2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

There's no more requirement for the ladies to do a layback into a beilmann, is there? You can omit it and still get all level 4 spins? I think this is great for Ashley. She said she'll be working on her spins and I hope she has them good enough for john nicks to approve.

Gracie can return her glory if she manages to win at Ondrej Nepela Trophy-2017

When is this event? I want to make sure to follow it. I don't care if she doesn't win as long as she skates well. At this point, if she lands a triple triple on her SP, I will consider it a victory. Since she didn't present either of her programs at Camp, she is a complete mystery at this point.

What is your basis for saying that Gracie did not present either of her programs at Champs Camp???

I am aware that there was a tweet -- which could be accurate or inaccurate -- from TSL that she did not present her SP.

Even if/if/if the TSL tweet were correct, it would be about only her SP.

Did I miss a separate item regarding Champs Camp and her FS???

BTW, a reminder to anyone interested that Gracie's another site AMA is scheduled for Wed Aug 30, 1 - 2 pm ET.

I don't think there's been any information saying Gracie didn't present her long program at Champs Camp. The only tidbit has been a TSL tweet saying she didn't skate her SP.

Ondrej Nepela is Sept. 21-23. I hope Gracie only goes is she's in reasonable shape/preparedness. I don't think a Golden Spin moment is going to help much, and if she lost to Zhang that would be an ominous beginning to her 2017-18 body of work.

Well, if she did present her LP, she has kept it under wraps. I have seen no evidence that she presented either of her programs and that's why people were wondering if she'd be ready for her first event. If there's evidence that she's prepared to compete, I'd be very, very happy to see it. I'm rooting for her and I'd love nothing more than to see her make the team.

I think Champs Camp is kept under wraps for the most part. For example, as far as I know there's no "evidence" Ashley presented either program, but I'm sure she did. I would assume Gracie did skate a long program until proven otherwise.

Just thought I'd copy my post over from the champs camp thread.

As promised earlier in the thread: Here's my first part of the report on Gracie at Sun Valley.

Pro practice and show practice has been over for about a half hour now. From what I could see when I wasn't busy, she mostly ran choreography (which looked like she was having a hard time remembering), and practiced spins. She mostly did single jumps, waltz jumps and one or two badly UR doubles.

She wore all black with a oversized sweatshirt for 99% of the practice.

Will try to report later after the show.

Is Sun Valley an ice show? She'll be performing an exhibition number, not her short or long program?

Thank you for reporting. I will withhold saying anything more for now.

She's special guest in an ice show tonight. She can do either exhibition program or short/long if she chooses. It's up to her.

Jason skated his SP a few weeks back, others have skated their competitive programs here this summer as well, but again it's up to the particular skater. She has 2 slots to skate programs today.

It seems most skaters have been doing two numbers at Sun Valley and it seems to usually be an exhibition and a SP. Nathan and Jason both did their SP there.

Karen did her Rise and Butterfly Lovers exhibitions here this summer and Chock/Bates also did exhibitions (Tango with chair and Under Pressure show version).

I think I felt that Gracie had hard time remembering her choreography in recent competitions, and it continues. I am speechless.

Update:

Gracie's Aug 30 another site AMA apparently is no longer happening.
(It was most recently [AFAIK] promoted on Aug 17 and originally was announced on the master schedule on Jul 19.)

But as of today, Hubbell and Donohue now are scheduled for the Aug 30 slot formerly occupied by Gracie.

https://www.another site.com/user/T.../next_upice_dancers_madison_hubbell_and_zach/ (Aug 28)

I love H/D, and it's great for their sake that they were added to the schedule.

But I will miss Gracie.
N.B.: Impossible to tell whether it was Gracie's own idea or someone else's idea for her not to participate as scheduled.

Oh no, really? I hope we find out soon how things will shake out with Gracie this season. I'm trying to wait patiently but am clearly failing at that.

Probably for the best. I'd imagine there would be many blunt questions to navigate which could be upsetting.

I am on both sides of the fence as to whether it is for the best.

I agree that another site would have had some or even many blunt questions for Gracie.
But I think it would have had numerous supportive comments/questions for her as well.

And in an AMA, it is perfectly normal to pick and choose which questions to answer.
(Usually being selective is not only normal, but also necessary -- because of time constraints in the face of a large number of questions.)

So yes, Gracie would have been navigating through/around blunt questions.
But the AMA also would have been an opportunity to address -- in her own words -- whatever she would want to address regarding her state of readiness, to whatever extent (perhaps in rather succinct terms??) she would want to address it.

Anyway, best to Gracie.

Meanwhile, a reminder for anyone interested that Golden West is taking place this week.

I have not heard anything one way or the other about who is entered this year, but FWIW:
Last year Gracie competed in the SP.
And this year Ashley has said that she might compete in a club competition. Might we see her at Golden West???
Caroline Zhang and Vivian Le also were among last year's competitors.

I think if she wants to address anything, her social media platforms would be more direct and reach a larger audience than another site AMA.
