2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

They just showed Ashley's FS again on NBC and I was watching with the protocols on my computer. I don't get the GOE calls on her lutz or her flip-toe-toe combo at all given the other GOE calls for people with similar landings (she got pretty big negatives on both).

Oh well I'm not a judge.

Wagner has a pretty bad flutz and she landed forwards and may have two footed her first combo. I'm not even sure why she went for the triple triple given her issues with it. A triple double with positive exec would have netted her more points. Wagoners jumps aren't that good and her spins have deteriorated. She was the weakest jumper and only an average spinner compared to all the rest of the final group. If she plans to go until 2018 as she states she has a lot of work to do cause in two years she may not be able to get onto even the 4CC team with her content.

She was the best American lady at any given international event for 2 years,
She deserved to go, Mirai not so much.

Ashley's FS today on Olympic ice got better scores then Mirai's on National ice,
What does that prove ?
That the judges didn't want Moirai to finish higher so they'd be forced to boot Polina off the Olympic team. Kind of hard to leave a silver medalist off the team.

Yuna, I am proud of you!
I am happy she gave two beautiful performances.

Congratulations to Adelina & Caro. The 3 at the podium all were clean or near clean at both SP&LP. OMG. :)

PS) And Dick Button(who am not a fan of Yuna skating)‘s praise for Yuna was an added pleasure to me. :)

“Yuna charming here subjective elements in the component scores ( the artistry) were outstanding……“

Umm, I know others have said it, but it is RIDICULOUS that neither Adelina or Julia got edge calls on their lutzes! You can't just blame the tech committee either, because the judges gave them positive GOE.

Meanwhile, the American and Japanese ladies all got dinged for their lutz and flip edge issues.

I am all for the 'e' rule, but USE IT CORRECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This issue alone is proof of the corruption, since the edges are objective, not subjective.

Also, Adelina's 3-3 was definitely short on the toe loop. :sarcasm: No underrotation called? ***?

Kostner's jumps in some places looked scratchy. Yu-na got higher GOE for her lutz. and her Adelina were almost tied on the 3flip.

In terms of the 3salchow, many have commented that Kim's 3sal is not a particularly great jump for her. And there's the notes between the New York Times between Yu-na's easy double axel/2toe and Adelina double axel/3toe. Not only easier but said it was an easy entrance. Adelina has the best double axel/3toe in the world.

Once again both Kim and Sotnikova are going to get high GOE on the jumps. However Sotnikova is also going to get high GOE on her spins.

I think you mean Yuna's 3salchow/2toe, easy for Yuna.

Watched again on NBC: Kim is simply breathtaking! Those expressive hands and fingers, shoulders, eyes, head movement…… one of the best program ever! In comparison, the Russian girl is “laughable”------yes, my family and I could not help laughing when she twice waived the crowd to clap for her, like saying “come on, come on, clap for me, to boost my score!”

If Mao get get the same non-call on her flutz she could have won the OGM without so many triple axels and high risk elements.

She used to have very high consistency on her flutzes before she had to remove them due to mandatory 'e" rule.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought edge calls weren't relevant for GOE. The flutz looked great to me! Also I get the first combo. It was the tr flip dou toe dou toe I didn't understand. But maybe it was an obvious two footer. Ya got me. I'm comparing it to Lupnitskaya's and don't see much of a difference but I'm no judge.

Ashley should retire. She likely won't make the 2018 Olympics.

The controversy would likely continue. I mean I wish Yuna won gold but she didn't, I wish Adelina won with less of a point difference but she didn't. Either way it's done.

What I'm thinking about now is how many very good amazing skaters we're going to lose after this Olympic season. Yuna, Mao, Akiko, Carolina, Daisuke, Nobu, Jeremy (whatever you may think of him), Joubert, Plushenko. I feel like this is the last of the old guard that I rooted for before and the figure skating world is going to be a lot less bright without them.

Like we don't wanna die enough right now

But yeah, I fear for next season

If there was no Team Event, I think Yulia may be on the podium. I think after the Team Event, there was too much pressure for her to win.

I think we can safely say this Olympic did not earn figure skating many new fans. From the men's splatfest to this disaster, the sport has already seen a lot of rough times in recent years and it did not get any boost from these competitions. Even the skaters that general people have a mild interest in (Yuna, Mao, Plushy) are done after this.

I just realized that Julia got a 200+ score with two flawed programs that included two falls. Ugh.

That petition is getting about 10,000 signatures a minute,

Does it stop at a million ? cause it's almost there

Just to compare, After US nationals there was a petition to send Mirai to Olympics on the same website,
It now stands on a little less than 5,500 people

Now I know why Sochi was the most expensive Olympics, and it ain't about the buildings.

Mao made me cry...I think she made a lot of commentators cry. Her performance was better than a Gold medal.

Points aside, what an interesting and unexpected Olympics. I feel bad for athletes with this scoring system, you really just have to depend on your country being the host of the OG.

honestly.. it was between julia vs adelina.. if julia didn't fell..

and by the way.. once again the audience was horrible.. but what else is new??
