2026 Olympics: Where Will You be Watching?

I am also so disappointed at how poor Olympic coverage is. In Beijing I could watch the youtube stream with any random Asian VPN.

The one thing I saw working for me is that I downloaded Planet VPN, changed the VPN to France, and was using the FranceTV stream for the Olympics. It was ok, hoping it remains reliable.

Does anyone know what country doesn't have Olympic streaming rights? That way we can watch the IOC livestreams without commentary or interruptions.

Came back to NZ a few hours ago and tried to sign up with CBC with my VPN. The account was created, but they wouldn't let me sign in. So I can't watch anything. Not impressed.

I don’t know how to get to the IOC livestreams. Perhaps an African country or other country with 0 athletes at the Olympics? A small island nation?

You know, I had already signed up with that CBC Gem account using a Canadian zip code--and I was able to get in the first time to see a bit of curling. When I attempted to log in 15 minutes before the Team SPs began, the log-in refused to work. In fact, my entire PC was acting wacky. I had to go to Google and 'unhook' the radio-Canada.ca account from my Google account in order to get it to settle down! Did me using a 'fake' Canadian zip code cause it? Or was the site just overwhelmed with use? At any rate--I was able to view the German channel using my VPN set to Germany, and even then, my VPN needed to reset to a different German city in order for the site to work correctly--the first two Ice Dance routines were spoiled, I guess due to overuse, but at least I got to view everything after that.

Now--I need a proper full link to the German site for Day 2, if anybody has it handy. Please--anybody?

Watching on the dreaded Peacock and will cancel when skating season is done. Also recording as much as they show off of the USA channel and the actual NBC live and taped coverages. What I really hope is that NBC has regular times for the medal ceremonies, they normally do those in their late night show and I hope they continue that tradition.

That really is aweful. Just guessing but it really seems like streaming entities are recording common servers used by common VPNs. I dont understand the point. You want to watch skating....you are willing to pay....what is the catch?

I just recorded the limited team coverage that NBC rabbit ears broadcast. And edited out the commercials. Unless PaulE knows a way, the only way I know how to save the skating is to burn DVDs from the Hard drive. IIRC there is no "video output" ports on the Magnavox. Yes, I cancel every end of season and renew the next fall.

Hey--thank you, Chris! I just checked the soyouwanttowatchfs channel and found the German links! For all the events! Whew--you saved me--thought I was going to have to wrestle with that crazy CBC Gem account again--I believe that thing was just too 'full' last night to allow me access. I can only imagine what it will be like tonight--for any 'fake' Canadian VPN user like me, especially.

Oddly they also give the fan qq channel link as a possibiity but all I found there when I checked during Day 1's events were the scoring sheets. I saw somewhere that the Japanese sports channel used wasn't allowing anybody to 'pirate' the use of it during the Olympics. What they do instead is, bring up the site but place a large screen right on top of the action which only shows the scores as they happen.

I asked the olympics instagram why there is a youtube if it's geoblocked everywhere and they said it's not geoblocked for some smaller countries in Afrika. So maybe if you can find a VPN for one of those countries ....

Thank you, Kiki5375! I will clean out my PC 15 minutes ahead of time, reset to Germany and use either your link or the one provided on soyouwanttowatchfs I learned about after I asked earlier about needing a link here. At least I do know not to click on a link too soon.

The really sad thing to me is this event is not about world peace, getting along, commadrie...sportsmanship.....its about money. It has become over bloated with meaningless sports...and the Super bowl is no better. The coverage on NBC for the super bowl
is from 9 in the morning till 7:30 at night. And my local TV affiliates in Spokane have been hammering Superbowl tripe for a week instead of doing news. And now the media makes it very difficult to even watch the olys for some. What kind of Oly spirit is that? If NZ fields a team, then their tv media should be allowed to air the Olys, even if its in the middle of the night, for recording.
And the opening ceremonies were blah and drawn out. Hey, I like Andrea Bocelli..and Nessun dorma is a beautiful song...but its about a guy trying to win the love of a cold hearted princess???? As the Italian piano player and the celloist said on my cruise ship, "Welcome to Opera". I am so sorry for all of you being kept from watching the olys.....

They should un-geoblock the international olympic stream as soon as the national network who owns the rights doesn't show a competition. I cannot clmplain about olympic coverage in Germany at all. They seem to stream everything. But for other skating events they buy the rights for a whole competition and only show Hase/voludin and I need VPN to watch the ISU stream

I'm going to reply to a few related posts from a number of different threads in one go here.

The challenge I am having is that the digital platform for Discovery+ does not distinguish between the digital stream and the one which is also showing on TV. It shows both, and I cannot tell which is which. I want the digital version because that will (I hope!!!) be ad-free and the TV version will have lots of advertisement breaks.

I see the stream that we were assuming would be advert free isn't.

The no commentary soundtrack is on that stream. The TNT Sports 4 stream just has the commentary soundtrack.

I was watching the Women's Downhill Training Run this morning (it wasn't being shown on the TV channels), and I accidentally made a discovery (pardon the pun).

The adverts on the additional streams are not "real" advert breaks. They are inserted. (You can tell by the yellow "Ad" logo in the top left hand corner). If you press the refresh button on your browser to re-load the page, you get to see the live pictures again.

Of course, this only works if you are actually watching LIVE. If you are playing catch-up while it is still on air, refreshing will take you LIVE, and you then have to find where you were. Which is a handling.

As for when they are archived, I just went back to yesterday's additional stream and checked the Short Dance Group 2 Warm-Up and, sure enough, the adverts that we watched when it was on LIVE were gone.

So, something to remember.

So great not having to listen to Mark!

Mark was in the TNT Sports studio during the run-in to the Opening Ceremony, talking about who to look out for.

I think the studio stuff is being done from London. So, if the TNT Sports / Eurosport commentary is also being done from London rather than on site, I wouldn't be surprised if Mark made his way into the commentary box at some stage.

Only hope that they don't enlist that ghastly Catherine Whittaker. But hey, I've got my mute button just in case!

Catherine was commentating on the Opening Ceremony last night, and was pointing out skaters, and talking about what had happened in the skating earlier in the day.

So, I wouldn't be surprised if she does end up commentating on the skating at some stage.

When you have an event like this, spread over a few weeks, it is probably a good idea to have a pool of commentators and rotate them.

Sorry, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, @viennaskater.

I’m really confused. I went to the Olympics webpage to see where to watch and it came up with NBC. Then I set VPN to Poland and it still said NBC?
