Alexa is giving me a Buffy The Vampire Slayer vibe she looks like a really sweet girl. I wish them more luck on their next event.

It kind of confuses me that the US teams are having trouble with SBS jumps. They train at the same facility where Tom Z is based. Not a big fan of Tom Z but he could be a big asset to them from a technical standpoint on individual jumps.

Vanessa JAMES / Morgan CIPRES (FRA)

I know there were errors, but I LOVED that program! They really did not give up on the performance aspect. This is going to be amazing with some more time and polish.

After seeing the super camp of V&T's Jesus Christ Superstar FS last season, this FS is very much welcome! It had drama, but all the best kind.

Also that was a pretty solid 4S attempt. :)

I think K&S gave a good case that they're not irrelevant yet at this competition.

Yes! Exactly how I feel - I'm sooo glad they haven't retired, they are my favourite current pair. Go K/S! :)

I loved that program as well. Even with the errors it continuously held my interest. Excellent choreography!!!...One the best choreographed routines I have seen in a while..Hope they can clean it up and build during the season.

I just love K&S free program. LOVE IT!
Pity is not V&T program because it would be gorgeous to see them skate to this.

Anyway, Moskvina is back and in top form.

I don't like today's camerawork.
Why couldn't it have more space over the head, while it kept big space under the foot?
It has cut skater's heads and even lifts so often.

I've forgotten to say I love K&S’s program, and happy to see them in competition again.
That's why I am so upset with the camera, which did chopped Yuko's legs and Sasha's face.

Dance practice was great. All the couples were there. I took 2 ½ pages of notes and I'll try to turn that into something readable. I'll split this into the three groups.

Pale orangey seems to be the unofficial free dance dress color of the season.

Bonacorsi/Fioretti (ITA) were first to skate. She was wearing an orange dress, he was wearing black pants and a shirt. The theme was ballroomy with a lot of waltz. They had a nice curve lift in the beginning of the program, then waited for the second half. The (straight line) lift had nice smooth changes of position, the spin was good but a bit slow and they had a choreographic rotational lift.
Saw them do twizzles later that were on the slow side with a lot of distance between them.

Kim/Minov (KOR) skated to The Phantom of the Opera, she was in a white and blue dress, he had on an old-fashioned suit. They did some nice gestures but overall the dance could have had more emotion and drama. The twizzles were good. They struggled a little getting into the first lift, but did better when they tried it again later. They had creative positions in their spin and a rotational lift with nice changes of position.

Jones/Sharpe (GBR) skated to Mary Poppins. She was in a white dress with red “sash”. It was entertaining with many of musical theater elements and lots of faces. Nice curve lift with her standing on his thigh (they seem to be the other unofficial theme as the two couples before them had those, too). They had some trouble getting into the positions for the spin. The rotational lift with her in a split was smooth and fast. The twizzles were okay, but if I remember the rules correctly they have to cross paths while turning for the difficult variation and that didn't quite work (it was much better in a later version).

My impressions from today so far:
-big :points: to Leonova because she's been trying so hard over the last couple of years and now she's finally back! Loved her program, and for me she totally deserved her PCS, her skating is still theatrical but with a lot more refinement and maturity than her Pirates or Indian SPs; and her filp looks so much better with this entrance!
-I'm sad for Gracie but let me say that she was really overscored today: her PCS should've been even below Liza's for sure. I'm a big fan of this program, but it wasn't skated to its full potential, it lacked energy and projection, at least the PE and IN scores were way worse than both the Russians girls for me
-I don't get why Tarasova/Morozov PCS is so high: they aren't better than the Americans artistically at all
-LOVE Kavaguti/Smirnov's FS, and I wish them all the best for this season, I hope they'll be finally able to achieve something great after the disappointments of the last couple of years

Worst part of figure skating, the fact that competitors get scored on who they are and not what they do for that EVENT. By inflating scores the judges are not helping the skaters. Let them fail and they will work harder and come back stronger.

Dance practice report part two:
Also please excuse any typos/spelling mistakes/strange grammar since English is not my first language and I'm currently running on lots of coffee and half a cold pizza.

Min/Koleto (KOR) skated to the soundtrack of Triplets of Belleville, but the different pieces of music didn't seem to fit together (but they may make more sense if you see the entire program). She was in a pale orange dress, he was wearing a striped shirt. They didn't skate much of the program because there were problems with her costume coming undone in the back. The twizzles were good, but could have had a little more ice coverage. They did a nice rotational lift and a choreographic spin. I saw them do a nice fast spin later.

Reed/Rogov (ISR) skated to several pieces of music that I definitely know but can't place. The different sections did not really fit together. The costumes were black and blue and the dance had lots of drama. The twizzles seemed slow and hesitant. They did a lift with good changes of position. They had an almost fall on what I believe was a step sequence. Their (curve) lift was a little wobbly (less wobbly but with a more awkward entrance the second time around). They did a choreographic rotational lift and their spin looked good.

Paradis/Ouellette (CAN) skated in black costumes. They did a lovely rotational lift, where they were facing each other, she was upright and he held her by her knee and hand. Their curve lift was smooth. I'm not sure whether the choreographic element was supposed to be a spin or a lift it could have been either. I saw them do nice twizzles with good ice coverage and a spin that slowed a bit in the end later.

Mansour/Ceska (CZE) she was wearing a pale orange dress with a tutu-like skirt that had a strange/distracting checkered underskirt. Their spin was fast, but the last change of position looked awkward. They had a nasty fall when they got too close to the board. The lift was smooth. But it took a bit long to get in position. The rotational lift could be a bit faster. Twizzles were okay and a nice (probably choreographic) lift with him sliding on one knee.

OMFG. Gracie's skate today :bang:

FML! Gracie's scores today :disapp:

She will lose her #1 US girl status in NO TIME.

Congrats Liza, Alena, K/S and T/M! I LOVED T/M's programs. They are progressing so fast.
