I haven't seen obvious "national inflation" at Japanese Nationals, at least last few years.
In fact, some people complain, judge should introduce it to boost Japanese skaters reputation.
Well, AFAIK, Kovtun complained about "national inflation" on Hanyu's score at Japanese Nationals in an interview last year.
I cared less about men's figure skating until recently, so I don't judge Kovtun's opinion.
However, it is funny though.

How old is Shoma? Does he have any more growth spurts? If so, he need a big one NOW.
I enjoy watching him but seriously.. but he has a little bit of that Miyahara problem except I am not sure who's shorter. I am reminded of watching Napoleon on ice!

Why would Kovtun care about what Hanyu was getting at his Nats?
The reason I read the interview is just because I was curious to know who would have the sole spot for Russia's men's figure skating at the Olympics.
He was not even decent toward his compatriot, Plushenko with the spectacular career either in the interview. Maybe he was insecure about the future selection at that time.
Anyway, he wasn't able to represent Russia at the Olympics, but Hanyu has got the gold medal.

Even though the lead score isn't that high, I always think it's pressure on the one who skated last. But I hope he forgot what happened at the GPF and we'll see today the real Tatsuki.
