This is senior GP. Unlike JGP, the spots in the senior GP are not for country, they are for the invited skater. That means, if Artemieva withdraws, it is not up to Russian federation to send a replacement. The host country decides who they want to invite.

Right. I've been following JGP for too long and forgot senior GP has different rules. But I wonder if it is a wise move at all.

Seems, there is hunger for figure skating in Russian provinces as big as in capital cities. :agree:

If she stays in Russia she will simply disappear from the radar, because Tsurskaya, Konstantinova, Lozko and Zagitova will be senior eligible next season. And the season after it will be plus Gubanova, Nugumanova, Samodurova etc. So she may as well change country and at least try. She may be succesful, or maybe not, but at least she has a chance of getting to Europeans/worlds if she meets the TES minimum. In Russia she has no chance getting to Europeans or worlds.

If the Elizaveta Yuschenko who skated for Israel at Ondrej Nepela Memorial is one and the same as the Elizaveta Iuschenko who was in JGP two years ago, then it is disappointing that her scores this weekend were much below what she used to be capable of.
As to young Russian skaters who will be senior age-eligible next year -- let's not forget Alisa Fedichkina as well

I wouldn't consider Elizaveta Yuschenko's switch mid-career. She is only 16 now and I suppose she started working on switching more than a year ago.
An earlier Polina (Eteri's student) planned to skate for another country, and then just retired.
Maria Artemieva is already 23??? I thought she is 20 until I checked just now.

Medvedeva with JO's 147 confirmed that she is the undisputable #1 in the world now. Anna with 132 after a mistake in the opening combo and single axel clearly said that she is #2 in Russia and let others compete for the third spot. Her starting pcs of 65 also quite solid so that with the clean performance like she had at the worlds she is capable of aiming at 75+70=145 this season.
Who will be the third? That is the question. Sotskova is still very far from 200 milestone. Liza was not convincing. Yulia....sigh. Elena? She is the dark horse now. But it may be the same line-up in the end of the day to shut up "analysts" who say that Russia has "girls de jours" every season.

I like Pogorilaya's new style very much. I wouldn't know she was Pogorilaya If I hadn't open video her name. Dress, hair, boots everything looks different. White boots looks very good. I'm not fan of dress but If she is going less showy, more natural (no sparkles or strange cuts) dresses I'm taking this as a improvement.

I agree. I almost didn't recognize Anna either! It's refreshing to see a skater who isn't sticking to choreography and costuming that mimics their previous programs almost to a T.
Let's no exaggere that Masha is too weak for no.3 of "sborna" because she didn't reach yet 200 points. Of course it would be better to have Elena as she was previous season. But Masha got 189 in her first event this season, personal best (128 in FS) with mistakes which imho she can eliminate. This is not bad at all (compare it to Wakaba who is promoted now as no.3 in Japan). So, I think, for third spot will compete Masha, Liza and Elena (I hope). Unfortunately, I dont see Yulia here.

Yes, Menshov and Artemieva have been together for awhile. Menshov has retired from competitive skating, so his options are open.

Anyone else feel like Tsurskaya and Sotskova are the heir(esse)s of Carolina Kostner? Tall, lithe and with programs that have so much artistry and emotional feel, especially this season. They have solid jumps but it's the choreography and interpretation of the music draws me into these two young ladies. I feel the dance and music more with these two than anyone else. I'm so excited for these two in the coming years.
I see it more with Anna Pogogrilaya, she has vastly improved her artistry and her double axels ! her jump flows are very Kostner like now...
what is common among Maria, Polina and Anna are that, they are statuesque giving them wonderful lines.

Anna is my favourite Russian lady, as she is the only one I can really connect with, she is human!
