Additional quota places will be available at the designated Olympic Qualifying competition Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, in September 27 – 30, 2017: six for Men and Ladies, four for Pairs and five for Ice Dance. The host country Korea is guaranteed an extra spot per discipline if they do not qualify through the normal qualifying procedure (2017 World Championships and Olympic Qualifying competition). For example, if Korea does not qualify a Man/Women in Oberstdorf, there will be 31 competitors at the Olympic Games in PyeongChang (21 in pairs and 25 in Ice Dance). Additional quota places may become available in case countries will not use spots and give them back.

Thanks for this list!

Some updates :
- Yi Christy Leung (HKG), Guzide Bayir (TUR), Hana Cvijanovic (CRO), So/Yau (HKG) will not be age-eligible for OG. For Croatia, Katarina Kitarovic could take part at Nebelhorn.
- Nikolova/Evelins (BUL) have split, probably Den Olden/Sabatini (NED) too (no competition since august...)
- for Philippines, Alison Perticheto is quite in the race. She reached last weekend the SP TES for Worlds, and was close to reach the FP TES.

Would it be possible to create sub threads for Nebelhorn this year? As it is Olympic Qualification, it would be ideal if we can separate the disciplines and events.
Thanks..

Also, here is a list below of nations who are in the race of a remaining spot/ countries that are able to send a representative to Nebelhorn [but will not likely qualify). Please note that even though Nebelhorn will serve as the final Olympic Qualifying event, it is also part of the ISU Challenger Series, so there will also be nations at Nebelhorn who have already earned quota spots. Obviously those countries will not be in the running for another quota spot.

I would be very careful in your predictions as in several of your "unlikely to qualify skaters" have beaten your "in the race" skaters on numerous accounts. Keep in mind ANYTHING can happen in skating. You can't base predictions on just Worlds alone.

Yeah, I'm with PurpleBabe on this one. I am not at all comfortable with declaring that skaters are "certain qualifiers". Ice is slippery, and anything can happen.

You mention Coomes/Buckland for instance, they're only just back on the ice together. There is no way you can say with confidence that they will "certainly" qualify in just six months' time.

Personally, I really root for the North Koreans, Czechs, Australians, Austrians to make it to the Olympics because their great performances at Worlds in Helsinki were very exciting to watch. They brought out diverse colors and flairs to the event. While I also loved watching the Japanese (off topic; their fashion sense was superb :luv17:), somebody said the chance of Boudreau-Audet to get his Japanese citizenship by the time for the event is very slim. What a pity it is (another Takahashi/Tran case).

The pair quota for the Olympics is too small compared to the raised level in pairs. I prefer more diverse countries representing at Olympics to strong countries taking multiplies.

How are the Czech pair "certain to qualify" and the Aussies just "in the race"? Didn't they score almost the same at Worlds just now? :scratch2: I mean I love both of those teams and want them both at the Olympics...maybe I just don't get the rules?

The difference between their total scores earned at Worlds is 15 points, but that doesn't mean that the Czechs have a guarantee of earning their Olympic spot at Nebelhorn, but have a higher chance though.

Does the Finnish pair have motivation or reason to try to olympics? There is no other pair in Finland and he is Canadian.

I can't speak for them, but becoming an Olympian is every athlete's dream in general. With the motivation, they would push themselves to try harder. I think the Finnish pair team doesn't have triple twist in their arsenal yet and the female partner lacks refinement and SS. However, she is still a high teen, so she can go to Olympics multiple times even if she won't have an opportunity this time for Olympics. For example, It is amazing to watch how much the Austrian team has improved and developed themselves over the time. They were the last team to earn an Olympic berth via Nebelhorn Trophy, but very lucky to represent at Sochi Olympics after two teams in above ranking were out due to their citizenship issues. And then they had struggled on with puberty and technical difficulties for the two following seasons since Sochi, but finally could put it together in competition this season. Even though they didn't earn their Olympic berth at Worlds this time, they're not the team in the range of getting mid 130 points any more.

I meant the problem is, he is not Finnish and olympics needs citizenship. From wikipedia: Skaters must represent a member nation of the International Skating Union and reach the age of fifteen before July 1 of the previous year. They are also required to be citizens of the country they are representing.[3] Competitors have until just before the Olympics to receive citizenship. Since nationality rules are less strict for the ISU Championships, sometimes skaters who have competed at World or European championships are not eligible for the Olympics.

They are too late for attaining the citizenship at this point even if their resume were much better than the current one. They formed their partnership only last season, so they competed together in less than 5 times internationally and the 2017 Worlds is the only major int' competition for them. That would be way below whatever criteria for which Finland Feds and Olympic committee look from any foreign born athletics aspiring to represent Finland at Olympics. I think their practical goal is to participate in 2022 Olympics.

I'm thinking of going, does anyone know when the tickets will be available?

I attended in 2009 and 2013 (the previous two Olympic qualifiers), and bought tickets the day before the competition began. Seating was general admission, so nothing was lost by waiting until I got there.

Call me paranoid but I really want the tickets before I make my plans. You'll never know.... I have no problem sitting wherever, though. I've never been to the venue, but from videos it looks pretty cozy.

Well, you can get tickets at the entrance of the rink. You can pay with EC card too. 2009 I got them mailed from Touristinformation Oberstdorf. Train tickets are available now if anyone want to go by train like me.

Don't see this noted so far, so if I've missed it I apologize. The Danes are not going to use their Olympic berth in Ice Dance (unless some supper talented Danish Ice Dance couple is hiding somewhere), so really there are six spots available for countries at this competition.

I totally understand, I was just like that when I went to ONT for the first time. But once I was there I understood all those who had assured me I needed not to worry about tickets or seating at all. There are very few people in the stand, you can just walk around and sit wherever you please. In Nebelhorn in particular I would be more worried about the accomodation and how to get there... The location seems to be not easily accessible and the number of reasonable accomodations nearby seems very limited!

This ^

Event tickets should be no problem... just like I've never known Finlandia to sell out either, even when Hanyu was there...

If money is no object, I don't think there's any problem finding convenient accommodation either... but if you want "reasonable" prices, the nearby/convenient places are likely to go quickly (maybe already gone!)

I thought it was pretty easy to get there by train though? Aren't there direct trains from Munich airport?

It was troublesome when I went there a year ago - there were no direct trains from the airport, but I think that was because of "works" on the rails somewhere. So I had to change trains once, and there was a bus replacement service for the last few km. But even that wasn't too bad... and maybe the "works" are all long-finished now?
