2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

I only have 1 allegiance ;)
and I will stick with it

Gracie has a bright future ahead of her

Wow. I for sure thought you would have called her a headcase for that fall, and still having the inability to string together two clean programs.

Gotta love your brunette headcase winning gold and your meal ticket not even medalling.

And say what you want about Kaetlyn... Osmond has an Olympic silver medal and Gold only has a bronze.

Also from Brennan (USA Today columnist):

One more judging note: the RUS judge, Alla Shekhovtseva, is married to the RUS skating federation president. I am not making this up.

OK, Scott and Sandra...can't wait for you to say how the judges got everything right.

Kaetlyn didn't finish in Top 10
so I gues they are even ;)

honestly but overall, next quad Gracie I think is the full package

I guess it's time for me to stop following women's figure skating. With Yuna/Mao gone there isn't really anyone else for me to follow.

I was worried that I have no one to support for the next 4 years but I don't think I will need to find one given what happened today. It was great following the sport but think I will stick to only watching Men's now as I at least have Yuzuru Hanyu to look forward to.

Same here. After Mao and Yuna (and V/M for me) retire, I'll only support Yuzuru.

Other disgusting facts..

Adelina also got higher goe's for her jumps than Carolina and Yuna! It is almost unvelieble how she managed how to have better jumping qualities than Yuna and Carolina(two of the best jumpers I have ever seen).

Let's see:

-2A+3T

Adelina: 2A+3T 8.14 x +1.80 9.94
Carolina: 2A+3T 7.40 +1.30 8.70
Gracie: 2A+3T 7.40 +1.30 8.70

I really think Carolina and Gracie had better 2A+3T, considering that Adelina had a very bad and awkward landing position in her 2A. She had a lean. Her back was kinda stiff.

-3S

Adelina: 3S 4.62 x +1.20 5.82
Carolina: 3S 4.62 x +1.10 5.72
Yuna: 3S 4.62 x +0.90 5.52

Both Carolina and Yuna had better salchows than Adelina.

Now, the things start to be even more ridiculous...

-3F

Adelina: 3F 5.30 +1.50 6.80
Carolina: 3F 5.30 +1.20 6.50
Kim: 3F 5.30 +1.20 6.50

Really? Caro and Kim have better flips than Adelina.

-2A

Adelina: 2A 3.63 x +1.07 4.70
Kim: 2A 3.63 x +0.79

She was also overscored in the step sequence...

She got more goe for her footwork than Mao. Mao's Rach's footwork is gorgeous.

Not just the HUGE bump in Adelina's PCS but it also shows in her GOE scores. Don't get me wrong, I think the top 3 skaters tonight did wonderfully but I think at least 2 judges had ulterior motives. Totally unfair to the skaters.

You are entitled to your opinion, and so am I (sorry, not a native English speaker). I just want to say, while many of you think Adelina's programs is bad, there are people out there do think she deserves it. I live in East Asia, in my country there has never been snow, only typhoon, lol, so watching these event is like a dream because it would never happen in my country. That's why I do believe I am neutral enough about this matter. Of course, it's just my opinion. It's just your reasons for bashing Adelina's program are not enough to convince me. That's all.

If you enjoyed the performance, great. But in terms of the program, no, this program was terrible. Carmen was a bit better. How do you explain Adelina acting like she's pulling on strings at the beginning of her FS? What does it mean? Is she a puppet?

Some are saying Mao should have been placed above Gracie and Julia. Sorry, but Mao lost it in the short program and also I believe the tech judges were pretty generous with some of her jumps.

Also from Brennan (USA Today columnist):

One more judging note: the RUS judge, Alla Shekhovtseva, is married to the RUS skating federation president. I am not making this up.

So judges don't have a right to private life? Every judge obviously has personal connections to their federation.

So much emotional night. Heartbreaking performance from Mao. I cried with you.
Adios YuNa, you are a true Champion.

I felt Mao Asada really stole the show tonight with her wonderful performance. her PCS was definitely the best out of all the skaters. in a fair world , she would have gotten the bronze.

an explanation of PCS:

The program components score (PCS) awards points to holistic aspects of a program or other nuances that are not rewarded in the total element score. The components are:

Skating skills (SS) reward use of edges and turns, flow over the ice surface, speed and acceleration, ice coverage, clean and controlled curves, multi-directional skating, and mastery of one-foot skating (no overuse of skating on two feet).
Transitions (TR)
Performance/Execution (PE)
Choreography (CH)
Interpretation (IN)

---

there is no way in hell that the 2 Russians were better than Yuna for PCS.. nor Mao for that matter.

The judging has been a travesty.

Kim was very clearly extremely disappointed and unhappy and she didn't even particularly try to hide it.

I thought Yu-Na kept her disappointment together very well in the Kiss & Cry, although it was awkward when she stood up to wave at the audience, which was cheering because Adelina had won gold, which Yu-Na realized soon after. The audience, for the most part, was unbelievably disgusting.

Yu-Na was pretty poised on the podium, and I thought she was gracious and hid any sad feelings well. I heard she was emotional when coming off the ice, but none of us know what went through her head--is it because this was her last competition of her career? Is it because she "only" won the silver? I don't know.

She's already given a post-competition interview and she had nothing negative to say whatsoever.

Yeah, ok, Elvis Stojko in NYT and Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. For once Terry was the one bringing up the controversial judging. Enough with trying to whitewash everything. This was rigged against them from the start. Poor Yuna and Carolina. More people of high authority need to speak out...past champions, national federations.

From USA Today: American skating insiders question Sochi judging

SOCHI, Russia -- One of the nine judges who picked a young Russian skater over two more refined competitors for the Olympic gold medal Thursday night was suspended for a year for trying to fix an event at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano.

And another is the wife of the president of the Russian figure skating federation.

Inflated scores for the Russians has been a topic of conversation at these Olympic Games, and the women's figure skating long program Thursday night renewed the debate. Adelina Sotnikova of Russia was the surprising winner of the gold medal, upsetting reigning Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim of South Korea and Italy's Carolina Kostner.

"It's sad that I just presumed Sotnikova was going to get a boost (in points) because this was in Russia," former U.S. Olympic figure skating coach Audrey Weisiger said in a phone interview. "Isn't it sad that I automatically thought that? Not one person in skating I've talked to said that's the way it should have gone."

"I was surprised with the result," Joseph Inman, a top international judge who was on the women's panel at the 2002 Olympics, said in a telephone interview.

"The (judging) panel made me wish that the United States and Canada had split up into many different countries," said choreographer Lori Nichol, who works with Kostner and fourth-place finisher Gracie Gold of the United States, among others.

Judges from the United States and South Korea, as well as two other Western judges, were not chosen by draw to work the women's long program after being on the women's short program panel the night before. Two of their replacements were Ukrainian Yuri Balkov, who was kicked out of judging for a year after being tape-recorded trying to fix the Nagano ice dancing competition by a Canadian judge, and Alla Shekhovtseva, a Russian judge who is married to the Russian federation's president. Other Eastern Europeans were on the panel as well.

Goodbye figure skating I am so sick and tired of this sport but was holding on due to some amazing skaters but I really think this is the end after 2002 I almost lost interest but the disgusting judging today once again shows yes I am out.
