2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

Konstantin as the fan pick for Europe, though? Can't see it, although I like him very much...I would think Michal, Florent, Adian, or maybe even Kovtun would be more popular.
Id be on board with Michal & Florent :luv17:

now that I thought about it I actually have no idea about who could get Euro fan pick except obvious king of popularity aka superJavi:biggrin:

Paris Stephens / Matthew Dodds may qualify as the second Asian pair team, I think.

Hmm, not sure about that. The announcement says:

Skaters will represent continents based on the geographic location of their country. Team Asia will consist of Skaters of ISU Members from Asia, Team Europe will consist of Skaters of ISU Members from Europe and Team North America will consist of Skaters of ISU Members from Canada and the United States.

and Australia is not in Asia. So unless there is a specific allowance that I cannot see...

Certainly when speaking of judges, the announcement sees a divide too-

Each panel will consist of 7 Judges, namely 2 Judges from Asian ISU Members, 2 Judges from European ISU Members, 2 Judges from North American ISU Members plus 1 Judge from African or Oceanian ISU Members. All Judges must be from different ISU Members on each panel and the Judges must be “ISU” Judges.

Paris Stephens / Matthew Dodds could be a candidate as the second Asian pair team, too.

Unless Australia is part of Team North America. Really they could go either way... and i almost think they should be allowed to play both sides until that becomes an issue.

The Australian soccer team participate in Asian Cup, I think it's because their football association is registered with the Asian countries.
There's rumors that Australia would participate in future Asian games, but I don't know how true is it.

Time zone wise Asia makes more sense for AZ... culturally they make more sense likely with NA. I would be thrilled if team NA got an Aussie skater on our team if Australia is deemed part of NA, and frankly would be thrilled if/when we can get any skater from anywhere but Canada/USA. At the same time, if Austria ends up on Team Asia because it gives them more chances to compete, i would be thrilled to see them get to compete more.

But here is the real question.... if the fan vote for NA includes both Max Aaron and and Brendan Kerry... who will karne support?

So nice to see three Italian skaters in team Europe! :cheer:

Well, with the qualification that these are the people who seem to qualify under the rules to be invited as of now. There may be people who decline. So the final list may be different.

Is Florent retiring after Euros? so he won't go to team challenge cup :(

Deniss could be nominated! :luv17: I don't think Daniel Samohin will go to sr. Worlds...but maybe Adian will. I'd vote for him or Deniss (although I've never seen Deniss live so I'd probably vote for him, plus it'd be nice to have more variety of countries). Florent won't be an option any more if he retires before Worlds. :ohwell: Chafik though...& I assume Ivan will be nominated? I like all these guys, but Deniss! Deniss! Deniss!

The more i think about it the more i think the wild card man for Team Asia is going to be hard to predict.

Misha Ge is a fan favorite and likely would be move vote - he deserves the chance to do something like this the most in my view. China and Japan can do other team events, Uzbekistan has less a chance. Plus he missed out on TEB.... yeah he likely is who i am hoping for.

Boyang Jin would be great to have and it would be a great way to sorta usher him into the top of the sport. Plus having three countries would be nice (this also works for Misha).

Then there is Japan....I am sure Shoma will have massive support, but I suspect some might be diluted due to other Japanese skater having support as well.

I would like to see Misha Ge going to the team challenge cup. He is the real engaging skater for Team Asia. And this is a continental event, which is the only team event Misha gets to compete.

^^ if Yuzu and Denis decline, the three above can go

I'm ok if Yuzu decline :slink:

But can the skaters decline? IIRC, it's not easy for them to get out of WTT, except for an injury. I think they were limited on the ice shows they could go to or something like that? Sure, the top skaters can hardly have something to win there, but they attract the audience. So I guess the ISU would try to convince them to attend :/

So they changed their scoring format. Looks like Asia won't stand a chance now  I vote for Misha too! How does the invites work...can people decline? :scratch2:

I really hope they can do something for Misha. His season was cut short due to Visa issues and I would love to see him finish on a high note.

I think they can decline because this is invitational, not forced participation ala WTT.

Seems like a lot of work on USFS's part lol. Hope everything goes smoothly, it sounds like it'll be a fun event :agree2:

For the 3rd fan voted skaters: this is going largely by rumors, but I think there are speculations that Carolina Kostner might come back? If she'd be at worlds in halfway good shape, I think she would get my vote :) I'm also wholeheartedly with Misha for Team Asia! Misha + Yuzu + Denis = too much adorkableness too handle

I'm ok if Yuzu decline :slink:

That was my thought too... on the other hand, it's like a field trip of the cricket bros, getting their "hometown" boys for the ultimate decision of who has to wash the dishes... or something like that ;)

Well, I want to see Yuzuru once in my life & I'd be very disappointed if he declined, unless he was injured (but that would be disappointing too, of course). I don't think he is so delicate, special and fragile that he can't skate one more competition...no moreso than any of the rest of the athletes. And yes, I will vote for Misha for Team Asia for sure.
