2015-16 Russian Test skates

Overall, it looked like most of the women were still getting used to their programs, which is why we saw slow skating and hesitancy with the jumps. There isn't a clear frontrunner in the ladies field in Russia, but most of the top women look like they could be ready by the time the GP series starts. Julia looked great in practice and Liza will hit her jumps once she is comfortable with her programs. Adelina is a bit of a question mark because her lutz still looks iffy, but her skating is a bit more refined than her peers in the test skate.

Wasnt Adelina supposed to compete this weekend in a Russian Cup event? If so I bet she'll skip it. She has become so injury prone these days..... it's really sad to see.

I don't see what you are talking about. This is only the test skates for the Russian national team, not real competitions, in which a majority of russian skaters did very well at this early stage. It seems that "sloppy" is a very good term to summarize the performances of any skater at any time, no matter whether you are merely a FS fan or an expert. Good. Any other frequently used words for the summary? "Meh, mediocre or tacky"? BTW, when did Liza fall in the skates? In SP or LP?

When it comes to Mao, I don't think she is that invincible, because she has many jump issues to handle and she will face much more competitions both at home and abroad, not only from Russians, but also from Americans.

I hope you understand my idea because I'm Mexican and although I know a little English, I find it more difficult to write .
I agree with you. I think it's still not the time to rush our predictions for the season with skating test of the young Russian .
As every year, are the skills that show the reality. But overall , I see good programs this year. Some will like us more music than another, one style more than another, but we understand that it was a test.
In particular , I'd liked the short program TUKTAMYSHEVA , I think if it works well and includes 3A will be sensational.
I also think that Mao Asada will not only have a lot of competition with American girls. Recall that the 2016 World Championship will be in the United States.

Karawisa, I see what you meant. :) Welcome to the board! :cheer:

I'm honestly not surprised. Ever since I could talk I've been known as an unreliable reporter.

That said, I will try to improve my fact-checking. :)

Aww, thanks! :)

I figured I needed to scram before the Forum Vultures finished me off. Or got me banned for poor fact-checking. (Can't tick 'em off if you aren't there.)

I have not been following this thread closely. But my two cents:

I don't think unreliable reporting is (or should be) grounds for banning someone.
Wishing you well as try to improve your fact-checking.

But surely you can understand why instances of unreliable reporting and of false premises would cause unhappiness and/or pushback from others.
Labeling those who have such reactions as "Forum Vultures" seems unfair and inappropriate, IMO.
Unless you mean vultures who prey upon inaccuracies :laugh2:.

That is a pretty good description, actually. :laugh2:

I just don't know what it takes to get banned and I am trying to be incredibly cautious about it.

Wow, never thought I'd be labeled a "Forum Vulture" just for pointing out misinformation. And no, I had no intention of getting you banned. FYI that didn't even cross my mind.

I just want to say I've been to a lot of forums and on the whole this is one of the most friendly/cordial ones out there, though sometimes people do get into nasty little bickering matches when there is some kind of rivalry or when one person has a favorite they feel compelled to defend to the death, at all costs, and though we all hate those people while they're doing it we've all mostly been guilty to some degree at one point or another.

What you really have to understand if you want to be happy here though is that people who bother to go to a figure skating forum and post regularly (and in this case frantically watch test skates and analyze them as if they were the greatest Torvil and Dean program of all time) are freaking passionate about figure skating. Generally, they are going to embrace it if you disagree with them about stuff and engage you in a conversation. But because these people are passionate, it's often going to irk them when someone posts something that's factually untrue, especially if a poster with some credibility does it. People rely on the factual information here in some cases, and while no, it's not a matter of life or death, because the people who are relying on this information are passionate, they take it seriously and so it does irk people when the people who post the information seem not to take it as seriously.

So bottom line (or tldr for the another site crowd ) people here are nice I promise. But you have to do your best when stating something as a fact (such as she singled a jump or she landed no triples or it was a lutz) to be accurate. No one will stone you if you make a silly and honest mistake (call it a flip not a lutz for example- we're also all guilty especially when calling it live) and no one cares if you state an opinion that is different though they may disagree with you very vocally. But the community works because we're all passionate and we all try to be factually accurate where we can.

Anyway off soapbox now.

I liked Evgenia the best in the test skates in both the SP and LP and her LP is really growing on me. I like her subtlety and interesting choreography. It has a way of drawing me into her performances. I find her in between skating moves like the flexible front extension with a pirouette near the end of her LP to be graceful and imaginative. Her lines and extensions and the length of time she holds them out are nice as are her arm and hand motions. I also like her musicality and choice of music in the LP especially. Though her jumps lack a bit in powerful flow in and out, height and distance, I feel she makes up for it to a large extent with very good air position, erect posture, smooth movement all the way through and the most aesthetically pleasing use of tanos I have seen. Evgenia is a very aesthetically pleasing skater. I hope she can improve her skating skills just a bit by gaining a bit more speed and sharper edges which I think would make her steps, jumps and spins even more impressive. But, this is already a wonderful performance, especially considering how early it is in the season.

I also liked Julia's SP.

Then a Forum Vulture is a force for good :yay: -- making a positive contribution to GS by debunking misinformation .

Thanks for the great post, tulosai. Thoroughly agree.

I agree with the bolded to a large extent, but, in this instance, no they didn't stone her. Some just accused her of being a propagandist. So, yes, most people are polite here, but I wouldn't paint the reaction to factual inaccuracies as always benign either. Everyone needs to take a breath, it seems to me, sometimes.

Thank you so much for this. I agree completely. And on my part, I will thoroughly try to be more accurate from now on. Try not to fan the flames anymore.

But this discussion should probably move on now. To things like Anna Tsareva being caught smiling (gasp)! :laugh2:

And we all make mistakes. (Tanith Belbin--whose commentary I much admire--recently said the highest debut at Worlds by an American dance team was Davis & White. Totally forgetting that the Shibs medaled at their first Worlds). Memory is an extremely unreliable thing. The other day I was looking up placements, and I could have sworn Max placed second to Jason at Junior Nationals in 2010, but Josh--who was in 4th after the short--actually won the free and placed second. I have no memory of Josh at this competition whatsoever! Makes it really fun to go back and look at old tapes though. People who you never paid any attention to at the time were often already there before you realized it.
