I'm in the dark about what's actually happening here with no feed but I'm not surprised to hear that Polina is laying it down. Her programs at Glacier Falls were very impressive.

Edmunds didn't get any calls (edge or underrotation) but she lost levels on her layback and step sequence.
Very clean and nice protocol from Kato!
Hicks good GOE as well (except for the axel).. not a fan of her skating though so won't comment on PCS
Too bad about Nagasu's combo -- the rest of her skate got good GOEs, but she also lost quite a few levels on the combo spin and step sequence! (So those of you who missed her old step sequence, you should probably expect some changes here)

Seems so weird to see so many invalids in the protocols. But at least the elements are named in the ladies, the dance protocols say "unknown" under the executed elements column. Wouldn't that make it a bit difficult to judge? haha

Very revealing. Mirai got hammered with her jump combo for singling her planned triple. As a result she only got credit for the flip and then got -2.1 goe. Rough go for her. Had she even doubled the toe, her points for the combo might have gone up at least 3.4 points. She also had troubles with her combo spin, it was only rated a level two and only got a base value of 1.8, compared to the 3.5 awarded to Polina.
Polina had the highest PCS of the night but not too far ahead of Mirai who got higher scores for Skating Skills and Interpretation.
It ultimately seems PCS is what kept Polina's score down only getting a 27.96, which is lower than what she scored at both the Olympics and Worlds last year. However, her TES was much higher and 63.27 is easily the best score she's received internationally in the short program. Does this competition count towards official IJS scores? I'm assuming it does since it's part of the Challenger Series.
If Courtney hadn't popped her axel and gotten zero points for it she's probably be in second right now with a 62+ score. But still even with that, if this is an official scoring event this will also be a personal best for Courtney.

Mirai needs to bring back the original choreography. Her PCS potential would be higher. The jumps looked springy and strong. It's a shame about the whoops on the combo. Did y'all see those beautiful 3f/3t's in warm up!?
Polina is so cool headed and steady. I still don't think she's all that interesting to watch, but she's improved over last season. I hope Gracie is getting her act together because she is not much of an artist, and with Polina's consistency there wont be room for her to make errors.

Yup. Not to mention she would've gotten better scaling GOE (do they still do that?) with a level 4 (which she almost always gets on her combo, she probably didn't hold positions long enough as it stated she only had two positions counted) spin and at least level 3 step sequence. Add that to the ~3.4 points from a 3-2 combo and she would've cleared 60 (with a 3-2!)...
^Yeah very true! Does the higher GOE scaling apply to spins? I thought that was just for footwork. Mirai actually scored over a point higher on her loop than Polina did for her flip. I'm not too surprised though because she had a pretty difficult entrance going into it, and Polina had almost no footwork immediately before from what I could see. I was wondering if they were going to ding Mirai for the combo spin because it looked like she kind of struggled hitting the camel position right away.

Anyone else watching the pairs event? I thought that Madeline and Max did a nice job. I actually really like the style of this team. I have to admit though, when I was watching the Shall We Dance part I kept thinking how much this music is perfect for Ice Dance.
Not sure if they popped their first throw or not, on the whole they struggled with their jumps, but for an early season comp I thought it was still strong.
