2026-27 Retirements, Splits and New Partnerships

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but
Kristina Dobroserdova and Alessandro Pellegrini (who competed in ice dance for Armenia at senior level the past couple of years) appear to have split. She is on the entry list for the Junior Grand Prix in Latvia with a different partner called Iaroslav Nechaev (for Armenia).

New Ice Dance teams from the Souvenir Georges-Ethier entry list as of August 11:

Aurea Cincon-Debout and Atl Ongay-Perez
Leane Landripet and Luke Anderson
Eliane Foroglou-Gadourey and Eric Alis Bosquet

They're all listed under Canadian clubs on the list at the moment, but that is not confirmation that they are representing Canada.

I was wondering who that is.. His last name is Eric Alis Bosquet which I do recognize now. They look good together. Wishing them well.

When I saw him at Nebelhorn two years ago he only went by Alis so that's how I've referred to him until now

I recognized the Bosquet name because it is French and Catalan (at first I thought he was French) and I love etymology. The root here is Boscus (wood) Bosquet means little wood like in little forrest or little garden that has some smaller shrubs.
Bouquet, which is the exact same etymology also evolved from Boscus (wood) and the 'et" diminutive for little. Originally they meant the same but nowadays a Bouquet refers to a bunch of flowers. Sorry Etymology and plants. My guilty pleasures.

That's how I read it too and considering all the issues he had with Latvian federation it would not surprise me...

By now, I think most people are familiar with the Spanish naming convention, whereby they have their Dad's surname (in this case Alis) followed by their Mum's surname (in this case Bosquet). But in everyday life, they usually shorten it to just the Dad's surname (in this case Alis). And the common, shorter approach was the one that tended to be used in entry lists and ISU Bios.

However, I've noticed over the past year or so that it is becoming a bit of a lottery as to which approach is used from one event to the next. Or from one ISU Bio to the next. Sometimes they are using both surnames; sometimes they are using just Dad's. And it is becoming a nightmare for these results databases that use software to input results, because they are creating multiple profiles for the same person.

Personally, I like the idea of using both parents' surnames. But, with different languages doing things differently (Portuguese names and some names in Nordic countries have Mum's surname and then Dad's), it can become very confusing. So, maybe it is better to just use the one surname for continuity.

But then there is the complication of people who use just their Mum's surname...

(I can think of two skaters off the top of my head who do that. And each of them for totally different reasons).

I think he is off the Olympic team because he will not commit to 4 more years. I doubt he is switching Feds. He is a Latvian star so I doubt they would let him go. He just wants more control over his career. My guess he will do one Challenger, Cup of China and Europeans. Only one spot for Worlds, so he may skip it.

Lets look back on his career. A novice star, 3 years as a Junior (3 junior worlds, 1 small medal, JGP medals, and Youth Olympic Medal)...
10 years as a senior ( 10 Worlds, 3 Olympics, 10 Europeans. One European Bronze medal). He is 27, he has trained in Latvia, Lithuania, France, Russia and Switzerland.
I am thrilled to see him coach, choreograph and compete.

He wrote: "Season to come, I will continue skating and reach my competitive fitness in peace outside the competitions. The main focus is shifting from competitive grind to a more personal artistic exploration and development that is driven primarily by my passion."

My interpretation is he's not competing this season, he will focus on artistic skating and probably will look for show opportunities to perform.

Deniss . However, I wish him all the best and expect he'll amaze me even more on his own termn.

I also understood he is taking at least a year off competitions and wants to do an artistic exploration outside the competitions. He is a Latvian star. No doubt about it. I will miss him. I always loved watching him skate. I hope he comes back, but I wish him all the best regardless.
