2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Poor Polina. I hope her injury is minor so she can be at Russian Nationals and get that JW gold!

Oh no! :( what a bad news! I wish Polina a good and fast recover :sad4:

I think Rika Kihara is going to challenge for gold, but Anastasia certainly has a good chance.

I think this season with Polina's WD the door is open almost for anyone (expect maybe Sakamoto).

Anastasiia has the best ts and the best fs from the juniors but Rika is not that far behind and she has the 3A and Alina as well is there and she has two backloaded programs with the tricky 3ltz-3lo; Marin is the current junior world champion i think she will be pushed for a medal despite her slow start this season; and even Liza Nugumanova may not have the best jumps but she has the grace and the consistency to stay in the mix.

Sakamoto recently won Jr Nationals beating Marin and Rika easily, don't count her out just yet.
I think Anastasiia should win easily if she skates as good as she did in her last junior gp event.
Very sad for Polina though. I thought she was so overrated last season, a carbon copy of Evgenia and all, but this season she really made me a fan. Her SP is outstanding and I hope will see her skate it cleanly at nationals

hmm
this year her progs are much more Evgenia style than last season:think:
but she inded improved miles this year

This ^

Kihira has the technical ability to mount a challenge, but with her inexperience at "big" international competitions (and the attendant Japanese media) compared to some of the other competitors... I'm not convinced she will deliver her best. I think the JGPF Ladies competition is very exciting this year, I think pretty much anything could happen, and I'll be cheering for both the Russian and Japanese skaters equally...

You might be right on this, but to me, her skating is very different compared to last season. And while the programs might be similar to Evgenia's (to some extent), the skating (at least to me) is different. I don't know how to put it without making it sound like I am bashing Evgenia, but what I really love about Polina this year is how her huge jumps play a part in her programs, they seem integrated and the power and the height adds to the drama (in the SP), it is one of the things that make her skating and programs stand out in comparison with Evgenia.

Not exactly shocking news, but Adelina will not be at Russian Nats. She will prepare for competition next season, however.

Is there an official reason why?

(I'm assuming she isn't prepared, but I'm curious if she has said why she isn't prepared and/or anything about her motivation or lack thereof.)

I miss Adelina. Of course her OGM is a huge reward and blessing, but I am afraid it has robbed us fans of ever getting to see her at her full potential.

Like, I'm already rooting for Polina T to win OGM next season, but maybe I shouldn't...

I don't think Adelina will be back. She hasn't committed to a full season since 2013-14 and the depth of talent in Russia next year will be even more incredible than this season.

I'm surprised that Adelina wants to continue competing. She has a lot of success outside of skating, hasn't she? I know she was on Dancing With The Stars and isn't she currently featured in a touring show?

She's been doing Kings on Ice - also I believe she has other upcoming committments?
