C'mon on down to Chicago/Hoffman Estates SA you know you wanna!
Oh boy, I'd honestly love to! But I think just getting all event tickets for Skate Canada will bankrupt me.

Carolina Kostner didn't get a Grand Prix assignment because she isn't ranked high in the World Standings. Unless you are a "host country pick", you have to have a ranking (I think in the top 40, but I could be wrong on that)to be eligible for a Grand Prix assignment. Rankings are based on results for the last three years, and Carolina has missed those competitions. Juniors who move up to Seniors also are eligible for Grand Prix assignments based on their ranking as a Junior.
Peng, Zhang, Yu and Liu all have rankings in the World Standings, even though with different partners. So they qualify to be picked for a Grand Prix assignment.
how much for a weekend pass?

$195 for the all event pass, add the ticketmaster fees and its $219. :sad21: I guess that's not a shocking amount, but it's still a lot of money. *cries* I'm debating not dragging someone from my family along and going solo.![]()

I don't get these skaters that don't seem to want to compete anymore. Do they really think this is how they will defend their Olympic gold medals? Of course i don't see Sotnikova coming close to making the Russian team as it is right now unless she starts competing and getting serious and not just handpicking her events.I was surprised why Sotnikova didn't get any spot, while Artemieva got 1 and Leonova even 2 spots...
Here is the explanation from Alexandr Kogan (RusFed director):
"Сотникова и Волосожар/Траньков не будут участвовать в этапах Гран-при. У них свои планы подготовки, которые согласованы с федерацией"
So, it was her own choice, agreed with RusFed. The same for V/T

I thought Volosozhar/Trankov didn't intend to do the GP to begin with because they wanted to focus on Nationals? Is that also Adelina's plan?

Elliana Pogrebinsky & Alex Benoit... I've never heard of them.
That's right, but there's also the come-back skaters qualification to consider. If a skater who placed 1st-6th at a World Championship in the last 10 years has taken a break and is now planning on returning, then they'll be allowed to get up to two GPs in their come-back season. Carolina placed 3rd two years ago. And I think World Standings don't matter for this type of qualification. So I guess it's possible that Carolina chose to not do GPs.
Why only one spot for Sotskova?
Impossible to know the status (one way or the other) of his recovery. It has been months since he made any public comment.
Wishing him the best.
Why are people saying Skate America Ladies is super competitive? I'd say that's actually the weakest field overall. Asada, Wagner, Gold is a nice competition but that's really all there is; none of the most competitive Russian ladies are in the event and there isn't really anyone else at the event with big spoiler potential, at least from what I know at the moment.
Pogrebinsky and Benoit finished 3rd in Junior Dance at Nationals last January and 4th in Junior Worlds. They're one of the few Junior Dance teams that moved up to Seniors this year. I think the USFSA just wants to give them some International experience at the Senior level.
Wait till you see Yulia skate the lights out
