Can someone explain to me why Ross got ZERO points for his 2S? I thought the new rule was only for single jumps?

'...is to Gladiator, and I really come out strong with a fire in my belly.'

Thanks, BG.

ack!! fall on the footwork for Max! loved the good-natured smile on his face about it though. Seemed like he just got so caught up in the dance-y part of it.

Love the hair. Love that he's also 'grown out' his eyebrows. Great program for him. You can tell he's having fun with it! I kinda wish he had a more 'Footloose' themed costume. But maybe this isn't the final costume.

And I'm glad that you love Max's hair. :yay:

I have to say that I love the way the Icenetwork website lays out the judges' protocols! I think it's much more intuitive than the regular ISU layout. Hope it catches on in larger competitions.

IJS tweak means no credit for a single double jump so @RossMiner's double Salchow -- he was trying a quad -- gained 0 points here. #SLC2014

I'm glad that Max got the highest PCS score as well as TES.

His 2014 and 2013 SLC SP scores for comparison:

2014 // 78.96 = 41.01 + 38.95 - 1.00 deduction

2013 // 81.49 = 44.57 + 36.92 - 0.00 deduction

Excuse me here. Hanson is NOT a boyband. They're a BAND. They're still making music. Their newer music is SO much better than their old music. They're independent artists now. And they still have loyal fans. I've been a fan of Hanson for almost 3 years and I don't regret a single day of it.

They are NOT rubbish. Sorry. It's just that I get super offended when that is said in my face.

Sorry that I'm snappy about that. But I get defensive over them.

And you don't understand why I get the membership for Hanson.net.

Okay. Sorry about that.

I'm with you. Our hobbies are a part of who we are and if folks trash our interests, they are somehow trashing us.
I used to have to defend my interest in skating (a lot), so I understand where you are coming from.

It's OK. We all have our own interests that we enjoy. I certainly don't expect people to understand my love for Korean dramas and K-pop despite NOT being Korean.

I agree with golden411 that perhaps a part-time job for fun stuff would be a good idea. :D That's how I paid for things when I was in collage.

You guys will be like :bang: when I say this. I don't have my drivers license. I know I'm so bad. I'm scared of driving. I did have a summer job. And I used to work on the weekends at my synagogue for religious school, but this year I decided not to do it because my workload for college will be more this year.

I'm such a loser I know.

Admirable that for the sake of your parents, you are judicious with expenditures.

Might you be able to get a part-time job to earn pocket money for skating and other interests?

Fans of your age are good for the future of the sport.

Oh I just saw this now! Lol.

That doesn't make you a loser at all! I know plenty of people who didn't get their driver's license well into their 20s (including my cousins).

Driving is overrated, honestly. It means paying for gas and insurance, which would mean even less money for your parents, LOL.

Home from competition. No one looked great. Max deserved 1st but that program has a long way to go to be anywhere near what footloose should be. Ross landed a nice quad earlier - too bad about the pop. Murakami struggled in the warm-up - not surprised about his problems in the performance. I am happy he landed the salchow.

Pairs was very spotty. I am happy for Calalang/Sidhu.

For those who have expressed concern about the rough performances - don't worry. It's the beginning of the season. I get much more concerned these days over those who look like they could win Nationals right now. It's almost impossible to sustain that kind of edge and preperation.

Random notes

- spotted a couple that looked familiar. Took me a while to realize it was Hartshorn and Sweiding.

- Aaron family sat behind us during Max's performance. Mrs. Aaron is enthusiastic about clapping along to Footloose.

- The highlight off the ice was the 2-year-old boy who danced at the bottom of the stands in between the skaters. He was great and made our evening.

Oh - PS, we were told that Marai would practice a 3axel in the practice session but not for her program. She did try one at the very end. Stood it up, but it wasn't all the way around and she landed cross foot.

Separate post-SP interview videos (plus additional text quotes) from all Team USA skaters (each pair and each man) are here:

Alexa Scimeca/Chris Knierim (USA) – 49.00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTbdsJ1vyxY (1:37)
Madeline Aaron/Max Settlage (USA) – 48.16 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrmFAlsYy4 (0:49)

Max Aaron (USA) – 78.96 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3jNkIVEeUI (1:03)
Ross Miner (USA) – 67.06 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xCYtcrkQ5s (0:31)
Douglas Razzano (USA) – 66.15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHE2gc2yAWM (0:47)
Jordan Moeller (USA) – 64.21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL7htAjtZ0Y (0:33)

And a fun fact from the blog above:
Tonight marked the first time in ISU history that the pairs technical panel (controller, specialist & asst. specialist) are all women.

...
- Aaron family sat behind us during Max's performance. Mrs. Aaron is enthusiastic about clapping along to Footloose. ....

Thx for all your notes, AHB -- esp. your sweet observation re Mrs. Aaron.
The Aarons must be very proud/excited that both Maddie (with Max S.) and Max A. are competing in SLC this year.

ETA, a great photo of Maddie and her father at the SLC Classic. #SideBySideKneeling #StrongUnison

Not a good performance by Ross Miner. Anyone have any theories on why he can't seem to bring it in competition anymore? So sad, i love his skating.

He said he didn't commit to the quad. This may have happened in the past, as well. The jump isn't perfect in practice but he certainly lands it.

Right but I don't know why the entire element was invalidated. Typically if you don't meet the requirement you get -3 GOE across the board.

The Hanson fan has it right. There are also big changes in spin features causing some consternation -- a back entrance isn't enough to qualify as "difficult"; it has to have another factor, for example a split jump or falling leaf, preceding it to count.

Re driving. My neighbor's son is 27, just got his license this year, and has never owned a car. He just finished his PhD in aeronautical engineering at MIT. He has paid for most of his education himself and starts his great, new job soon with no student loans. No car=less expense=big win.

And for new icenetwork users, the On Demand feature works really well. karne, if you want to watch Max's program over, it will be there.
