2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

*angry hiss*

So this isn't just a one time thing, Australia is completely cut out for all time. Please tell me they will have a booth at Worlds with some kind of feedback form so I can vent my fury at them...

still no news about entries :sad21: we know Elizaveta will go, and Elizabet Tursynbaeva said on her instagram that she will be there as Team Asia, but no offical announcement yet, i thought we would hear about it by now :dbana:

Well I still hope they will let team Australia join Asia and team South America join North America in future. That would be the best, I think.

The deadline for skaters to confirm was Feb. 10 so I'm sure they will announce something soon.

Any ideas when the entries will be announced? After falling in love with the North Korean pairs team at Four Continents, I really hope they can take part in this event. (They could certainly use the prize money...)

CoyoteChris posted a link to this article which states that the US skaters will be announced Feb. 29, and the rest soon thereafter. But the Russian Fed already confirmed they are sending Liza T., Sergei Voronov, and Stolbova/Klimov.

Both the Canadian :) and U.S. entries on Team North America will be announced on Feb 29, per the article.

Thx to silverfoxes and CoyoteChris for posting it.

I'm glad they take Voronov, but I very much hope Fedor is properly sorted out before that. I'd rather see S/K at Worlds.

I'm tempted to go, but I live on the other side of the State  So it would probably be a 5 hour drive or so. Also, the attendance list hasn't been confirmed yet either. But I'm excited to see how the competition works!

  • Team North America will be announced Monday, February 29th
  • Team Europe will be announced Wednesday, March 2nd
  • Team Asia will be announced Wednesday, March 9th

Wanted to add a link to "The media and skating in Spokane" thread in The Edge, started by CoyoteChris:

Good news! At least we will have some info soon. At this point the top 5 ranked NA ladies are all American and the top 5 European skaters are all Russian which I find interesting... I wonder who if anyone will end up declining to participate.

I am also really looking forward to the fan vote portion!

Below is a reminder of those who per the rules should have been invited first, based on the ISU World Standings on Jan 1.

But ... as you say, the announcements over the next two weeks will not necessarily match the lists below, depending on which skaters (if any) declined their invitations.

- Team North America:
Jason Brown; Nam Nguyen; Gracie Gold; Gabrielle Daleman; Weaver/Poje; Chock/Bates; Duhamel/Radford; Scimeca/Knierim

- Team Europe:
Javier Fernandez; Sergei Voronov; Elizaveta Tuktamysheva; Roberta Rodeghiero; Stolbova/Klimov; Della Monica/Guarise; Papadakis/Cizeron; Cappellini/Lanotte

- Team Asia:
Yuzuru Hanyu; Denis Ten; Satoko Miyahara; Elizabet Tursynbaeva; Kim/Minov; Wang/Liu; Sui/Han; Ryom/Kim (DPRK)

In post #289 above, silverfoxes said that Russia is sending Voronov, Tukt, and Stolbova/Klimov.

Thoughts re the Team Asia pairs:
I'm torn. Would love to see the North Koreans compete at TCC, but .... at the same time, am clinging to a shred of hope that the ISU will deem Australians eligible for Team Asia. If/if/if so, Stephens/Dodds should have been invited before Ryom/Kim, based on the World Standings on Jan 1.

I'm going, and I'm super excited because it will be my first international competition! (I'm also quietly hoping that Chock/Bates decline so I can see the Shib's Fix You :scard8:)

Me too!!! SO excited, will buy tickets tonight :D

I much prefer the World team Trophy format more then this competition. They go by the current season and the countries top skaters for that season usually go and compete. This event basically has the skaters who were highly ranked last season so we get skaters who had bad seasons this year like Nam, Tuk and Voronov and not someone like Medvedeva or the Shibs. Skating changes so much from year to year that this competition will feel like it's a year behind with what's actually happening for the current season that's ending.
