2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Adelina Sotnikova in the Main team? I would put her as reserve and sotskova into the main team really >.>
Especially considering that it's not clear that Adelina is serious about competing any more - she is missing the GP series to do shows :rolleye:

I will not judge her, but imho russian fed is doing a mistake there, based on how both performed on the previous season - for example, Sotskova was above Adelina on Nationals. Above Lipnitskaya and Tuktamysheva too, btw.
Is she getting only 1 GP too?

No, two, France and NHK.

I think Adelina remained on the senior team as a reward for her gold in Sochi. She is still the reigning Olympic champion, so she will be on the main team. Unfair? Maybe, but not everyone can get gold at the Olympics. And Sotskova is in reserve because she was only second at the junior worlds. When Sakhanovich got silver at junior worlds (twice), it only earned her spot at junior team, whereas the Russian ladies who got gold at the junior worlds in the past got straight into senior team, even though they were still not fully senior eligible. I suppose, Russians don't appreciate silver as much as they like the gold.

Don't forget, being on junior, reserve or senior team is not about the level the skater will be competing. It is about funding. There were in the past skaters on senior team competing as juniors, and there is currently a pair team on junior team who is not even junior eligible yet. They could have placed this team on novice team, but they felt that they deserved to be on junior team.

Looking thru Sasha Proklova's Instagram I can see how some might get the impression that her left leg healed wrong and she is somewhat lame. In so many pictures she seems to be held up or making poses where her left leg looks limited in motion.

I really hope it's just an odd coincidence because she has so much talent. I don't remember seeing any footage of her skating since the YOG.

I have a feeling Zhenia may struggle this year...Hope I'm wrong though!

Idk, I am more confident in her than I was in Julia or even Lena.
Medvedeva grew a lot during the season if look bac kat her 1st competition of the season or test skates in September and last competition in April. However, she only got stronger.

Both Elena and Evgenia have the characters of champions when even struggling loads they will be able to give 200%.

She might not be as consistent as last year, but I am sure she will deliver when it matters. Both her and Eteri know what they are doing. I feel like Lip could have avoided very poor performances if only she and her coach were in good terms...

Might be true. Her problems were more psychological, imo, than technical. I think Urmanov is right for her - the inner competition within the group at Eteri's camp was too much for Yulia. Tsurskaya, Medvedeva...

Is there a rule that says a skater HAS to start the season with the GP's? :scratch2:
The important comps are nationals, euros, worlds and olympics :confused2:

No bad vibes! I think she'll be fine this season, though probably won't be as dominate as last season. One of the struggling Russian ladies is bound to step it up this year, whether it's Liza, Yulia, or Sima (dream)...

Methinks: Liza + Masha Sotskova
