Oh boy, I'd honestly love to! But I think just getting all event tickets for Skate Canada will bankrupt me.

That's right, but there's also the come-back skaters qualification to consider. If a skater who placed 1st-6th at a World Championship in the last 10 years has taken a break and is now planning on returning, then they'll be allowed to get up to two GPs in their come-back season. Carolina placed 3rd two years ago. And I think World Standings don't matter for this type of qualification. So I guess it's possible that Carolina chose to not do GPs.

$195 for the all event pass, add the ticketmaster fees and its $219. :sad21: I guess that's not a shocking amount, but it's still a lot of money. *cries* I'm debating not dragging someone from my family along and going solo.

thanks... that's not bad... i have paid about similar prices for other weekend sports events... and yes... solo it would be for me.. but i'd fly in... so yeah... thinking hard... just checking if i don't have gigs booked that weekend and if my friends who lives close by has a couch for me
I don't get these skaters that don't seem to want to compete anymore. Do they really think this is how they will defend their Olympic gold medals? Of course i don't see Sotnikova coming close to making the Russian team as it is right now unless she starts competing and getting serious and not just handpicking her events.

I thought Volosozhar/Trankov didn't intend to do the GP to begin with because they wanted to focus on Nationals? Is that also Adelina's plan?

I don't think Adelina's intentions for the coming season were ever publicly announced anywhere.

Nina said they would start their season after the GP. Maybe they're planning to upgrade their elements w/a quad twist or something. I'm sure they know that what they have isn't going to cut it any more, especially with the progress other teams are making. They don't need to do the GP, they have nothing to prove.

For me, Medvedeva vs Tutkamysheva will be the most intriguing battle in ladies. Why only one spot for Sotskova? Adelina is so afraid to compete against those tough girls on GP events, AGAIN?
I think some Japanese junior girls might change the scene of the ladies skating in a year or two, although I do not know whether they are age-eligible for any big events in the following seasons.

Pogrebinsky and Benoit finished 3rd in Junior Dance at Nationals last January and 4th in Junior Worlds. They're one of the few Junior Dance teams that moved up to Seniors this year. I think the USFSA just wants to give them some International experience at the Senior level.
I don't know if the come-back skaters qualification applies in Carolina's case since she was suspended rather than voluntarily sat out the last two years. But I also agree that it might be Carolina's choice not to do the Grand Prix. She only was allowed to return to the ice in January, and she probably isn't quite ready yet to take on Medvedeva and the rest.

Yes, it's a bit concerning that no one is saying what's going on with Joshua Farris. He's one of my favorite skaters. I hope he returns to the ice, but wish him only the best regardless.
Also noted that Richard Dornbush didn't get a Grand Prix assignment for the U.S. He had a herniated disc in his back that forced him to withdraw from U.S. Nationals last January. Don't know if he is still recovering or just got caught up in the "numbers game" now that Nathan Chen has moved up to Seniors. My guess is that he is skipping the Grand Prix in order to get totally healthy for Nationals in January.
The U.S. still has all it's "host country selection" spots to fill for Skate America (one per discipline) and Canada has "host country selection" spots available in every discipline except Dance for Skate Canada. It will be interesting to see who the U.S. and Canada selects for those spots. I don't know if the USFSA and Skate Canada are waiting to see if some skaters are going to be healthy enough to compete or if they are waiting to see how skaters do at some of the Challenger Series events (U.S. International, Nebelhorn Trophy) in September. Like I said, it will be interesting to see who gets those spots.

Internationally quite a lot of junior dance teams aged up to seniors this year:
Lauriault & Le Gac
Kuzmich & Sinicyn
Biechler & Dodge
Lee & Kam
Bent & Razgulajevs
Sales & Wamseeker
Evdokimova & Bazin
Xibei & Guangyao
Pogrebinsky & Benoit are the highest ranked junior dance team to move up. (Maybe the only one to decide to do so before aging out?) And they very plausibly decided to do so because the three teams ahead of them at Junior Worlds are all staying put. (P&B were originally signed up for the Chesapeake Open--I'm fairly certain as juniors--& then pulled out so this decision seems to have been relatively recently). I don't know how many of the teams above will make a run at competing as seniors. Or possibly split & reform into new teams like Betina Popova. Lauriault & Le Gac, of course, have two spots because there are openings on the French team. They earned at least one with their season's best. (Had a disaster on their twizzles at Junior Worlds or would have finished higher than 8th). Sales & Wamseeker are signed up for the summer competition in Quebec. I think Bent & Razgulajevs are signed up there too. Lee & Kam and Xibei & Guangyao already competed as seniors last season at Four Continents. And Kuzmich & Sinicyn should be able to get a spot at Europeans for the Czech Republic.

Definitely hoping Lipnitskaia can return to her previous level and even exceed it, but that's highly unlikely.
