It is not supposed to be jumping competition. Maybe we should start pushing for one (sorta like the vault in gymnastics) let the skaters that are quad masters go out and show off only doing jumps, reward them for it, celebrate it, encourage them to try harder stuff. Then for the main programs, encourage them to aim for positive GOE on all jumps rather than highest total score.
I wish they actually had this. It would add another event to the Olympics. I remember about ten years ago there was a JUMP competition but, it never took off.
Well, it's not about the quad. Going into competition and skate your best, get as many points as possible within your ability, that's normal when you want to win. If we want to limit the danger for skater, we need limitation rule from ISU (like onky 2 quads maximum for Lp). All the guys are just aiming at biggest score for themselves. To quad or not to quad that is the question in mens is it not?
I applaud Jason for NOT going with a quad and instead giving me a quality skate with the jumps he CAN do. I am so sick of people trying quads and falling on their behinds. It is dangerous for the skater and interrupts the flow of the program. If a quad is required then call it the "jumping bean contest" instead of figure skating.
So far, really enjoyed Jason (as I think we all did), but I was positively impressed artistically by both Russians... Let's see how our Italian-Russian does now![]()
They did that back in the early 2000's. It was called the "Top Jump" competition. It didn't catch on.

The biggest problem I had with Jason's program was the lack of speed, which I hope builds as he trains these programs more throughout the year. The one thing we can say is that Jason is a hard worker and has a good coach who gets him ready the right way for the big competitions. Unless he's nervous because the experience is new (Olympics) or the program is new (beginning of the season), he's VERY dependable that the next time WILL be better than the last time.
If he has a quad or doesn't, I honestly don't care. He's enjoyable to watch regardless. I hope he's doing it regularly in practice, and puts it in when he feels ready. Again, I know it's hard to draw conclusions about the quad based on his progress with the 3A, but if we can, it's that he can eventually get there (unless the quad is out of his reach.)
He will need a quad to compete for a world medal, but if he does his programs pristine, he's definitely final flight material.
Well I don't know but I wonder if judges are willing to give out 90PCS for no quad in a long, though. No one needs any one thing to compete for a world medal. All they need is a high enough score. Browns PCS really makes he quad unnecessary. Like Chan wanted to do quads he never needed one.
So what's the story? I can't remember seeing him before. He did a personal best here even with mistakes![]()
