If the other top ladies screw up enough and Julia deserves to win, then good for her. But the overscoring is ridiculous. If there's another judging debacle that let's a 9 year old win it will probably kill the sport internationally for a generation or two.

I agree with this kind of scoring, only Yuna has the possibility of beating Julia. The bonus Julia gets is toooo much.

Kostner got the highest PCS already
Can't agree more. Julia was good, I know it, but something was empty. I really can't find any reason that Carolina was beaten by Julia. I mean Julia's PCS... Is that really possible? 33.5??? It's too high at least for me. And is there someone who thinks that Julia's first 3Lz was actually 3Flutz? I mean she's got edge call on her 3lz and sometimes even on her 3F in GF & Euro of this season. Suddenly there is no edge deduction at all on her jumps at this competiton. What happened to the Tech specialists?
Anyway, Carolina was awesome. 27 years old lady shows her maturity, great skating skill, feeling to the music and beautiful body movements from beginning to end in this short program. Hope she will finally do the clean FS.
Yes 1 stupid point of difference in the protocols but the reality is that there is an abysm between them in pcs.

I feel sorry for Mao but I think she is lucky she had two under rotations so she could have been dropped further - better now than later.

Julia was overscored. Maybe it's my opinion, but her program didn't have anything special. It was a clean program, but nothing more.
The ladies competition will be very interesting this time. I can't wait to see Yuna. The difference between her and Julia is so obvious that the judges can't do anything. Carolina looked great today and she's one of the favorites for a medal. I wish Asada will fix her problems with the axel.

She didn't get any edge deductions for her flip. She is sometimes did get (GPF, Europeans) but she sometimes didn't get (SC and COR) for lutz. Again I'm saying her lutz is not that bad and most of times judges didn't even deducted GOE.

Carolina will do better in the individual besides Julia may be spending all she has here.

I have never been a huge Carolina fan but that was fantastic. Even Kurt Browinng was practically speechless at how good she was. I could hear the audience and they felt the same way.
Julia did a more difficult routine but the jumps looked so much smaller I was shocked at her score. It was too high like in Yu-Na territory which without Yu-Na's amazing jumps was undeserved. I am really nervous now for the ladies. Like Plushy her PCS's were too high for what they delivered. Still kudos to her for holding up under the pressure.
I felt for Mao. She is a terrific skater but the triple axle is both her best friend and her enemy. I wonder if Kozuka not being here is also not helping. When someone is urging you on it makes a big difference.
I thought Katelyn should have been above Ashley as well but I won't argue to much. Ashley did a good job.

It seems the judges decided not to give level4 any skater. Carolina and Mao got only 3.
Julia's that 3Lz-3T got 1.4 GOE. What a joke. It makes me wonder how they'll score Yuna and Gracie's same jump.

So much crying here... And it's basically the same set of posters that do it in every other thread, Lol.
Put things into perspective... Julia does not need to win PCS to beat Kostner. She simply needs to skate cleanly, and she can beat her fair and square. That's the advantage of being a more technically proficient skater - this is a SPORT, not the Bolshoi or Met.
Kostner is at a deficit in TES vs. this girls. This isn't just about jumps. It's also about spins where Julia is wildly superior and her StSq are decent as well. There simply isn't enough ground for Kostner to make up in PCS to beat her. The judges would have to throw out a bunch of 10s to give Kostner the type of point advantage posters here want, while they ignore how weak she is in jumping and spinning compared to someone like Lipnitskaya.
Julia is a small girl. No one is expecting her to bang out Yuna Kim or Gracie Gold-type jumps. There aren't even that many ladies figure skaters who can jump that high, so I don't see what the issue is. She rotates fast and leaves no doubt as to her rotations on the landings. Clearly she is doing *something* right? It's like people who complained about Lipinski's smaller jumps. What do you expect... She wasn't a Slutskaya who you can clearly see who a more sturdily/stronger built individual... Sarah Hughes has nothing to do with this. Hughes was no Lipinski or Lipnitskaya. She has '<' on half the jumps she did in SLC and the judges would have murdered her. Also, had the judges put Slutskaya in 1st after the SP - like they SHOULD HAVE - we wouldn't have to live with Hughes' "forgettable" win.
Julia is consistent and does some of the hardest content in the world. What more can you ask for? If she jumped any higher, she'd be overrotating everything... What she lacks in quality in the jumping (Height and Distance, namely) she makes up for with Quantity (BV) and Consistency.
I'm pretty sure the judges are looking at things a bit more objectively than most here...

The people who are still bitter about SLC will eventually die off (no offense), but a lot of the younger skaters and spectators don't even remember SLC. Lipnitskaya was like 5-6 years old in 2002. She barely remembers Irina Slutskaya, if at all. All the bigger "older folk" who move on will be replaced by a younger crowd who do not carry the same burdens and bitterness. Skating dropped off because people got tired of watching cheese fests and stupid "Ice Wars" every other day. Some people here probably don't know what it was like 15 years ago with all that, but it was unbearable to the point that it made you throw up in your mouth a little everytime "anything figure skating" came on television. And we certainly weren't running to book tickets to competitions.

WOW This protocol just sums it up. Judging is EXTREMELY inconsistent. You can tell some judges really favor certain skaters or not. This is disgusting.

You contradict yourself so many times in this post. You say it's a sport, not ballet, but then you say "Julia is so small, what do you expect?" Uh...if she's at a physical disadvantage to the other skaters, and cannot jump as high, don't you think that lack of sporty athleticism should be reflected in her score? According to your own logic?
