There was no question as to who I was putting onto the Ladies podium, nor the order. And when I ordered the girls by absolute PB, I was happy with the names that ended up in the Top 12.

There was only one name that I wouldn’t have put there myself, and that was purely because I am totally unfamiliar with that skater. Looking at Alexandra Feigin’s competitive history, her appearances at Junior Worlds would have been the only times I would have seen her, and she wasn’t high enough up to order to come up on my radar. She has been scoring well at her other competitions, though, but I didn’t see any of those competitions.

Because I was unfamiliar with Feigin, I dropped her out of my Top 10. The problem then was that I wanted to put Tóth in my Top 10. Looking at the recent scores of those already in the Top 10, Rajičová was in pole position to be demoted. She has only had 1 competition this season, and her score was only 137.44. But I have a feeling about her, as she was doing very well last season. So, I dropped out Wienzierl instead, as the other skaters have been regularly scoring higher than her this season.

I got a shock when I came to do the Men and saw Javier’s name there. I thought he had retired! Whilst I am delighted that he hasn’t, it really threw a spanner in the works for my predictions. Because, since I haven’t seen him since the Olympics, I have no idea what sort of form he is in compared to the Russians that I was planning on having fill the podium.

Although I didn’t change any of the names that were in the Top 11 positions by absolute PB, I did make a lot of minor changes within that. As always, you never know which Kovtun will show up. So, I decided to move him down a couple of places so that Samarin completed the podium, and Březina was in his traditional 4th position.

Outside the scoring positions, I kept Aymoz and Bychenko in the same order, except they were now behind Březina instead of in front of him. I swapped Vasiljevs and Alexander Majorov around, because Majorov has generally been scoring higher this season. (Good to see both Majorov brothers competing here!) And I swapped Samohin and Kvitilashvili around for the same reason.

When it came to the Pairs, the was no question as to who was going into my Top 6. The question was which way around to put my 5th and 6th positions. And in the end, I went for the Austrians.

Below 6th, I just kept them in order of their ISU Season’s Best. Zoe and Chris haven’t competed at any competitions that count towards ISU PB’s this season, so I slotted them into where their ISU PB under the 3.0 GOE system would put them.

In Ice Dance, I only made one change from the ISU PB order. But it was a pretty big change. I moved Lilah and Lewis up from 8th on the list up to 5th. I just love these kids, and wanted to put them as high up as was realistically possible. I can’t see them challenging the Top 4, but I do think they are capable of getting into the Top 5.

I am really kicking myself here. I really like Sofia, and was planning on putting her into 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] behind Alina. But when I looked up the absolute PB's, I decided to go with Konstantinova instead.

But, this is one of those times that I am absolutely delighted to have got it wrong.

All in all, I am quite happy with how my Ladies predictions turned out. They were not a complete disaster by any means.

To mis-quote Eric Morecombe, for the scoring positions, "I had all the right skaters, but not necessarily in the right order". In fact, that same statement could be applied to my Top 7!
