Hi,

I'm thinking of buying balcony seats because I can't afford ice level tickets. Now my question is, does the practice session have allocated seats? Since it is probably the only chance for me to go to ice-level and watch the skaters up close. And is it possible to buy the practice session ticket on the venue, can they run out of practice session tickets?
Also, on the website they have the practice schedule but no time written, is it safe to assume that if I want to watch the ladies practices, I have to get the all day ticket since they are listed on the top?

Also I think some people have mentioned it before but I quite like the idea of meet-up plan for those who's going. I'm very new to the figure skating worlds and I really don't know anyone else around me who's into it as well so I would love to make new friends =D

I will almost certainly have a spare ticket for many practice sessions. I have all event tickets for myself and my daughter, and I doubt she will come to many, if any, of them. However, I haven't yet looked over schedules or talked to her etc. Our seats are good. If you want to PM me, you can.

I would be happy to have a group meet up. I would think Winnie and Pamigena would be great organizers of that!

I think it depends which country you're coming from, and therefore, how long the line might be at immigration. I'm sure the Finns are pretty organized, though. The other thing is awful weather, which could cause delays. I wouldn't want such a tight schedule coming from America, but from Europe, I would risk it.

Other activities beyond sightseeing - I'm looking forward to the saunas! I think there is one of those amazing indoor/outdoor scenarios with cold/hot stations somewhere nearby. I think they have an excellent outdoor market somewhere too. Also, the art deco swimming hall is supposed to be great. Sorry to be vague - that's where my planning has got to, but you can google those things.

Ah, it's nothing like a ballet or theater performance where you're only allowed to enter before the start or during breaks. You can always come and go as you please, enter and leave a dozen times a day, just be nice enough to wait until after a skater has finished his/her program (it's not only possibly distracting to the skater, but also to the audience).

I have never been at Hartwall Arena but I have been at European competitions so far and there was never a problem about it. If you go through the main entrance you'll possibly find yourself in a corridor, where you can watch the live broadcast of the competition, as there are usually displays/TVs on the corridors. The tribunes are separated by doors from the corridors, which are usually closed during a routine. But as soon as the program finishes you can enter the door and find your seat. At the doors there are volunteers so they can help you out.

just be nice enough to wait until after a skater has finished his/her program (it's not only possibly distracting to the skater, but also to the audience).

Some places will actually enforce this, at least for people going to their seats (can't really stop them leaving their seats!)

eg. At GP Final in Barcelona, the volunteers put chains across the entrances and stopped people entering while skaters were performing. Once the performance was finished, skaters were waiting for scores in the K&C etc, they let people through. And personally, I appreciated that.

Because on lippu.fi they sell tickets for "practices, morning" and "practices, evening", and I assumed that means you can buy tickets either for the morning or the evening session. But the ticket category thingy shows tickets on Monday and Tuesday for "all day" and "afternoon". Which would make sense, since those "practices, morning" tickets cost a lot more (I had been wondering about that).... so are those 25€ "practices, morning" tickets like day passes? :roll9: I'm getting really confused.

Well if you're from Norway, I'd say it won't be anything you can't handle

I guess it's hard to tell. At Finlandia this year, we had the same seats for the whole competition. On the first day I was almost too warm with only a T-Shirt and my jacket open, and on the third day I was freezing even with a T-Shirt, sweater and the jacket zipped up to my ears. It also depends on where you sit, how far away from the ice you are, how many people are there, ... The safest way to go is probably always to dress in layers.

But for what it's worth, according to their website:

During ice hockey matches, the temperature hovers at 17 degrees (63F) on the lower level / 19 degrees (66F) on the upper level.

Yes, if you buy all-event tickets for ice level 1, 2 and balcony 1, then you can go to the practices as well, except for the balcony 2 all-event tickets.

That's probably why I got confused. I have an all-event ticket, and (at least that's how I understand it) for Monday and Tuesday I got a ticket for "morning practices" and "evening practices". Why would I need 2 different tickets if the ticket for the morning practices is still valid in the afternoon? And why would they call it "practices morning" if it's supposed to be a day ticket? I would never have gotten that idea if it wasn't for that ticket category list on the website.

I have an electronic ticket and the individual tickets appear to be in the order of the competition schedule. Morning practices P1, Evening practices P2, Morning practices P3, Evening practices P4, Morning practices P5, Ladies SP, Opening & Pairs SP, Morning practices P6, ......

You can go now to airport by train too, from Pasila station which is almost beside Hartwall Areena. The railway to airport was opened summer 2015, so it was not there 2009.

I was hoping to see men's free, but the only category left is Balcony 2. Any idea if individual ice level seats might still become available? Or does anyone have ice level tickets they might want to sell? I already have tickets to ladies' free, the free dance and the gala.
