Well, the ability to have a coach at a high level isn't really so open... someone more familiar with the Russian system can probably explain it better but my understanding is that in Russia the coach is pretty much 'responsible for' his or her skaters, and they can choose to stop being responsible for skaters who seem to have no more real potential. So really, it's hard to find a coach as a senior if you don't have high level potential... it's not like in the USA where if you can pay for a coach, no matter how crappy you are, some coach will agree to coach you and you can go to Regionals (assuming you've passed your tests) even if you finish dead last there. So it's not so open because to have a coach at that level is much more selective already in a sense. But if I am talking nonsense or wrong, I truly do hope someone more knowledgable will correct me.
 
Junior Pairs. Pretty much all the TOP pairs are there, only Borisova/Sopot are not. Gubanova/Sintsov were 10th!

1. Atakhanova/Spiridonov 56.80
2. Mishina/Mirzoev 55.72
3. Ustimkina/Volodin 55.68
4. Molchanova/Sozonenko 51.10
5. Poluianova/Korotkov 50.52
7. Ivanova/Khakimov 47.08
10. Gubanova/Sintsov 44.44
 
Why was Atakhanova/Spiridonov taken off the result sheet? Three pairs were taken off. Gubanova/Sintsov and Poluyanova/Korotkov too.

You're right, plus I forgot you need the official levels: MC, KMC - but what happens, when there's more than 18 or 24 applications (RusCup MC and KMC limits according to this)?

Don't know but all three pairs will skate at the JGPF next week. So, they might have wanted to skate only SP but it doesn't explain why their results were taken off.

It's too bad they had rough skates at the JGP in Lake Placid (altitude, nerves?) because they've skated very well in the Russian Cup series and certainly seem stronger than Poluianova/Korotkvo and Gubanova/Sintsov, and maybe even Borisova/Sopot.

Ustimkina/Volodin have done pretty well throughout this season too. Interestingly, they also messed up their JGP event, but have been getting decent scores at internal competitions since. I am really curious what the outcome of the junior nationals will be and who will get sent to junior worlds. It looks that Tiukova/Tiukov have a lot of work ahead if they want their teams to keep up.

They very well could if their placement is determined at junior nationals. International judges haven't given them that high of a score yet, but it seems like domestic judges love them. They can do both 3T and 3S, and the only other Russian pairs team that can do that is Atakhanova/Spiridonov. My guess for junior Worlds is both of those pairs plus the best of Ustimkina/Volodin, Gubanova/Sintsov, Borisova/Sopot, and Poluianova/Korotkov.

Mishina/Mirzoev is already at the top of pairs skating; heck, they attempted a 3T-3T combination (although underrotated)! They just need to polish up many aspects of their skating: improving speed, extension, unison, etc...

I think international judges would have scored them higher if they'd been able to skate clean though... I think they are better than most of Russia's other junior teams for reasons others have already stated,
 
Anna Tarusina- you're best! 180.51 and the next win! It seems that Davydov and Kotin have got their first star :)
