My wife and I were watching Japanese Nats on the telly and I pulled out my camera as I thought it was interesting to compare axels as far as distance, height and speed. Dont know if you can see this but will give it a go. Ayaka's 3A vs Kaori's 2A.

This is so innovative. I really hope they add it to every jump at ISU competitions. You can always count on the japanese for amazing camera angles and the best of the best technology.

They do the best job that I can see...I personally would like less talk during the skate a la ISU Jr GP final. I would love a lecture on how the I-scope works because the next step will be determining URs through technology. The software needed just to get the horizonal speed vector as the skater is skating on a curve only Doris and can understand....Hey, Maybe Doris wrote it!

I was also intrigued by this I-Scope technology. It's a nice comparison across all the ladies, at least within the same competition and under the same condition. So I tried to note done the results of a couple of ladies:

(The three numbers are: distance(m)/ height (m)/ speed in that order)
2A
Hongo 2.44/0.41/13.0
Mihara 2.18/0.31/16.6
Sakamoto 3.01/0.44/19.1
Yamashita 2.22/0.35/18.0
Higuchi 2.44/0.36/14.4
Miyahara 2.30/0.30/15.1
(*there's no result for Honda as she had a stepout of her 2A)

(Jr.)-2A
Yokoi 3.04/0.44/16.2
Araki 2.61/0.35/17.6
Wakabata 2.55/0.37/16.2
Naganawa 2.93/0.41/16.6

3A
Hosoda 2.33/0.47/14.8

*Kihira didn't have successful 3A attempt, so the I-scope was on her 3Lz
Kihrira 2.15/0.39/15.1

On the television broadcast, they offer an extra audio channel with no commentary whatsoever.

Wow! Meet the future! Thanks...that would be so cool on NBCSPORTSGOLD live and on demand....watch skaters as if you were there and then with commentation, graphics, etc.

Thanks. I am a Sakamoto fan and I like her speed.... One thing I thought about is that different federations push different techniques, IMHO. For Pairs throws, it seems the Russians like height and the Chinese like distance...Its subjective of course, but I like the
Chinese technique.

There is a body buried in all of this, of course. Athletes are competitive by nature.... we dont want to see a race to become the highest, farthest, fastest in the Guiness book of world records....that has injury written all over it....Yeah, Lucinda Ruh has the record for spin RPM, but look at the price she paid.... :(

Actually, that's technology that's been available since the 80's.

https://www.nytimes.com/1984/06/16/business/japan-s-stereo-tv-system.html

Yes! Back in the last century when I got my license to run a TV station (FCC 1st class) everything was analogue monoral . Then the world changed! Stereo! Shazammmmmmm! At that time, Then, with multiplex, as that wonderful old article states, and when Japan built TV sets, we could hear real live stereo over the air....2 channels.
And now in the 21st century, we have transitioned to digital High def. 5.1 channel surround sound. So yes, the technology is there to put out two comenteries, or even more...but this is the first time I have heard it done....you could choose Johnny and Tara over no commentary, if you wanted to. Not that I would do that.....:laugh2:
Raise your hands if you remember the converter boxes that let your analogue telly receive the first generation digital signals!
