2017-18 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

I can't believe that, one week from today, Nathan is going to skate his first Olympic SP! I hope Adam gets to do the LP.

If USF and Raf are smart, this is the way to go. Nathan is unlikely to have any significant problems in the SP, and if he wins that's a lot of momentum going into the individual event. If he flubs the FS, then that's a negative impression going into the LP and could further mess with his confidence. I guess we have a small chance of a team gold if Nathan wins both the SP and FS, but I think the chance is small enough we should just forgo it and give him a better chance to get the individual gold.

I think they also have to look at other countries strategies too- I imagine several top skaters won't want to do the LP because it is closer to the start of the individual event. They are essentially looking at how skaters will stack up against each other.

I don't think any of that matters. What matters is that you can gain more ground on the competition in the SP than in the LP during the team event. So your top competitors are highly likely to go up in the SP or in both.

Plus Nathan's SP this year is a really great program, and he's done quite well with it. And Adam's LP is very strong. As soon as the Olympic team was announced, that's the way I thought they should divide up the Men's part of the Team event. We'll see though...

Nathan and Adam have both posted airport IGs (Adam stories about not sleeping and Nathan of 'spotting' himself in the airport on a United poster) for those interested in checking out SM only if they know something's been posted.

And Ashley posted packing videos with Adam last night and a send-off pic of him overnight.

(Among others recognizable in the photo are Alex Wellmann and cast member Shawn Sawyer.)

Cutest mini-video I've ever seen of little Adam #throwback #birthdayboy :hb: (courtesy of his sweet mother):

Good luck to Nathan, Vincent, and Adam at OWG :yay:.

Hope your loved ones also have a great trip to Korea :ghug:.

ETA: Ooops, sorry that I forgot :hopelessness: to wish the same to the coaches too. Best to Raf, Tom Z, et al. :)

Hey....I just saw Vincent Zhou on an Olympic Commercial.......I have seen Nathan on several, now Vincent. Still waiting to see Adam. I'm hoping I'll catch one of the ladies soon.

Can I just whine for a minute? last night on the Olympic channel they showed gp russia long programs and I REALLY want to know who approved Nathans tragic Vera Wang costumes!! They make his basic flowy costumes look like priceless couture. They are just so bad you guys!:gaah: Also would love to have a long discussion with whoever cut his hair...he really did have such a cool unique thing going on. SIGH. Still super excited to see him at the Olympics tho and hoping so much we get a clean on point execution of his long!

Nathan’s skating SP and Adam LP In Olympic team event.

Awesome - that is just what I was hoping for! Of course, now I'm nervous... Here's hoping they both skate programs they can be proud of!

Btw meant to tell you I love your avatar and your caption!
