2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

This sentence makes as much sense as me saying, if you know figure skating, you cannot say that last night, Kim's jumps were better than Sotnikova's. They weren't, and the replays like the one featured in the NYTimes showed.

This is what I disliked about Kim ubers, they state an absolute without backing, just declare that if you don't think Kim is better, then you don't know anything.

Like I said, BACK IT UP.

I don't know if at the NEXT competition, if Kim will skate better or worse than Sotnikova, but last night, Sotnikova was better, and I agreed with the judges and the NYTimes writer.

Every competition is open to all, thank god.

But don't you know Kim's the absolute best on everything.

I just realized that Julia got a 200+ score with two flawed programs that included two falls. Ugh.

Totally agree. This is the thing that really upsets me the most. These scores were in no way deserved. People who believe that everything was fair and square in this competition and accuse others of Russiaphobia, please, look objectively at these scores and then tell me they were fair like this. No way. Never!

Also, one cannot compare the Men's competition to this here. The SP and LP of the Men was much more worse in quality. Here the top skaters were clean in both segments. Adelina had a mistake. I think she would've been happy with silver. I mean a SILVER medal at the Olympics, would that have been so bad? I feel sorry for her, really because now she has to live with the expectations of an Olympic Champion and I'm not sure if she is ready for that.

You are delusional. Kim's jumps are high and got distance enough to get GOE. flow in the ladning. straight back in landing. effortless.
perfect air position. her flip and lutz is textbook.
Adelina's flutz. not much flow like kim.

The article showed how Sotnikova beat Kim by describing how Sotnikova's elements were more difficult than Kim's, jumps were better executed, good height, distance and flow compared to Kim's, and thus deserved higher scores. Kim still beat Sotnikova for PCS, lost to her in TES.

Oh God. Didn't you see the pictures in this article? Why Yunas in that picture is wider than Sotnikova? Yuna's jump was higher and longer. Also she has speed! Everybody knew that Adelina wouldn't win this competition when both deliver clean programs. I don't care about just one article. Actually this article is just ridiculous and didn't explain why Adelina got good score. Just pretended to explain about this weird resault. I'd rather beleive what Katarina or Dick or other figure skaters said. I was a figure skating fan over ten years. There were a lot of disappointing moments but it is the worst.

Yu-na's base value in SP: 31.43
Sot's in SP: 30.43

Yu-na's in LP: 57.49
Sot's in LP: 61.43

Yu-na's Combined BV: 88.92
Sot's Combined BV:91.86

Total Difference : 2.94.......

Sot won by GOE's.....

And this is including the fact that Yu-na got Lvl 3's on her step sequences for both the SP and LP.

Those who are saying Sot's difficulty is way higher are WRONG.

Well, you do not know figure skating at all.. do you. Kim is retiring. :ohwell:

But don't you know Kim's the absolute best on everything.

Actually, that rabid fan attitude hurts Kim more than anything. How can Kim ever deign to improve and fight harder if the crown is ordained hers? If Kim is surrounded by sycophants, she will never up her game.

And...you just lost all credibility right there.

I was annoyed with Kim coming to this event, And was rooting for Mao to beat her at 2010,

But at the face of what happend yesterday i had to stop and be realistic,

Don't insulte us as figure skating fans,
And don't insulte our inteligence.

Kurt Browning after the FP

"DId you see the look on her face when she found out that she didn't win?It was calm. It was peaceful. This is somebody who is totally aware of how lucky they are she came with as much goal to win and to literally help figure skating in her country So when she says those words, it's kinda hard to believe COme on, you want to winBut when you see her face, you know she spoke the truth,True sportsman, a humanitarian, and a great leader in our world"

Finally read the NYT article that qwertyskates has been quoting...
The article is not evidence for anything, it simply lays out the scores that we already know and generic explanations for why one score would be higher than other, e.g. "high marks for good flow, height and distance".. I mean duh what else do you look for in a jump

I kind of assumed, Since qwertyskates was pretty evasive about it.

I still would like to see it though, Got the link ?

I agree. I read the NYT articles but none is an evidence that Sotnikova was better than Kim.

First of all, to all posters, I'd appreciate some civility, please don't insult with "delusional", etc.

Look CAREFULLY at the pictures, Sotnikova's isn't shorter in distance, her jump was portrayed in an ARC, the distance traveled are similar, if not longer in Sotnikova's 2A.

Also, look at the LANDING POSITIONS. Sotnikova has more flow out.

How do you argue then that Kim has a more difficult spin?

This is why it is meaningless to file online petitions, rabid fans don't even look at the evidence with an open mind.

"Everyone KNOWS" the results, already, seriously? Doesn't this sound like a rigged competition?

No, I disagree, NOBODY knows until the night of the skating, when skaters are pitted side by side. Kim hasn't skated at an international competition alongside these same skaters this year until tonight. Scores across competitions are helpful in determining the quality category of the skaters, but it is only at the same competition that scores are justly compared.

Oh, we are happy indeed. And karma is exactly what you said - Slutskaya robbed, Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze humiliated by the second OGM awarded to that mediocre Canadian couple, and now finally we get a reward for all that c**p. Fair and square.

I agree. I read the NYT articles but none is an evidence that Sotnikova was better than Kim.

This is why we can't take you Kim ubers seriously.

Oh, and I smell some newly minted "Russian" trolls...wow, the online army is truly mobilized.

How Sotnikova Beat Kim, Move by Move

The scores for Adelina Sotnikova and Kim Yu-na were close for most of their long program elements. But Sotnikova took a significant lead in a few areas. Adam Leib, a coach and national technical specialist for U.S. Figure Skating, analyzes the performances. FEB. 20, 2014

This is someone who puts his reputation on the line, who has gone through the competition with a fine-toothed comb. I agree with him because I witnessed the same last night.

Yes, I would take weird views of anonymous internet posters over the opinion of a technical specialist published in a reputed newspapers, right.
