It seems to me the Chairwoman of ISU Ice Dance Tech. Committee has to be here to ensure there is no shenanigans, so I am pleased to see this arrangement. As for Alpern being the referee, at the end of the day, the referee really doesn't matter wrt to competition results. Judges will do whatever they want, and they will deal with any explanations later. At men's event, a couple of judges gave Plushenko PCS marks that was in no way within the corridor but it was evident they couldn't care less, obviously because they feel they could justify them.

This tech panel is almost an exact repeat of the GPF Final dance panel. Elek of Hungary is the replacement asst. tech specialist.

When the results are official there may be some odd circumstances. It is highly possible at the end of the olympics you could see a skater like the Reeds, Reynolds, the US Pairs, the Japanese pairs, Jeremy Abbott with medals but Joubert, Fernandez, Ten, Kostne, Daisuke, Weaver and Poje, P and B without any medal. Such is life I guess.

This is good news for Canada and USA but bad for Russia. If Zijun were to skate, she has a real chance of beating both Osmond and Wagner if the latter two are less than perfect. At this point, unless Osmond bombs really badly, she won't finish any lower than 5th whereas even if Julia were totally clean, she may still end up being 3rd or 4th, hence significantly narrowing whatever perceived advantage Russia may have in the ladies' event.

I agree. Same with the Zhangs (or P/T if they're skating the team FS?) beating MT/M, if Li not skating prevents China from moving on to the final.

really?have you been watching figure skatings?
as far as I'm concerned that is the most predictable.

What I'm trying to say is that there's no clear prediction for ladies...after Japan Nationals especially I think we might see many different variations of Mao show up.

There is almost no way for the medals to change. Italy is already out and they know it, so they don't even use C&L and Kostner.
D&W will increase the gap between USA and Japan to 7-8 points, so the only way for Japan to overtake USA will be to have both Machida and Akiko win the LPs, and in the same time Brown AND Gold to bomb so badly that they come in 4th-5th.

So except from a last moment withdrawal or sth, we will have Russia 1st, Canada 2nd and USA 3rd for the first medals of the games.
