2014 Japan Open

Officially Lip was replaced by Pogo. No explanation of the reason.
I suspect Lip didn't want to compete with Radionova early in the season.

TV Tokyo's twitter says that Lipnitskaya withdraws because she's "not in good condition". I don't know what this means. Probably Pogo's participation was decided when she withdrew from Nebelhorn. They didn't announce it until today in order to sell (more) tickets.

Isn't it a team event? So...you mean competing with Radionova right...as opposed to against which you seem to be implying. They are going to face off a lot this year for sure. TEB, Russian Nationals and potential for more showdowns at Euros,GPF, and Worlds if both have successful seasons.

Yulia didn't get her FS program until about two weeks ago. She probably isn't in top form yet and it makes no sense to rush back for a competition that does nothing for your world ranking. It's a good opportunity for Anna.

not in good condition ... is a typical excuse for athletes to avoid risks. I don't take it at face value.

And of course, Japan Open is worthy than senior Bs. The winner gets $20K per capita + gala stipend.

Can you please stop your far-stretch theories for once? Anyone who follow Yulia knows that She has to changed her LP 3 times this summer. And the last one was just done 2 weeks ago, and only God knows is it truly completed yet. Of course she is not in top form at this time because the choreography might need major changes even now.

In that case, I can safely assume that she "chose" to change the FS at the "right" timing.
Not only to Radionova, she can be easily beaten by Miyahara at home. Avoiding the "competition" is a wise decision.

She didn't choose. Her Mulan was not approved by the Russian fed at the close test skate. She has to change it, not her own will.

Unlike "injury" or "illness", I think "delayed choreography" is nothing but an excuse.
I remember Ando withdrew Cup of China due to "having no coach".

If your choreography is not done yet, how can you perform? If JO is an SP event, she might not hesitate. But it's a LP event, and her LP is not even done properly.

So, according to you, the Rus Fed ditched a perfectly good FP - only so that Julia could avoid Japan Open? There are much easier ways, you know - or maybe you don't - she could have had the "flu" or something, no? Or any other temporary affliction you could name.

I think "delayed choreo" is the better excuse if they want to "decide" 3-4 weeks before JO.

Not sure what's your point. Hanyu withdrew from Finlandia Trophy. Are we going to accuse Hanyu that he is faking his injury because he is not ready to compete yet?

Hanyu doesn't need to fake an injury in order to avoid "competition"....

Don't waste your time, just hit the ignore button. :disapp:

Poor Yulia, although I'm not excited for another R&J I wanted to see what she'd bring. Doesn't she have skate boot problems? It can be really uncomfortable to skate an unfamiliar 7 triple LP with uncomfortable boots, better play it safe and not get hurt during the beginning of the season.

Anna P is one of my favourite underdogs, I can't wait to see her. It's scary to think that even though Yulia has withdrawn there's another girl there who can compete at the same level, eek

omg :slink: Please, discuss politics somewhere else.
YL has new boots. That's all!

According to what she said in VK, she changed new boots and was sick, which forced her to off-ice for 1 week....
Poor girl, hope she could get recovery soon....

You're being pretty ridiculous. Lipnitskaia had boot/health issues. I don't think she cares if she lost to Radionova so early in the season, over a month before her first legitimately important competition on the GP.

The prize money is nice, but the shape of skaters and their results of Japan Open (especially post-Olympics season) don't mean anything. Last year, Sotnikova was 4th behind Wagner, Asada, and Rochette... and then she went on to win the Olympics. Chan was 6th in 2012 with a FS score of 137 points, and then every FS after that was 160+ points.

Lipnitskaya has no choice from the beginning. HE decided everything. That's the conclusion.

He won't care even if Lipnitskaya loses to Radionova. But she can lose to Miyahara and Murakami easily in Japan. That's not pleasing for him.
