2016-2017 Grand Prix selections

Two spots for Peng/Jin! Back-to-back but it's China and Japan so not too much travel involved.

One spot for Denney/Frazier! Excited to see them back. I assume it's between them and Castelli/Tran (depending on summer performances) for the SA TBD spot -- expecting it to go to Castelli/Tran but maybe a third team could even sneak in (Pfund/Santillan?).

Dunno I think it will depend on summer performance like you said... before their injury a strong argument could have been made that D/F were the #1 US team but of course a lot of time has passed now and things do change... I am confused as to how they got one spot at all though- they are not in the top 24 for World Standings and I don't think they would be eligible for comeback spots...

Chock & Bates back to back events in different time zones :disapp:

They deserve better, The circumstances though...

Whoa, Sota Yamamoto got 2 assignments, I didn't expect that. I thought he'd stay in juniors. Nathan Chen has got two as well, I was worried he'd have to skip GP. And there's Deniss Vasilijevs with one.

Trophée de France uses all pairs and dance spots for native skaters unlike last season. :)

Just looked at the list for ladies...not what I was expecting at all.

1. Skate America will be INTENSE. Gracie vs. Ashley with Mao also in the mix. Yulia, So Youn, Gabby, and Kanako also there too. So many of my favourites are there!

2. Mao did not get NHK. Is this like the first time that ever happened?

3. Evgenia did not get Rostelecom. Pretty surprising considering that she won almost everything last season.

I thought the same thing about Medvedeva with her record plus her being Nat Champ too. Maybe Evgenia did not want it. I heard somewhere the Russian skaters don't really like Rostelcom.

As for the ladies, can anyone tell me if Carolina Kostner never had any chance of being taken into account for this GP season? On the basis of some ex-champion criteria, like Virtue and Moir? I don't know the rules and I'm just curious...

Liza did the same thing last season: won almost everything, but she didn't get Rostelecom

What are peoples thoughts on who gets the TBD spot at Skate America for the ladies? Mariah Bell hopefully?????

2. I know right? When was the last time it happened
3. I am also surprised. But from the fed perspective, Medvedeva doesn't really need that home boost to win GP series. Maybe she doesnt't wanna go to CoR as well and want to try some place new. Who knows.

Liza got the GP assignments that she expressed a preference for plus Elena was the reigning Russian Champ so it made sense when she was assigned Rostelcom

Artur Dmitriev Jr., son of a legendary pair skater has two GP assignments...hmm..

I was surprised to see that. I also saw Javier has back to back in Moscow and Paris, but at least those are much closer than Toronto and Moscow! I wonder if seeded skaters are given advance notice and can push back or they have to take what is selected.

I'm blanking out regarding him, was he on the GP before? First I thought he was one of the juniors moving up but I confused him with Dimitri Aliev.

It could either go to Tyler Pierce (5th), which would give her a second spot or Bradie Tennell (6th), if she opts to move up to senior internationally. Karen Chen (8th) and Courtney Hicks (9th) have two spots already.

I say it's a toss up between Pierce, Tennell, Hannah Miller (7th) Angela Wang (10th) or Mariah Bell (11th).

I am SO happy to see a lot of freshmen this year!!! GO Sota, Wakaba, Daniel, Serafima and Tyler!!!!

There is gonna be some real **** at Skate America. You know **** is real when there are more than three of your favourite skaters in a competition.

No, he has not. I also thought I misread his name as Aliev. That assignments surprised me to be honest. Aliev seems like staying junior one more year.
