I would be soooooooo thrilled if Ashley skates at 4CC. She could bring down the house and place over Satoko (UR queen) or Kaori (no PCS). I'm sure she wants to just announce her retirement from amateur, but what a 'SIUYA' to USFSA if she medals or wins and come Olympics no medals, maybe one or two in the high top ten. She can redeem herself with a killer LLL at 4CC. I so wish this for her.

So let me get this straight.... you are hoping the ladies team doesn’t do well so that Ashley looks better and insulting the (very strong actually...) Japanese team in the process. Hmm.
I am so looking forward to that. Maybe we can even get a version with NO COMMENTARY. I was so glad to see it live and not have to listen to T&J yapping.
And by the way skylark, you deserve an award for the most positive and diplomatic posts. You are always fair and reasonable and have a way of defusing the people who get so negative. I generally try to skip over the negativity and craziness and I always read you posts. So thank you. (It doesn't hurt that we also share a love of AW)
I didn't get that from the comment at all. I agree, that Ashley should go to 4CC and kick some ass and possibly go out on a high if she retires this season. She has a pretty good shot at winning, or at least medaling, since it'll likely be a depleted field from usual years.

He called Satoko “UR queen”. Not a compliment. I’m also assuming this comment about Satoko was to suggest that Ashley could beat Satoko due to her UR issues. Which is honestly a bit ironic. Then the commenter said Kaori has no PCS. Again, insinuating that because of this Ashley can beat Kaori. Kaori is a strong jumper and consistent. If she throws down two clean performances AGAIN here don’t think the judges wont rise her PCS. She also wished that come olympics our ladies will only get top 10 finishes no medals. While I believe this will happen as well I still HOPE our ladies will make top 5 finish or surprise bronze. This commentator seems to be hoping that will happen so the USFSA will regret not putting Ashley on the team.
I am rooting for Ashley to win but I think Kaori has lovely interpretation and is probably the cutest person on the skating circuit. When she smiles in the K&C I want to give her a hug. Her programs are among my highlights of the season so far.

You twisted the intent so much it's really hard to get to your conclusion from that beginning.
I used to think like this in the past. Instead I like to enjoy the kids in this moment and watch them grow without putting so much emphasis on the future. So while Caroline didn’t have the career we expected, I can still look at her junior videos fondly and ooh and aw over her pearl spin. Same with Julia.
It’s like walking through an apple orchard filled with apple blossoms. Just because you want the apples doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the flowers for now.

True....Remember Caroline Zhang....She was like the second coming when she her junior world title. She had that pearl spin and she was supposed to be the next big thing. Ann Patrice was another skater who was supposed to strike it big.. You just never know until they become Seniors.

I don’t see how I twisted it. You put what the op said in to nicer terms that what they actually said. Also, your last line of your interpretation proves my point. How would our girls not succeeding be a victory for Ashley? Who’s to say Ashley would have succeeded? It’s a bit rude in my opinion to hope our ladies do rather poorly so that Ashley looks better. That’s all.
Fair enough, but my response was specifically to Alysa Liu being described as the "future" of U.S. skating. For that to happen she needs to get through adolescence. But, yes, she's wonderful as she is, right now.

Positivity and diplomacy are both things I aspire to. So I thank you, in turn, for your kind words.
She'll get them next year. Probably will get Ice Challenge or Spring Egna in Italy.
Funny, I just mentioned Pooja Kalyan in the thread on Asian American skaters as the first Indian-American skater I can remember--she's lovely--calm, graceful quality to her skating.

Speaking of Pooja, have her performances at nationals been posted anywhere?
I'm so thrilled for her. She really has a quality in her skating. I hope she gets some good placements on the JGP.

I don't think that either poster wished for our girls not to succeed. At least, that isn't what I got from the posts. Just that many people agree that our ladies' chances at the Olympics look problematic. And even though we hope one (or all three!) will do unexpectedly well, the chances of that happening are reduced with Ashley not being on the team. International Judges have proved, over and over, that they like Ashley and respect the unique qualities she brings to figure skating. And we need more like her. Musical, artistic skating with conviction, emotional power, and audience connection is sorely needed in our sport.
I also hope Ashley has a really fabulous redemption skate at 4CC. For her sake mostly. But also ... USFSA, and/or the judges who held her down in PCS marks, need to see that they made a miscalculation by doing so.
Yes she is very poised and appeared so calm. She had very little in-between skating but somehow was mesmerizing to watch.
I watched her at practice and she stood out from the rest. I happened to be sitting next to her mom and she said that Pooja is good about keeping her head on straight and doesn't get too wrapped up in the chaos of competing.
