2017 Worlds Helsinki Info and Chat

OK, I'll be there, I'll wear a purple winter coat, I have brown hair and eyes (163 cm tall, female). Maybe I'll have the Finnish flag with me.

See you tomorrow at 4:30. I'll skate at Jaapuisto in the morning. It's meant to be a lovely day. Being in Helsinki and seeing the posters for the Worlds around I'm so upset I'm not going to be able to go. :( Helsinki is so nice. :) I'll wait next to the ice rink.

I am! In fact I'll be there next Friday night. Lol. Only 6 practice sessions for pairs. But thank goodness they get 4 in the main rink since the practice one has low ceiling.

I'm guessing that practice ticket holders will only have access to practices held in the Hartwall Arena? :sarcasm:

If you have all event Ice Level ticket, then the practice is included. Otherwise you need a separate ticket. Balcony tickets does not include practice.

When purchasing a practice ticket has anyone else received the following message "An error occurred during the transaction, please try again.
Please note! Check that the information you have provided is correct." I have double and triple checked that my information is correct and as such I am wondering if anyone else had this same issue and what was done to resolve it. Thanks!

Yes, that is correct:

NB.
Only the practice sessions in the "Hartwall" rink are accessible to ticket holders. There is no access to the sessions in the underground cave ("practice rink"), or at the Pirkkola rink.

(This is mentioned in the "first information" PDF on the ISU site: "Practice rinks are closed to the public due to lack of seating")

Yes, much better weather than yesterday. I'll come by tram then.

Did you check the opening hours...

Cool see you then. 11-9 I believe. It was open when I went for a walk last night around 7. See you soon! :)

I have bought practice tickets yesterday and had no problem with it. I checked every rows, and once a green tick appeared next to them, it was ok. Did you tick the box for agreeing the general terms and conditions? It's a bit easy to overlook.

Hey!

I’ve bought tickets to practices on 31.03 and 01.04 (P7 and P8, I think) under the impression that they would be Ladies’ (FS) and Men’s (FS) respectively, but nowwww I checked the practice times on the site, and it seems the second one is Ice Dance? Or will it be both? Is Men’s FS practice not available to the public or smth? I can see them in the coloured schedule from the site, in the middle of the day on Friday, but I don’t see those tickets on lippu. :/

ETA ahhh, omg, I somehow missed that there are Men's FS practices on Saturday morning, at about the same time as Ice Dance (I got confused by the page that just listed P8 as Ice Dance practice), but on Practice Rink and not the main rink. But will the practice tickets be valid for that?

I know what the problem is. After you choose your seat, there are 5 steps:
1. Shopping Cart
2. Address
3. Payment Type
4. Verification
5. Confirmation

Most of the time, the website will completely bypass step 4 for some freakin' reason. If you don't complete step 4, they'll give you that error message. Take a look at THIS. It'll explain better what the problem is. I don't know how to fix it honestly. Your best bet is to try different browsers until it loads properly. It didn't work on my computer (Chrome and Internet Explorer). I tried to use my iPhone in the past, which has Safari. That worked and I got the ticket. Today I wanted to buy another ticket, but somehow iPhone's Safari didn't load step 4 anymore. I had to use a Samsung phone with a random browser called Adblock Browser (downloaded from Play Store), and it finally worked. You just have to try million things until the website decides to grant you step 4 "Verification". It's so frustrating.

I'm with you on this waxel, of course! Thanks TT Fin for the suggestion and I'd be happy to help organise something, it's my first time in Helsinki though, so I don't know anywhere or what to expect and I'm also happy to take the suggestions of our Finnish friends. Myself and my friend will be in town from the evening of Sunday the 26th, so if anyone is interested in meeting up for dinner in the city that evening, let me know!

I've been hoping you'd turn up! Mrs P suggested you as organizer. I would really like to meet up on the 26th or 27th. I'm staying in the center, and will be happy to research restaurants if you tell me what kind you like. I will be with my teen daughter.

Great! I will be with my two friends, an Irish lady and an American gentleman. I'm open to suggestions as to where to eat, I have a particular love for sushi and Japanese food, but anywhere and everything is great. We're all staying in different locations, myself and my Irish friend are staying at locations nearer the arena and I think himself is staying in the city. I'd love to have had a bit more knowledge of the city to be able to organise more but I'm a scatterbrain at the best of times and would be lost with absolutely no prior knowledge of the location! Maybe after a bit of exploring on the Sunday, we'll be better positioned to see what might work best for later in the week...

My friend told me that this is good http://www.konnichiwa.fi/ ( I haven't been there myself). I could come, too, if you want to. There are some Italian style places, La Famiglia near Stockmann and Bravuria in Kamppi.. Or if you absolutely want to have something Finnish, I know a couple of places. Those 3 I mentioned are in the center.

La Famiglia is really nice

Hi Susan, I tried to send you msg but your inbox is full. Haha

How should I contact you in Helsinki btw? Are you planning on getting a SIM card for your phone while you're there?
I'm not sure how much Internet I have over there but I'm hoping the internet at the backpacker and the arena itself would have been enough and you can contact me through what's app, line or other social media instead of text but let me know what's the easiest way to contact you.

And I've only scanned quickly through the thread but are we having meet ups and ice skating session now?

I'm definitely up for both as I'm traveling alone and would love to get to know everyone too.

From facebook official account:
10 000 students conquer the Hartwall Arena during the World Figure Skating Chmpionships practice sessions. It´s going to be a great atmosphere. Skaters: are you ready for some noise? #helsinki2017 #worldfigure
Everyone, run, hide!!!!

So a few thousand excited kids with those paper clap thingies... well... kinda glad I always have a pair of ear plugs in my purse anyway (not even kidding, I really do)
