I'm still thinking Ashley and Mariah are the US's best hope. Karen is too inconsistent. She has a great skate and looks wonderful every now and then. Same with Mirai. We all keep hoping Mirai will get it together. It's amazing how many points she lost today after the review. Tells me that her skating is still sloppy and her URs are killing her. She looked really good, clearly was fighting for everything but came up short yet again. Just like every other discipline this year, the ladies at Nats is going to be a crapshoot. Anyone can win.

Maybe Ashley, but she herself is not getting US #1 preferential treatment anymore. Look at her TES, they will bury her.
Mariah is even worse, her status is at best US #3, look at her dropping like a rock.

In term of hope, Karen is the best hope. You just have to pray that she hits. Mariah can hit it out of the park, and be out of the top 10. Ashley, depends on the technical specialist.

Mirai is certainly good enough to make the World/Olympic teams, if only because there is no depth in the US women's field. One problem I'm noticing is that all her jumps besides the 3A are less consistent, and she can't afford not to adequately train those.

Has that ever been done before? A fully rotated 3A and every other jump is at least under-rotated. It just seems so strange.

Mirai has focused a lot on her 3A recently so I don't find it surprising. Her 3-3 is pretty much the same as it always has been. I can't remember the last time she landed a clean 3-3.

At 2017 Four Continents, Mirai landed clean 3F-3T in both the SP and FS.

And in the 2017 Rostelecom FS, Mirai fully rotated 3F-3T. With -0.1 GOE. Not quite clean, but close.

If consistency is a concern in putting Mirai or Karen on the Olympic team, then it is hardly less of a concern with Mariah.

It just seems Mirai has focused on the 3A to the exclusion of all the other jumps. It seems that the benefit she gets from the 3A more than offsets the sum of the under rotations on the others.

So weird, she get full rotation on the 3A but can get less than that same rotation on the others.

It wouldn't surprise me if doing the 3A energises and motivates Mirai - she's been stuck in the same old-same old for years; maybe she just needed something new.

Besides, I admire her guts. Go for it, Mirai!:)

Wow what difference a day make in jumps for Mirai ! Yesterday only the 3A was clean and the others were at least under rotated. Today, only the 3A was under rotated and ALL the other jumps were fully rotated.

Maybe Mirai is always going to be inconsistent. A lot of really good skaters are. What impresses me about her this year is that I haven't seen her fight like this in a long time. Her PCS look a little better today too?

Looking at international scores Mirai is def #1 among US Ladies right now. She have highest scores, even though her PCS is quite low compared to Ashley. Let's see how Ashley and Karen do next 2 weeks, will they have redemption or not? and i think Mirai >> Bell

Looks like Nagasu, Wagner and Chen are beginning to emerge as the frontrunners for the Olympic Team half-way into this GP season. Bell has gone the opposite direction I'm afraid and Hicks' track record is spotty which might work against her with the Committee.

I'd argue that Karen is less of a front-runner than either Ashley or Mirai considering her VERY poor performances as of late, especially at Skate Canada. She can still turn it around at SkAm. But she's probably in a more favorable position that Mariah or Courtney.

Mirai set herself up quite well. So so PCS but still highest score in both SP and LP.
I think the good will will secure her a spot.

I feel sort of relaxed, actually, knowing that there is actually 0% chance of a US "Lady" getting any sort of a medal in the Olympics, except perhaps in the team competition (are they still having that)? In the previous two Olympics, there was perhaps a 10% chance with Rachael Flatt and young Mirai and maybe 33% in 2014 with Ashley at her peak and Gracie on the upsurge. But this year? Absolutely nil.

It's depressing watching "Return to Sochi" on the new Olympic Channel. Both of the skaters who were expected to be the top contenders for 2018 are out with eating disorders (Gracie and Julia/Yulia). So sad.

You never know. Ashley is a dark horse, and Karen could have a good day. I haven't watched the NHK videos yet, but I see that Mirai was 4th at NHK.

I think Mirai did quite well here. My disappointment still lies with Mariah Bell. She was so promising last year and to see her struggle is a bit sad. I really think she should dump this new free program and go back east of eden before its too late.
