2016-2017 Grand Prix selections

Even worse, Julia Lipnitskaya has WD from SA: http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat00028737.htm Why?

And Ksenia Stolbova/Fedor Klimov has WD from both assigments too. It feels like the worst day ever. :curse:

:eeking: They are not favorites, but still I expected them to do well since Sui/Han and Scimeca/Knierim are out of injury and V/T is out for the pregnancy..what a start for pair events...:slink:

Terrible. And I was super excited for GP series and now my excitement will be at level of Challengers at most, because the field is getting worse and worse with every news.

We have still D/R, S/M, K/S as GPF podium contenders...I hope they are free of any injury. Knocking on the wood.

Lipnitskaya WD due to an old injury.

Here is the official statement by Alexander Gorshkov (Russian Fed. president):

"After the competition in Bratislava, Yulia had an aggravation of an old injury. Therefore it was decided to remove her (from Skate America) due to medical reasons. Participation in Moscow's Grand Prix? We'll have to wait and see. Health is this thing that doesn't fit into plans and schedules. Is this a threat of missing the whole season? That is not in the discussion (no)."

edit: About Stolbova and Klimov...

There seems to be no official info., but the WD is most likley caused by an injury as well (Ksenia had a shin injury due to a change of boots) given that it was the cause of their withdrawal from the test skates and Finlandia Trophy

Well, all of them competed in Challengers, so I don't know how GP is better. Unless new Chinese Pairs are better than expected, just 3 really good Pairs couple is underwhelming for me. And it's boring to know who qualifies to GPF before even GP series start. That's just my feelings of dissapointment, you of course may think otherwise.

I just find out Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinano's withdrawal from Rostelecom...oh well...

ETA: Camille RUEST / Andrew WOLFE (CAN) replace MT/M for the assignment. Oh..they are the team at CS Autumn Classic 2016 whose SP impressed me.

T/M, S/B, I/M or J/C are likely to step up to grab the opportunity for the GPF podium in the absence of many top teams...However I understand your feeling.

I know KMT has a concussion, which she reported on TSL a couple of months ago. Hope she is able to skate sometime this season.

They were the main reason why I'm going to Moscow! Seeing them live on their home turf...erm....ice. I'm sure it'll be still exciting and, well, Moscow for starters... but I'm more disappointed now then I thought I would be upon receipt of such news.
The other withdrawals are just as incredible. What's going on today?

Honestly this is all really bad news. This really as cut a huge percent of top and popular contenders out in what feels like one blow, especially in pairs. I think the pairs event in the GPF is going to make some teams who would have no chance of getting there in a normal year very happy indeed...

SO disappointed about Yulia. Saw her last year in Milwaukee at SA and was really looking forward to seeing how much she has improved since last season! :curse::shrug: :console:

I barely have had any time to go on here since I got so busy. But HOLY COW WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!

Like this is a LOT LOT LOT LOT of WD in such a short period of time. Holy cow. Wow.

Excellent news for six people: Iliushechkina/Moscovitch, Yu/Zhang, Peng/Jin.
Not so excellent for the rest of us.

Disappointing to see so many WDs. But we get to see some different skaters on GP so I'm happy for those getting a chance. For these skaters this may be the opportunity of a lifetime.
