistry, skating skills etc. quads alone wont win you medals. Its not so that you make a quad and automatically win a medal and I agree with him.

But should the judges score well executed easier elements higher in the P/E components just because they were done better? At some point the difficulty has to factor into even the PCS scores...right? I don't even like quads but then again I'm not impressed by hamming it up for the crowd (which I think some consider artistry) at all. How can we fairly score these things?

I am just saying many people, still think that in order to be rewarded 90PCS, you should take more risk (aka quad), and it's understandable. Many people don't think that having a quad means better, of course you have to show the speed, the skills, the combination and everything in one... But well...maybe they think having quad in program means you are more willing to go to a new level.

It seems to me PCS is the most contentious part of figure skating score. Sometime I'm wondering whether figure skating truly a sport sport.....maybe half-sport because of the way it is scored. What is considered the 'sporty' athlete-tism part of figure skating and how this is scored? With half part objective (TES) and half part subjective (PCS) no wonder there are fights like this because everyone has their favourites skaters

I dislike Brown's skating. Too feminine, superfluous and cheesy. A program should never be so full. I kept thinking there was a resemblance between Brown and Leonova.

If this is the direction we are going half of the men competing right now should just quit already.

I don't think Jason is feminine at all. And even if he is, there is nothing wrong with that. What's up with all the "guys have to be masculine" mindset? We are living in 21st century for God's sake. If some men feel that being compared to women is an insult to them, then they don't deserve to be called men at all.

Jason has always been an anomaly, both in his performance and technical decisions. He is certainly not the new norm. There are still plenty of 'masculine' skaters (though what does that even mean??) out there, winning medals, and performing wonderful programs. I don't always enjoy Jason's OTT-ness, it doesn't always work for me, but it's never boring.

I am one of those ho believe quads in program should have impact on PCS. There are many factors to count that it, you can have transitions, steps to triples, and thats great, but then have steps and transition to quads, which Chan and Hanyu are great at, especially Hanyu because he is doing his quad immediately after steps without waiting a second to regroup and this for sure have impact on PCS -not mentioning his 3A entrances


I like very much Jason LP, not so much SP. Program is great, but the only thing I am missing in this program is quad. Maybe more speed also would be welcome

Well,

I can only speak for myself there. In my opinion a program that is clean without too many mistakes is more enjoyable than one with a landed quad but a totally dead skater after 2 minutes because of the stamina drain that those hard elements come by with. This was especially visible at Sochi where they were totally exhausted after their LPs.

Because of this I wanted to know what the skaters had to say about it and Konstantin and Michal were so kind to answer that question and gave their personal view about it.

Konstantin said that for him personally the combination of a clean skate with a quad but also good PC´s and a good artistry is where he has the most problems with.

It takes so much to stay focused and healthy and to be able to combine high technical difficulties with a well thought out and constructed choreography and interpretation.

Michals response was very interesting to me. He said that he doesn't feel pressured at all, he does the quad in the practice and if you as a skater do a quad in your practice then you also want to show it to the people in competition and not keep it for yourselves.

You don't look at other skaters and their ability to do a quad, its more something that you want to prove yourself that you can do it.

Besides that Michal added with a smile that the quad is

"just a jump like any other and easy".

Michal also said that mens figure skating is not just about the jumps but about combining the music with your skating skills, you need to be able to sell a program and this is why he has chosen his program. The quad is just one part of it.

Talking about music,

Konstantin said about his musical choice that it was important for him to send a message because of all the stuff that is currently happening in the world. Journalists are killed, innocent people suffer and the music was there before the actual program and they used the music to choose fitting elements to express that.

But what's their plan to get to 85 like Jason? How do they do it? They are trying it seems but why are they so horrible at pcs scores? Who can they go to. Every man needs to ask themselves how they can be like Brown, Chan, Hanyu in pcs. The standard of pcs in skating. If they have no interest they have no interest but neither could ever hope to be a Jason Brown.

I also liked Jason's LP a lot better than his SP. Despite the excess sound effects. The drinking sound effect definitely needs to go though. use a different, less loud one. The SP was a bit choppy. but it'll probably be all good by Nationals. He'll get faster and more on point with it with time. Even though I don't like the SP choreo, he certainly has the power to sell it to me later.
