I think a visa to Russia is obligatory even these days. Tallinn is different as Estonia is part of the EU and the Schengen area, but for non-EU citizens different rules might apply. Check before making any reservations... It seems that the airport strikes are over for the time being and even the weather seems hopefully slightly springy for next week!
For Helsinki sightseeing, I personally would recommoned Suomenlinna (the fortress islands in front of Helsinki, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) for a visit on a good day: 20 min ferry ride from the Market Square (Kauppatori, part of the normal Helsinki public transportation ticket system). Beautiful views and a great late 18th century milieu, ok restaurants also available. Finland 100 year continues and at the Design museum a new exhibition opens on Saturday displaying one object for every year of the Finnish independence (Korkeavuorenkatu 52). Also, the new permanent exhibition on Finnish prehistory will open on Saturday April 1 at the National Museum (Mannerheimintie 34, right next to the Parliament). Also, apparently everybody (but NOT me!) loves the new Helsinki City Museum (Aleksanterinkatu 16), but it is worth a visit (I guess
) An exhibition of smells of Helsinki going on at the mo.
If you are not afraid of nudity and communal bathing, try the Kotiharju sauna at Kallio (Harjutorinkatu 1, open 2-8 pm Mon-Sat, 13 eur, you can rent a towel, buy a pefletti [seat cover] and drinks), it is the one of the few public saunas remining in Helsinki (the wood heated stove is just wonderful). Also, the baths at Yrjönkatu are great, especially if the 2nd floor is open (http://www.hel.fi/www/helsinki/en/culture/sports/indoor/swimming/yrjonkatu-swimming-hall).
It is funny to be travelling to my "home" competition as a tourist (I live abroad at the mo), but I will actually try and catch the new exhibitions and I'd love to make it to a proper Finnish sauna (but is is difficult with the comp schedule and all the other activities I have lined up so far).
At Salve, have the fried Baltic herrings and mashed potatoes! It's a classic! Cannot be there that day, but hope you all will have fun!

The times I listed in my message, I all manually adjusted by one hour. So now, the times do make a lot more sense. Alas, They are *all wrong* in my print TV guide. :-/
Hey, I misread your post, I didn't notice you talked about paper tv guide compared to website. Yeah, I think they just made a mistake in the print version, Polish Eurosport seems to be showing the events until the end allright, so the Dutch probably will too.

Not sure, I have a British passport and perhaps a daytrip in and out wouldnt require one but when I tried applying from London to go for a week the paperwork was horrendous. They want letters of sponsors and hotel booking references etc.

Edit: OK, so I googled "chewbacca coat" and it's not exactly what I thought it would look like, LOL. You shouldn't leave such things to our imaginations! (or am I the only one who never heard of a chewbacca coat before? It wouldn't surprise me LOL)

Yes... and I'm especially interested to know who is in the first one or two practice groups of each day.I'm hoping they post who is in what practice group soon. I need to plan my Monday and Tuesday practice viewing schedule!
I intend to start each day with a proper breakfast, and the earliest breakfast at my hotel is at 6:30am. Even if I rush to the arena right after breakfast, I'll still miss some of the first one or two groups each day...
6:30am breakfast would also require me to get out of bed by about 6:00am.
Which would be like 3:00am for me, given time zone differences, plus the clocks changing this Sunday.
And I am not good at 3:00am... -_-
I'm already trying to "acclimatise" by getting up super-early each day this week... But I'm hoping my favourites will be in practice groups 3 or 4 onwards - not just so I can get there in time, but also so I can have an extra hour or so of sleep! ^_^;
The days are going to be long...

Yikes....What a Nightmare. That's definitely more than we went through. Like I said, I was touring with Coca Cola at the time and though our entire cast did NOT go to Russia, those of us who chose to go, did not have to go through any of that. What most likely happened in my case was that we had filled out the required paperwork before we left the US. We had a HUGE packet of forms that we had to fill out before we left on tour. We all had to have physicals, dental checkups, eye and ear exams, and a copy of all vaccinations. We did have Visa's for Japan, Canada, Norway, Sweden and Finland because we had several performances in those Countries. We did not perform in Russia.
I personally, had already been to St Petersburg for a Ballet Convention through our dance studio when I was younger. Even then, I don't remember it being a problem but, I'm sure it was handled by the studio and the convention staff from Russia. What I can is, if you can make it happen, you should definitely go for it.

No, that would be much too logical. It's actually called the "Finlandia Trophy Espoo" app. I am not kidding. Although after installation, it does show as Helsinki2017. I hope they fix that little bug!
I am familiar with audience judging, we could participate at a GPF Barcelona gala, and in equestrian dressage competitions it's very common nowadays.
I wonder what they mean with the bluetooth extras, though?
