Just wondering, why is there so few quotas compared to the normal Olympics? Like 18 skaters in singles, it´s really difficult for small federations to get a quota.

I´m guessing though there will be no qualifying for the FS with so few skaters?

The Youth Olympics is a much smaller event, and the athlete quotas per sport are much smaller than for the Olympics.

Figure skating is allocated only 72 skaters total, not sure why. I guess each country can only send max 2 skaters to events so that more countries can participate.
However, the quotas were determined mainly via junior worlds with a few quotas from the JGP series. So yes the feds need athletes from the previous season to place ~top 12 to qualify spots. Hannah & Ye actually earned 2 ice dance spots but Korea only has 1 eligible team to send to YOG. The unused dance spots went to China and Italy.
I think winter universiade is a bit more open for small feds to take part (except that you have to be enrolled at or graduated from university within the last year)
There wasn't a cutoff at the last YOG, every athlete skated both programs.

Seems like forever since I last did one of these!

Everything from the Youth Olympics is being shown LIVE on Discovery+ / the Eurosport website.

The TV Guide on Discovery+ only goes a week in advance. However, I was able to get a further week’s worth of broadcasts by going through the “Upcoming” section at the bottom of the pages for the livestreams.

If there are any more broadcasts after 1st February that may involve figure skaters (Gala, Closing Ceremony), I’ll edit them in when they become available.

Lee Hae-In is one of the six athletes carrying in the Korean Flag. She was introduced as being the 2023 Four Continents Ladies Champion.

The commentators are useless. They are only telling us who one or two of the flagbearers in the Parade Of Nations are.

I'll let you know if they point out any flagbearers that are figure skaters, or if I recognise any. But, don't hold your breath waiting.

The commentator said that an Egyptian figure skater was one of the six athletes carrying the Olympic Flag. But, I didn't catch the name, and I don't see any Egyptians entered. So, I don't know who it was.

EDIT: Found out on the Ice Skate Egypt page on Instagram. It was Salma El Sakka, the current Egyptian Advanced Novice Ladies Champion.​

The stream was experiencing a LOT of interference while the Olympic flag was being carried in and a choir was singing the Olympic Anthem. Somebody rapping.

I think the interference might be happening again. But, it might be part of the performance. It's hard to tell.

Yes, it is interference. Because it was continuing while the Olympic Flame was being paraded around the arena, and the cauldron being lit.

No figure skaters amongst the torchbearers. (But quite a few speed skaters).

Ach, this is awful. We have people singing in the arena, but we can't hear them because of the interference.

Aha! They got rid of the interference in the middle of a performance by a boyband. But after about 30 seconds, it came back.

Oh, now somebody is talking.

Ah, they've fixed it again.

Right, I knew that Korean groups tend to be rather large, but this girl group has about 2 dozen members!

Actually, when I managed to count them, there were 15 in total.

There is a band on now, and the lead singer has a weird way of singing. I have heard somebody singing like that in English, but I can't think who it was. (Probably a good thing!)

We've now got a pitch invasion by the athletes. Hardly any of them are still in their chairs, they're all dancing.

I think we're reaching the climax of the night. Because it is just chaos now.
