I will admit that I have zero background in figure skating and fairly new fan of figure skating in general even though my first "it" girl was Debbie Thomas, not Witt. Yes I have casually followed the figiure skating scene since then only to get really hooked into it thanks to Yuna-Mao rivalry. Since my favorite girl, Yuna, is about to retire in the near future, I was wondering about who is going to be my new "it" girl.

During the 2013 World, Li Zijun really caught my eyes. Since I am not good at all those technicality of scoring and everything, my main focus was how beautiful their skating looks to my own (and untrained) eyes. So I was saying to myself, now I am going to be a fan of both Yuna and Zijun.

Then I saw a thread on Polina Edmunds about a month ago here and I thought who is this girl? So I googled and saw 2 clips of her skating on youtube. They were both from 2013 US national I believe and boy, oh boy Polina's skating looked really smooth and beautiful.

Since I live in Korea, I haven't even heard her name until the above-mentioned thread.

So anyone lives in US, please tell me more about Polina Edmunds and her skating skills. And where she stands in terms of pecking order of US women skaters. And why her name is rarely mentioned when you guys were discussing Wagner, Gold, Osmonds etc. Many thanks in advance. ^^

Polina is the current US junior champion. Here's her bio. She just turned 15 in May, so she is still very young.

Her only international event so far was this year's Gardena Trophy in Juniors, which she won:

She just had a great season debut at Glacier Falls, a US summer competition.

She finished second in Seniors in the LP to Courtney Hicks,

and third behind Courtney & Mirai Nagasu in the SP.

She will be on the Junior Grand Prix this year for the first time. We are very excited about her chances!
She will compete in Mexico City JGP.

Exciting talent with many elegant qualities. She is at such an inflection point for herself in terms of physical development (normal for the age) and in terms of her skating (transitioning from Junior to Senior). It is a great observation to speculate on where she might fit in? She reminds me in some ways of a young more lyrical Sarah Hughes, but without the advantage of "perfect" timing in an Olympic cycle that Sarah enjoyed.

I've seen Polina live a few times, including the time she was competing with Gracie in SJ. I don't think she was standing out too much from the pack. Her jumps are getting better, but everything else is about the same as Barbie Long and less than Mariah Bell.
