2014 Worlds - Ladies Short Program

She wouldn't get scored anymore for it if she did. Which is sad but probably the main reason. I'd love another 11 sec spiral out of her like the Kung Fu Panda one.

No I think she will. It's not about the element per se, it's about artistry as well.
I absolutely agree with kwanatic. A sustained move like that spiral but not only, even the hand movement, and the sustained jumps makes a lot of difference in the overall quality of a performance.

@skatedreamer:

For extreme cases, there's always :bang:

I guess so.
Cheers.

Anna is a newbie. Don't forget this is her debut senior season and her first trip to senior worlds. Unlike Julia (this is also her first trip to worlds) she doesn't have a GPF medal/Euro title/OGM to back her up coming into this competition. This is still figure skating...that means she'll have to pay her dues. If she can nail her FS, her scores will be a little higher.

It's true and her score is really a good score when I think of it. No one knew what was still to come when she took over the lead. I wasn't thinking of Julia exactly when I made that statement, sorry if you got that impression. It just seems like a low placing for what Anna did in the end. I don't think this being her first Worlds should have anything to do with it, look at Machida. The Newbie factor is what it is though, you're right. A lot of people will probably deny this, but I think not looking like a little girl make lot of people forgot that she is Julia's age and her performance was awe inspiring for a girl that young. I hope she has a long career.

Alba - Anna skates to the Pirates of the Carribbean Soundtrack. But not the well known theme it is a mermaid inspired program.

Agreed. People take for granted how beautiful a sustained move can be. If she held it for just a second longer it has a much better overall effect. Same thing goes for extended/sustained landings...I love to see a skater hold an edge after a jump for a few seconds.

Yes!!! Michelle used to do that so beautifully -- it was such a joy to watch, as were her spirals.

Thanks. :)

Anna looks very mature indeed. I can't belive she's just 15, and beautiful as well which doesn't hurt.

Julia's jumps did look more athletic than ever and had nice flow. I agree with people that her weakness is still PCs. Her choreography and footwork sequences look extremely rote, and not particularly well timed with the music---despite her amazing positions (I love the twizzle Y-pose thing that she does). That is where someone like Ashley Wagner deservedly picks up PCS point. Yulia looks like she's doing gestures, like a ballet robot or something. She needs to feel the music more.

Well, I'd say if "judge founds performer #1 more impressive than other performer in the average of five aspects of program components: skating skills, transition, execution, choreography and interpretation", it basically means the judge founds performer #1 skating better(cleaner) than other performer.

But hey, that's just me and my poor man's logic. ;)

No, it means Murakami's skating skills, transitions, choreography, interpretation, and presentation/execution were better and since judges typically tie PCS to SS, Murakami has better SS than Pogorilya.

I Lol'd when the crowd cheered right after her StSeq. I love the girl but apparently the fans there do so even more than me

If doing all triples seems like stagnating they could try to do more combos like lutz half loop salchow. Triple axel or quad is the next step but three triple combos?

To be honest I just want Mao to win this thing and don't care that much about what happens to 2-24. ;) If Mao decides to call it a day she should go out with another World Title and leave Sochi behind so that her regrets will be less and no "what if's" will be in her mind for the rest of her life. That's why I think this title would be the most important to her. Caro seems in a place where she is free and happy no matter if she wins or is 10th. Julia is just beginning. This is why I vote for Mao and hope she skates her best on Saturday.

Is Adelina commenting the Competition for Russia Chanel 1?Because the voice of the female sounds very much like her.
