2007 JGP Final

I have noticed that very few girls got dinged for wrong edge 'e' penalty on the junior circuits this year, while the senior ladies have been getting it for every little flutz and lip. I would guess it's more lenient judging instead of the junior ladies' having better techniques across the board. If so, I hope they'll bring it more in line with senior judging, so that these girls can fix their techniques before they get to the senior level.

I agree, feraina. I don't think that Flatt got dinged at all for her flutz this season, and unless she changed since US Nationals (unlikely), it's fairly obvious.

eta: I do think Nishino got a deducton for her lip, but I'd have to check.

Chrissie Hughes into 5th with 43.36 and a 1 point deduction. But I think it might be a time violation and not a fall, because this score is on par with her two SP skates earlier in the season without falls.

Nishino into first! Good for her, I like her skating. :)

edit: I checked, and Nishino got deductions for her lip in both Estonia and England. Flatt never did, but apparently only one lady at Vienna flutzed or lipped. I have a hard time believing that. Talk about inconsistent calling...

Incidentally, you only have to be an INTERNATIONAL judge (as opposed to an ISU judge) to sit on a JGP panel. 47 countries have qualified ISU judges in Singles and Pairs, and 32 in Ice Dancing.

So I don't think it's any coincidence that there are so many judges from former SSRs on these panels.
I still don't see anything alarming in these numbers by themselves. If there are something like 11 former SSRs in the ISU, we would expect about 2 out of 9 in Singles and Pairs and 3 out of 9 in ice dance, just by the luck of the draw.

Wow, amazing score for Mirai! That's a PB, right? Tomorrow should be an interesting battle among Mirai, Rachael (a great LP skater), and Nishino. Although Mirai goes into it with quite an advantage. I don't know if Rachael can catch her even with the 3-3, unless Mirai makes mistakes. Nishino, I don't know...

From what I've heard Mirai can do a triple/triple. Whether she does one in the long or did one today in the short, I don't know.

PB for Mirai, indeed. And yes, I've heard Mirai has a triple triple. I also read that Jenni might try a triple-triple too. Nishino has been fairly consistent in the JGP, but I don't know if she can hold off Flatt. Maybe if her triple-triple is downgraded.Nishino's had high levels in her spins this season, so who knows?

It'd be great if Rachael, Mirai, and Jenni can all put their 3-3's out there tomorrow! That would make it a phenomenal JGPF!

I think Nishino might be able to hold off Flatt. One thing I noticed is that Nishino's PCS went way up at today's competition. So I have a feeling her PCS will also be up in the long... That being said Rachael did put up a huge TES score in one of her JGP events.

Good point. I´m glad they went up, Nishino has a very nice basic skating quality. From the videos, it looks like she has decent speed as well.

It just goes to show that you really can't always compare events... I think once the judges were able to see how Nishino compared to the rest of the girls, her scores went up...

Website stopped updating for a bit, but it's back now: Velenosi & Fernandez in the lead with nearly 50, and Zhang and Wang down in fourth.

Low score for Zhang and Wang, lower TES than the Polish pair. Shame, they're a nice couple to watch.
